At this time of day, we tend to dip our toe in the water

0:00:030:00:06

a little further ahead,

0:00:060:00:07

look at what's going to happen over the next ten days

0:00:070:00:09

and the trends that could affect us across the British Isles.

0:00:090:00:12

More on that in just a moment, but for the here and now,

0:00:120:00:15

it looks as though we're going to see this little fella here

0:00:150:00:17

enhancing some showers on Thursday

0:00:170:00:19

across the bulk of Wales and Southern England.

0:00:190:00:23

The day will start off relatively quiet,

0:00:230:00:25

but already you can see those showers gathering across North Wales

0:00:250:00:28

and into the Southwest.

0:00:280:00:29

With lighter winds in recent days,

0:00:290:00:31

that means if you catch a shower, they could be pretty slow-moving

0:00:310:00:34

with rumbles of thunder and hail mixed in there as well.

0:00:340:00:37

At the same time, though, as with the nature of showers,

0:00:370:00:40

you may escape them altogether,

0:00:400:00:41

and with the lighter winds, if you keep the sunshine,

0:00:410:00:43

it'll feel reasonably pleasant.

0:00:430:00:45

So, not a bad afternoon in prospect across the bulk of Cornwall.

0:00:450:00:48

Sharp showers likely to continue across South Wales

0:00:480:00:52

and for Southern England some of them heavy with rumbles of thunder.

0:00:520:00:55

Top temperatures possibly 18 to 20 degrees.

0:00:550:00:58

A few showers through the Midlands, to the North of England,

0:00:580:01:01

and Northern Ireland and for the bulk of Scotland,

0:01:010:01:03

not as many showers as we've seen in recent days.

0:01:030:01:05

Could be one or two potent ones, perhaps,

0:01:050:01:07

close to the Scottish Borders into the afternoon.

0:01:070:01:10

But, again, lighter winds.

0:01:100:01:11

Now, as we run through Thursday,

0:01:110:01:13

some of those showers will start to ease from the West.

0:01:130:01:16

We still keep a few dotted around those North Sea coasts for a time,

0:01:160:01:19

but we do have a ridge of high pressure building,

0:01:190:01:22

and that'll quieten things down quite nicely.

0:01:220:01:25

Overnight lows of 11 to 13 degrees, so again,

0:01:250:01:28

a more comfortable night for sleeping.

0:01:280:01:30

That ridge of high pressure, then, starts to push in from the West.

0:01:300:01:33

That's going to quieten things down considerably.

0:01:330:01:36

Fewer showers around on Friday,

0:01:360:01:37

perhaps Friday the best day of the week.

0:01:370:01:41

So, dry, sunny, pleasant enough.

0:01:410:01:43

There is still the potential, though, for a level of uncertainty,

0:01:430:01:47

with a few showers across the Pennines

0:01:470:01:50

stretching down into the Midlands and perhaps to the West of London.

0:01:500:01:53

These should be fairly isolated, but if they occur,

0:01:530:01:55

they could be heavy and possibly thundery.

0:01:550:01:58

Top temperatures of 15 to 22 degrees, that's 72 Fahrenheit.

0:01:580:02:02

As we move through to Saturday,

0:02:020:02:04

an area of low pressure up into the North

0:02:040:02:06

just increases the wind strength

0:02:060:02:08

and the potential for some more wet weather to the North and West

0:02:080:02:11

so, again, we're back to a pretty blustery westerly wind

0:02:110:02:14

and plenty of sharp showers curling into the Northwest.

0:02:140:02:17

Eventually, more cloud across Western areas, but a relatively dry day,

0:02:170:02:21

with the best of the sunshine into Eastern areas.

0:02:210:02:23

A different story by Sunday, though.

0:02:230:02:25

We're being attacked both by the North and the South

0:02:250:02:28

with an area of low pressure moving into Southern Britain

0:02:280:02:31

and that will bring a pulse of particularly wet weather,

0:02:310:02:34

particularly in the Southeast not looking very pleasant.

0:02:340:02:36

It stays pretty windy,

0:02:360:02:38

with showers or longer spells of rain throughout the day on Sunday.

0:02:380:02:41

Temperatures 15 to 22 degrees.

0:02:410:02:43

Now, that area of low pressure sent it off towards the North Sea.

0:02:430:02:47

You can see the isobars squeezing around the low.

0:02:470:02:49

The winds will always remain a feature on Monday,

0:02:490:02:52

and still from a northerly direction,

0:02:520:02:54

so despite the shower activity easing somewhat,

0:02:540:02:57

it'll still feel quite cool on exposed northerly coasts,

0:02:570:03:00

perhaps, again, highest values of 21 Celsius.

0:03:000:03:03

What's in store from Tuesday into Friday?

0:03:030:03:06

And, of course, Friday the 22nd, the start of the bank holiday,

0:03:060:03:09

the final bank holiday across England and Wales.

0:03:090:03:12

We keep the low pressure to the North, with northwesterly winds,

0:03:120:03:15

but there are indications that this high pressure

0:03:150:03:17

may just drift into the South,

0:03:170:03:19

but there's still a great deal of uncertainty about that

0:03:190:03:22

for the end of the week.

0:03:220:03:23

So, showers, feeling cooler,

0:03:230:03:25

hopefully less unsettled to the South

0:03:250:03:27

as we move towards the bank holiday weekend.
