We've got just about ten days left of 2015

0:00:030:00:07

and we will have a look at the weather trends

0:00:070:00:10

right up to New Year's Eve.

0:00:100:00:11

The short-term, there really is very little change.

0:00:110:00:15

We keep seeing this weather pattern across the Atlantic.

0:00:150:00:18

An area of low pressure across the North Atlantic here

0:00:180:00:21

spinning around, drawing in moisture all the way from the southern climes

0:00:210:00:24

so the air is coming all the way from down here

0:00:240:00:27

moving across the Azores heading in our direction.

0:00:270:00:30

With the southerly winds on Tuesday,

0:00:300:00:31

again it is going to be a very mild day across the south of the country.

0:00:310:00:35

A little bit fresher across Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:00:350:00:39

but, relatively speaking, not all that cold for this time of year -

0:00:390:00:43

7 degrees in Inverness, 9 for Glasgow.

0:00:430:00:45

These are the sort of temperatures by day

0:00:450:00:47

we should be having across the south of the country.

0:00:470:00:49

Some rain middle of the afternoon across parts of northern

0:00:490:00:52

England, Wales, down into the south-west.

0:00:520:00:54

Look at all of this mild weather in the south-east

0:00:540:00:57

and right across the Midlands, in fact.

0:00:570:00:59

14 degrees for Northampton, 14 for Bournemouth.

0:00:590:01:01

I think it is going to feel a little bit cooler

0:01:010:01:04

because there will be quite a strong wind blowing.

0:01:040:01:06

In fact, gale force winds around some of these coasts.

0:01:060:01:08

We will see a set of weather fronts crossing

0:01:080:01:10

the country during the course of Tuesday night into Wednesday.

0:01:100:01:14

Wednesday early hours, there will be some showers around,

0:01:140:01:16

but first thing in the morning on Wednesday,

0:01:160:01:18

and through the afternoon a window of opportunity.

0:01:180:01:20

We've got some fine weather about,

0:01:200:01:22

bar the odd shower, it's actually going to be

0:01:220:01:24

a fine day and quite crisp in Scotland for a change.

0:01:240:01:27

Temperatures back down to around 5 degrees with some sunshine.

0:01:270:01:30

So it could actually be quite frosty first thing in the morning.

0:01:300:01:33

Christmas Eve, a band of rain crossing the country,

0:01:330:01:35

strong winds as well.

0:01:350:01:37

There will be some sunshine about, I think quite a changeable day

0:01:370:01:40

and if there will be any snow Christmas Eve into

0:01:400:01:44

Christmas Day, it may be across the far north of the UK.

0:01:440:01:48

Now let's see what happens in the run-up to Christmas.

0:01:480:01:51

This area of low pressure still Christmas Eve,

0:01:510:01:53

is fast approaching the UK, but with the area of low pressure,

0:01:530:01:56

we get a bulge of warmth and moisture heading our way.

0:01:560:01:59

Look at this wave of moisture approaching the country,

0:01:590:02:02

so you can imagine it's going to turn milder through Christmas Day,

0:02:020:02:05

but notice that mild air doesn't

0:02:050:02:07

quite reach the far north of Scotland.

0:02:070:02:09

So, across the bulk of the UK, probably some rain around,

0:02:090:02:12

wind, maybe a bit of dry weather.

0:02:120:02:14

But in the far north there, in the Highlands,

0:02:140:02:16

maybe some snow first thing in the morning on Christmas Day.

0:02:160:02:19

But very quickly this mild air is going to reach the north of Scotland.

0:02:190:02:23

That means that Boxing Day it is mild right across the board,

0:02:230:02:26

there will be some sunshine around in the morning,

0:02:260:02:28

particularly across eastern areas, but here is the wind,

0:02:280:02:31

the rain and the weather fronts once more.

0:02:310:02:33

13 degrees across the south, in the north of the UK around about

0:02:330:02:36

6 degrees there for Lowick, Shetland and Aberdeen.

0:02:360:02:39

The pattern is not expected to change through Sunday -

0:02:390:02:42

southerly winds, mild air, there's some rain around Scotland

0:02:420:02:45

and some of these western areas here.

0:02:450:02:47

Then as we had into early next week, again we keep getting these

0:02:470:02:51

bulges of mild air, but look at this mild air reaching way far north here.

0:02:510:02:54

If you want any cold weather and snow you have to head to Finland,

0:02:540:02:57

this is where the chilly air is sitting.

0:02:570:02:59

But for the bulk of the UK, and across Europe,

0:02:590:03:01

it's staying very mild this Christmas.

0:03:010:03:03

The weather pattern is not expected to change end of the month.

0:03:030:03:06

For us to get any cold weather, this jet stream would have to be way

0:03:060:03:10

towards the south,

0:03:100:03:11

instead it is right over us, that means wind and rain.

0:03:110:03:13

Actually, a little bit too early to say

0:03:130:03:15

what weather we will get on New Year's Eve itself,

0:03:150:03:18

but the trend for the weather to stay relatively mild,

0:03:180:03:22

quite windy and be prepared for some rain.

0:03:220:03:24

Hopefully it won't be a washout,

0:03:240:03:26

it certainly doesn't look like it's going to be cold.

0:03:260:03:28

That's it, thanks for watching.

There once was a sprout with love to give
