22/09/2014 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello. Our weekend has come to a very quiet close weather wise.

Thanks to high pressure across the British Isles.

It will stay with us to get the new week under way but as the days go by

we will start to see weather systems

trying to work their way in from the Northwest.

With clear skies through the early part of the week though

cooler nights than we've been used to.

And by the end of the week turning more unsettled.

It will mean more cloud around and those temperatures returning

closer to average.

Here we are currently under high pressure and that means wide

expanses of clear sky as we move into the small hours of Monday.

And it means a chilly start to the new week.

Towns and cities, overnight lows of 10 or 11.

Rural areas waking up to a risk of grass frost as temperatures

dip into low single figures.

A risk of a few patches of early mist and fog

but because of the high pressure we're going to have a

lot of sunshine and that should burn it off pretty quickly.

I think we'll see some cloud

gathering across eastern areas on Monday.

Rather as we did on Sunday.

And then a weather front will try to push through the high on Monday

bringing some thicker cloud and outbreaks of rain which will

turn heavier across Northwest Scotland come the evening.

This front will try and work its way further south for Tuesday.

Still the high pressure sitting to the south of the British Isles.

And still a lot of fair weather around on the whole.

But this front could bring heavier rain for a time on Tuesday

into parts of Northern England and North Wales.

Following on behind some brighter skies for Scotland

but a risk of a few showers.

A bit of cloud further South but should be pretty warm actually.

Highs of 19 or 20.

Tuesday into Wednesday our weather front tries to slide

away to the South of the British Isles.

Looks like the showers across Scotland will merge with it.

Through Wednesday there's a possibility we will be left

with lingering cloud across the Southern half of the British Isles.

And a risk of showers, particularly in the South later.

Brighter skies for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

A chance of a few showers in the Northwest.

Thursday a largely cloudy day. But a pretty mild one nonetheless.

Best of any sunshine will be in sheltered Eastern parts.

Breezier story across Western Scotland with some more

persistent rain around.

Where the sun does pop out in Eastern England

we could see highs of 20 or 21.

For Friday a pretty similar picture.

Still the high governing the weather for much of the British Isles.

A lot of cloud around. Best of any sunshine in Eastern areas.

A front trying to graze into Scotland.

Perhaps bringing some windier weather here and some more persistent rain.

Further South a mild if not warm story. Temperatures up to 20 or 21

where we get any brightness.

That picture with the high to the South of the British Isles

and the low to the Northwest looks set to continue.

Even as we go further out into our 10 day period.

So a lot of fine weather the further South and East you are.

But towards the Northwest there will be that

tendency for outbreaks of rain.

At times it could be quite windy, as well.

In terms of temperatures,

around average generally for the time of year.

The biggest change though will be with more cloud around after

some chilly nights to get this week under way.

We're talking about milder nights

under the cloud once again.
