Thanks for joining me and tuning in

0:00:030:00:05

to our extended nightly weather forecast.

0:00:050:00:07

We'll have a look at the trends into next week and the weekend as well

0:00:070:00:11

and the prospects of some bad weather heading our way.

0:00:110:00:14

But first of all, let's talk about the here and now.

0:00:140:00:16

Wednesday wasn't a bad day across the country, at least for most of us.

0:00:160:00:19

We had some heavy showers, downpours in places,

0:00:190:00:21

for example in Newcastle and parts of Northern Ireland.

0:00:210:00:24

But as we head into Thursday, the relatively quiet weather continues,

0:00:240:00:28

with plenty of sunshine, a little on the hazy side,

0:00:280:00:30

and maybe the odd shower here and there,

0:00:300:00:33

but most of the showers shouldn't be too heavy

0:00:330:00:36

and there won't be too many of them.

0:00:360:00:37

Temperatures at best will get up to 25, we think, in the London area,

0:00:370:00:41

more like the high teens or nudging up to 20 in Glasgow and in Newcastle.

0:00:410:00:45

So, that's Thursday.

0:00:450:00:47

Things do change as we head into the last day of the working week.

0:00:470:00:51

For Friday, this area of low pressure swings out of the Bay of Biscay,

0:00:510:00:55

and the thinking is that Southern England,

0:00:550:00:57

the Southeast and East Anglia

0:00:570:00:59

are in for some pretty heavy rain, at least a spell of heavy rain.

0:00:590:01:03

Also, some heavy rain is heading in the direction of Northern Ireland,

0:01:030:01:06

but you'll see that there's this slither in the middle of the UK,

0:01:060:01:09

between this area of rain here and here,

0:01:090:01:12

where we're actually going to have plenty of bright weather

0:01:120:01:15

but also some showers,

0:01:150:01:16

so really the best way to describe it

0:01:160:01:18

is a messy day on Friday, very changeable, from sunshine to rain,

0:01:180:01:22

perhaps to sunshine again.

0:01:220:01:23

But be prepared for quite a few downpours.

0:01:230:01:25

And then, as we head into Saturday,

0:01:250:01:27

that area of low pressure is going to probably graze,

0:01:270:01:29

at least in the morning, Eastern parts of Scotland.

0:01:290:01:31

It could give gusty conditions and heavy rain.

0:01:310:01:34

But we're between weather systems,

0:01:340:01:35

so the weather's looking decent on Saturday, with some sunshine.

0:01:350:01:38

I suspect the best of the weather will be across more Eastern areas,

0:01:380:01:42

whereas in the West we'll catch a few showers.

0:01:420:01:44

And then, beyond that, that's when things become a bit more interesting.

0:01:440:01:48

So after some relatively quiet weather on Saturday,

0:01:480:01:52

all eyes are on the Atlantic.

0:01:520:01:54

Now, let me show you the satellite picture

0:01:540:01:56

of what's happening just off the Eastern seaboard of the US right now.

0:01:560:01:59

This is actually ex-tropical storm Bertha.

0:01:590:02:02

Or it used to be a hurricane. Ex-hurricane Bertha.

0:02:020:02:05

It is drifting very slowly in our direction.

0:02:050:02:08

There are two scenarios of how this, or the remnants of it, may affect us.

0:02:080:02:11

One track takes it sort of more into France, the Bay of Biscay

0:02:110:02:14

and into France, so the storm's a little bit further South.

0:02:140:02:17

Another track could take it more directly over the UK

0:02:170:02:20

by the time we get to Sunday.

0:02:200:02:21

So there are these two scenarios, and we're still not quite sure

0:02:210:02:24

which way this weather system is going to swing.

0:02:240:02:27

And actually it's not here,

0:02:270:02:28

it's the one down here,

0:02:280:02:30

strong winds, gale-force winds

0:02:300:02:31

and heavy rain spreading into the South of the country.

0:02:310:02:34

And this could be heavy rain, but, as I say, it may miss us,

0:02:340:02:37

it may go further South.

0:02:370:02:38

It could go further North, affecting more parts of the country.

0:02:380:02:42

And then by the time we get to Monday,

0:02:420:02:44

that poor weather will slip away

0:02:440:02:45

into either the near Continent or into the North Sea.

0:02:450:02:48

It really depends which way it goes.

0:02:480:02:50

And it does look as though things will tend to quieten down

0:02:500:02:53

by the time we get to Monday, with some sunshine.

0:02:530:02:55

But by this stage, the forecast is becoming a little bit uncertain.

0:02:550:02:59

So what do we think is going to happen from round about Tuesday?

0:02:590:03:02

Well, it does look as though low pressure's going to be

0:03:020:03:05

in charge of the weather across the Northern part of the country,

0:03:050:03:08

whereas high pressure will be to the South,

0:03:080:03:10

and that effectively translates to kind of a typical weather situation

0:03:100:03:13

that we get this time of the year in the summer.

0:03:130:03:16

Before that, we still have to get through that storm,

0:03:160:03:18

so there's a lot of uncertainty in that,

0:03:180:03:20

but it does look as though through that period

0:03:200:03:22

the driest weather will be in the South,

0:03:220:03:24

whereas in Scotland and Northern Ireland, it looks more showery.

0:03:240:03:28

But stay tuned to our forecasts. That's the latest.

0:03:280:03:30

I've never ever, ever done gymnastics at all.

0:03:330:03:35

If their hands aren't bleeding,

0:03:350:03:37

they haven't trained hard enough. Crazy hard.
