Hello. After a largely dry and very mild day on Thursday,

0:00:040:00:06

as we head towards the end of this working week,

0:00:060:00:08

things are turning colder with the arrival of plenty of rain.

0:00:080:00:11

We've got an active cold front on Friday, initially across

0:00:110:00:14

Northern Ireland and Scotland with some squally winds and heavy rain.

0:00:140:00:17

That will edge its way southwards and eastwards as we head through the day.

0:00:170:00:21

Towards the south and east of the country we'll stick with

0:00:210:00:24

the mild and mainly dry theme, but if we look around the country,

0:00:240:00:29

and squally winds across parts of the south-west of England and Wales.

0:00:290:00:32

Through the Midlands, into eastern parts of England,

0:00:320:00:34

there could be some brightness around and temperatures up to 12 degrees,

0:00:340:00:38

relatively mild, but Northern England, that's where we'll see

0:00:380:00:41

heavy outbreaks of rain, some squally winds too.

0:00:410:00:43

For Northern Ireland and Scotland, after the morning's rain,

0:00:430:00:46

by the afternoon things will brighten up, some showers around

0:00:460:00:49

and some of those showers pretty wintry

0:00:490:00:50

across parts of Scotland in particular

0:00:500:00:52

and it is turning much colder behind that active cold front.

0:00:520:00:56

That pushes out of the way,

0:00:560:00:57

so the rain and wind pushing out of eastern parts of England

0:00:570:01:00

through the early hours of Saturday, then we're looking at drier

0:01:000:01:03

and clearer conditions, but wintry showers across Scotland,

0:01:030:01:06

down to lower levels as we head through the early hours of Saturday.

0:01:060:01:09

So, things are looking pretty unsettled through the weekend

0:01:090:01:12

and that's because we have a strong jet stream,

0:01:120:01:14

the winds at upper levels pushing west to east across the Atlantic,

0:01:140:01:18

so a fairly straight line, the jet stream at the moment,

0:01:180:01:21

and that will drive successive weather fronts across the country,

0:01:210:01:24

so tight isobars as we move through into the first part of the weekend

0:01:240:01:27

and the arrival of these frontal systems,

0:01:270:01:29

so eastern areas on Saturday likely to start off dry,

0:01:290:01:32

but rain and hill snow pushing across much of the country west to east

0:01:320:01:36

as we head through the course of the day.

0:01:360:01:37

It will be falling mainly as rain across the bulk of the country

0:01:370:01:41

but the hills of Scotland seeing some significant snowfall.

0:01:410:01:43

Temperature-wise, around about 5-10 Celsius

0:01:430:01:46

but certainly feeling a bit colder than that in those strong winds.

0:01:460:01:50

Into the second half of the weekend,

0:01:500:01:51

the unsettled theme certainly sticking around -

0:01:510:01:54

windy, as you can see, with tight isobars.

0:01:540:01:56

The next area of low pressure approaches on Sunday

0:01:560:01:58

but it's likely that will be further north,

0:01:580:02:00

so it will be north-western parts of the country seeing the bulk

0:02:000:02:03

of the wet weather during Sunday. Further south and east, a drier story

0:02:030:02:06

and a little milder with temperatures up to around 13 degrees in London.

0:02:060:02:10

Looking ahead, very strong winds for a time across parts of Scotland

0:02:100:02:13

as that low pressure clears away towards the north and the east, then

0:02:130:02:16

we have these trailing weather fronts heading back across the Atlantic,

0:02:160:02:19

so through the day on Monday it looks like we'll have

0:02:190:02:22

a spell of very heavy rain for a time through some central parts of the UK.

0:02:220:02:25

To the south of that, things are looking mild,

0:02:250:02:27

chillier air in charge further north.

0:02:270:02:30

So, a similar story as we now move through Monday and into Tuesday,

0:02:300:02:33

the next frontal system approaching from the Atlantic,

0:02:330:02:36

a deepening area of low pressure here.

0:02:360:02:37

To the north of that, with a ridge of high pressure,

0:02:370:02:40

dry and chilly for the north of Scotland

0:02:400:02:42

but this rain further south moving north through the day.

0:02:420:02:44

There could be a period of hill snow again through the course of Tuesday

0:02:440:02:48

but milder conditions pushing in from the south-west.

0:02:480:02:50

Then as we head through early December,

0:02:500:02:52

so the middle to the end of next week,

0:02:520:02:54

it looks like we'll start to see the jet stream becoming more buckled,

0:02:540:02:57

and as it buckles it will lose a little bit of its intensity

0:02:570:03:00

and speed, so things will look less unsettled, I think,

0:03:000:03:04

as we head through early December.

0:03:040:03:05

Still some low pressure around, mainly to the north of the UK,

0:03:050:03:08

but a hint now that we will start to see high pressure just nudging in

0:03:080:03:12

from the south to take charge of our weather for some southern parts

0:03:120:03:16

as we head through the first part of December.

0:03:160:03:18

So still some spells of rain and breezy conditions,

0:03:180:03:20

particularly towards the north-west of the country.

0:03:200:03:23

It does look like some drier conditions are likely

0:03:230:03:25

towards the south and east with a chance of some patchy frost.

0:03:250:03:28

Lots happening. Keep tuned to your latest forecast. Bye-bye.
