We've seen a real range of weather over the past week or so.

0:00:030:00:05

This week started off on a wintry note,

0:00:050:00:07

turned wet and windy through the middle of the week

0:00:070:00:09

and now we're ending on a much quieter spell.

0:00:090:00:12

So through the weekend, it's looking dry for most places,

0:00:120:00:14

not everywhere. Some sunshine on offer.

0:00:140:00:17

Rain, at times, in the north-west

0:00:170:00:18

but that will ease through the second half of the weekend.

0:00:180:00:21

And the rain we'll see

0:00:210:00:22

across parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland

0:00:220:00:24

is courtesy of this weather front

0:00:240:00:25

heading in towards the north-west.

0:00:250:00:27

High-pressure out to the east of the UK

0:00:270:00:29

dominates the weather,

0:00:290:00:30

particularly across much of England and Wales.

0:00:300:00:33

Through the day on Saturday,

0:00:330:00:34

we start off with some mist and fog patches,

0:00:340:00:36

particularly for central and eastern areas.

0:00:360:00:38

Gradually lifting and clearing through the morning.

0:00:380:00:40

Patchy rain for Northern Ireland,

0:00:400:00:42

clearing up through the afternoon,

0:00:420:00:44

but the rain in the west of Scotland could be heavy,

0:00:440:00:46

particularly over the hills. 50mm or so possible here.

0:00:460:00:49

Fairly cloudy at times

0:00:490:00:50

across much of northern England and North Wales, too,

0:00:500:00:52

but further south,

0:00:520:00:53

plenty of sunny spells through Saturday afternoon

0:00:530:00:55

across parts of southern and eastern Wales,

0:00:550:00:58

central and eastern England.

0:00:580:00:59

But after the morning's mist and fog,

0:00:590:01:01

some cloud just lingering on into the afternoon.

0:01:010:01:04

Through Saturday night into Sunday,

0:01:040:01:06

this weather front that delivered patchy rain

0:01:060:01:08

for Northern Ireland and Scotland

0:01:080:01:10

will push its way further north,

0:01:100:01:11

taking those spells of rain with it.

0:01:110:01:13

Things drying out through Sunday across the country.

0:01:130:01:16

Again, likely to see some frost and fogginess

0:01:160:01:18

first thing in the morning. Should clear away.

0:01:180:01:20

And then for the vast majority of places,

0:01:200:01:22

things are looking dry on Sunday.

0:01:220:01:23

Temperatures could reach around 13 degrees

0:01:230:01:26

for the likes of Belfast.

0:01:260:01:27

Always a little bit cooler, still single figures,

0:01:270:01:29

towards part of East Anglia and the south-east.

0:01:290:01:32

That's because we are drawing in an easterly breeze,

0:01:320:01:35

moving its way around the south of this area of high pressure.

0:01:350:01:38

But no great changes as we head into the new working week.

0:01:380:01:41

For Monday, again, light winds across much of the country.

0:01:410:01:44

As you can see, things are looking generally dry.

0:01:440:01:47

Variable amounts of cloud.

0:01:470:01:48

Where we see breaks in that cloud, in the shelter,

0:01:480:01:50

we could see temperatures up to around 14 Celsius.

0:01:500:01:53

But things are always cooler where you're exposed to that breeze.

0:01:530:01:56

Perhaps the cloud taking its time

0:01:560:01:57

to thin and break in the south, at times.

0:01:570:01:59

A fairly cool breeze just running along

0:01:590:02:01

to the south of this area of high pressure.

0:02:010:02:03

Taking the edge off the temperatures,

0:02:030:02:05

for some southern and eastern areas.

0:02:050:02:07

But during the day on Tuesday, again,

0:02:070:02:09

no great changes, that high pressure still in charge.

0:02:090:02:11

Things are looking dry across much of the country.

0:02:110:02:13

There'll be some sunshine, especially towards the north-west.

0:02:130:02:17

A similar picture once again on Wednesday.

0:02:170:02:19

Could be a bit chilly,

0:02:190:02:21

with some fog patches around first thing, sunny spells.

0:02:210:02:24

Looking dry and temperatures just about nudging double figures

0:02:240:02:27

but feeling cooler in the east.

0:02:270:02:29

Late next week, high pressure, you've got it,

0:02:290:02:32

stays in charge once again.

0:02:320:02:33

Drifts a little bit further northwards.

0:02:330:02:35

This area of high pressure will be particularly large,

0:02:350:02:38

covering a range of latitude.

0:02:380:02:39

So the development of this large area of high pressure

0:02:390:02:42

will lead to something we call an Omega block,

0:02:420:02:44

a blocking pattern in the weather.

0:02:440:02:45

Typically, the jetstream,

0:02:450:02:47

at this latitude in the northern hemisphere,

0:02:470:02:49

runs from west to east.

0:02:490:02:50

There'll be ridges and troughs in this jetstream

0:02:500:02:52

typically delivering areas of low pressure

0:02:520:02:54

and high pressure at times across the UK.

0:02:540:02:56

But what we are seeing in this coming week

0:02:560:02:58

is something called an Omega block.

0:02:580:03:00

A large area of high pressure developing across the country,

0:03:000:03:03

large enough to divert the jetstream towards the north,

0:03:030:03:07

and that will then plunge around the area of high-pressure further south.

0:03:070:03:10

So low-pressure heading towards the Mediterranean.

0:03:100:03:12

Could be quite unsettled here.

0:03:120:03:14

But for the UK, predominantly dry.

0:03:140:03:16

Called an Omega block, of course,

0:03:160:03:18

the jetstream resembles the Greek letter Omega.

0:03:180:03:20

So later next week,

0:03:200:03:21

things are looking predominantly dry.

0:03:210:03:23

Variable amounts of cloud. Some sunshine at times.

0:03:230:03:26

Also a fairly chilly breeze in the south.

0:03:260:03:28

We'll keep you up-to-date right here.
