Hello. We're going to see some changes with our weather patterns | 0:00:03 | 0:00:06
in the longer term, which means particularly as we go | 0:00:06 | 0:00:09
into the early part of next week, it won't be as cold at night. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
At the moment, it is unusually cold out there. | 0:00:12 | 0:00:15
That's because we've got this weather set-up. | 0:00:15 | 0:00:17
Big area of high pressure to the West, | 0:00:17 | 0:00:19
large area of low pressure across Scandinavia. | 0:00:19 | 0:00:22
Around that low, the winds are coming down from the North. | 0:00:22 | 0:00:25
First thing in the morning, | 0:00:25 | 0:00:26
we'll be widely, in rural areas, | 0:00:26 | 0:00:27
down to just four or five degrees. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:29
But there is a bit of strength still in the sunshine | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
and most of us will start Wednesday | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
with some blue sky. | 0:00:33 | 0:00:34
It'll be another day of sunny spells and scattered showers. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
At first, the showers across Wales and Southwest England | 0:00:37 | 0:00:40
becoming more widespread through the afternoon, | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
but they will be scattered | 0:00:42 | 0:00:43
and many places will avoid them. | 0:00:43 | 0:00:45
In the sunny spells, temperatures struggling. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
15 to 16 degrees, maybe 19 or 20 | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
in the Southeast. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
Tomorrow evening, showers fade in the South. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
More persistent rain is set to arrive | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
across Western parts of Scotland | 0:00:55 | 0:00:56
and that will continue to trickle South | 0:00:56 | 0:00:58
across much of Southern Scotland | 0:00:58 | 0:01:00
and parts of Northern Ireland by dawn. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:02
With more cloud here, it won't be as cold. | 0:01:02 | 0:01:04
Further South, again, towns and cities | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
may stay in double figures, | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
but in rural areas across Southern and Eastern England, | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
we could again be as low as just | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
four or five degrees. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:13
High pressure tries to hold on in the South on Thursday | 0:01:13 | 0:01:16
but this little weather front | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
continues to push Southwards, | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
bringing outbreaks of showery rain | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
across Southern Scotland | 0:01:22 | 0:01:23
and slowly into Northern England. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
Looks like the winds have changed direction, | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
coming from the West on Thursday, | 0:01:27 | 0:01:28
but you can follow them round. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
Where they originally come from is still the North, | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
so it's still going to feel fresh. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:34
Again, temperatures below average | 0:01:34 | 0:01:36
at just 14 or 15 degrees. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:37
Some sunny spells in the Southeast | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
may see highs of 18 or 19. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
That little weather feature tries to pull away on Friday. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:44
A cold front dragging its heels at first | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
across the Southeast | 0:01:46 | 0:01:48
could provide some outbreaks of rain. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
For most, | 0:01:50 | 0:01:51
another day of sunny spells and showers. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
But again, the winds are coming down from the North and so those | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
temperatures again are going to be below average - | 0:01:56 | 0:01:58
15 or 16 degrees. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:00
Cold start to the weekend. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:01
Still a few showers across parts of the East. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:03
But actually, for most, | 0:02:03 | 0:02:05
Saturday looks dry and bright with lighter winds. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:09
Once we get a bit of sunshine, | 0:02:09 | 0:02:10
those temperatures will start to climb. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
The start of the weekend looks pretty good. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
High pressure moving in across the UK. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
There is this low trying to push in, | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
but it looks like it is going to take | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
quite a while before that comes in across Western areas during Sunday. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
And for the majority, | 0:02:23 | 0:02:24
Sunday will feel a little bit warmer | 0:02:24 | 0:02:26
and it is dry and bright again. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
So we are going to see subtle changes. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:30
At the moment, in the next few days, | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
the jet stream's fairly weak. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
It's that fast-moving air high up in the atmosphere. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
It's to the South of the UK, | 0:02:37 | 0:02:38
allowing the chilly air across the country | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
and that mixture of sunshine and showers. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:43
As we go towards the weekend, the early part of next week, | 0:02:43 | 0:02:46
the jet stream looks like picking up in force, becoming more zonal, | 0:02:46 | 0:02:49
more in from the West. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:51
And when this happens, | 0:02:51 | 0:02:52
it tends to drag in areas of low pressure from the Atlantic. | 0:02:52 | 0:02:56
Might not be in exactly this position, | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
but with it coming in from the West, | 0:02:58 | 0:02:59
it is more likely to bring | 0:02:59 | 0:03:00
low pressure systems | 0:03:00 | 0:03:02
across or to the North of the UK. | 0:03:02 | 0:03:04
So the winds will switch from a Northerly | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
to a more Westerly direction. | 0:03:06 | 0:03:07
If this high pressure is a little bit further North, though, | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
we could actually see some | 0:03:10 | 0:03:11
slightly warmer conditions, | 0:03:11 | 0:03:12
particularly across the Southeast. | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
But with low pressure nearby, that means we will often see | 0:03:14 | 0:03:17
showers across the country for the early part of next week. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
Often quite windy, but it won't be as cold as it is right now, | 0:03:19 | 0:03:24
certainly not through the course of the night. That's all from me. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:28
Always plenty more available online. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30 |
