We're still expecting major changes in the weather pattern

0:00:020:00:04

across the UK by the end of this week,

0:00:040:00:07

just in time for the Easter weekend.

0:00:070:00:08

Changes are due to changes in the jet stream.

0:00:080:00:11

For a long time now, we've had high pressure close to our shores.

0:00:110:00:14

That's been anchored by a weak jet stream

0:00:140:00:16

that's been tending to dive north-south,

0:00:160:00:20

and that undulating pattern has carried on across the Atlantic.

0:00:200:00:25

we've got a much stronger and more powerful jet stream

0:00:250:00:28

that's running from west to east,

0:00:280:00:30

and that will drive its way across the Atlantic,

0:00:300:00:33

pushing away high pressure

0:00:330:00:34

and, instead, picking up areas of low pressure,

0:00:340:00:37

spinning them to our shores,

0:00:370:00:38

bringing a very different look and feel to the weather

0:00:380:00:41

by the end of the week.

0:00:410:00:42

At the moment, things are fairly quiet still.

0:00:420:00:44

It's all about cloud and sunshine. Chilly start for England and Wales.

0:00:440:00:47

Some sunshine in the morning across South Wales, South Midlands,

0:00:470:00:50

and also for southern England.

0:00:500:00:52

But cloud is slowly spilling its way southwards.

0:00:520:00:54

It should break up for northern England and eastern Scotland,

0:00:540:00:57

but a lot of cloud for Monday.

0:00:570:00:58

For western Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:00:580:01:01

maybe a bit damp and drizzly.

0:01:010:01:02

Temperatures still in the range 8 to 12 degrees.

0:01:020:01:05

Monday evening, Monday night, there'll be a lot of cloud around,

0:01:050:01:09

so it won't be as cold for England and Wales.

0:01:090:01:11

The cloud across the western side of the UK could be thick enough

0:01:110:01:14

to give us a few spits and spots of rain or drizzle.

0:01:140:01:17

These are the temperatures in the towns and cities.

0:01:170:01:19

Because of the cloud, I think in the countryside

0:01:190:01:21

we'll escape a frost as well.

0:01:210:01:23

This is Tuesday's chart.

0:01:230:01:24

We've still got high pressure with us,

0:01:240:01:26

but this could be the last day of high pressure for a while.

0:01:260:01:29

Underneath that high pressure,

0:01:290:01:31

there'll be a lot of cloud around on Tuesday.

0:01:310:01:33

In the western side of the UK,

0:01:330:01:34

it'll be thick enough to give a little light rain or drizzle,

0:01:340:01:37

chiefly western Scotland, Northern Ireland.

0:01:370:01:39

Further east, eastern Scotland, eastern England,

0:01:390:01:41

this is where we've got the best chance of seeing

0:01:410:01:43

any prolonged breaks in the cloud, and some sunshine.

0:01:430:01:46

Those temperatures are very similar

0:01:460:01:48

to where they've been for the past few days.

0:01:480:01:50

Things start to change later Tuesday and into Wednesday.

0:01:500:01:53

The high pressure recedes

0:01:530:01:55

and we've got low pressure coming in from the Atlantic.

0:01:550:01:57

This weather front is going to be driven our way as well.

0:01:570:02:00

But it's a very weak weather front. There's not much rain on it at all.

0:02:000:02:03

What there is on it

0:02:030:02:04

will tend to push across Northern Ireland, into Scotland.

0:02:040:02:06

A few drip and drabs around the Irish Sea coast, perhaps.

0:02:060:02:09

But for many, southern and eastern areas of the UK, it'll be dry.

0:02:090:02:12

Some sunshine, especially in the south-east of England.

0:02:120:02:14

Blustery showers for Northern Ireland.

0:02:140:02:16

That weather front, what there is of it, clears through.

0:02:160:02:19

The next one that comes in, it looks a little bit more substantial.

0:02:190:02:22

There's more isobars, it'll be a windier day on Thursday.

0:02:220:02:25

And there may be a bit more rain around as well,

0:02:250:02:28

particularly Northern Ireland, western Scotland,

0:02:280:02:30

and some rain or drizzle for the western side of England and Wales.

0:02:300:02:33

Head further east and it's still likely to be dry during the day,

0:02:330:02:37

albeit rather cloudy.

0:02:370:02:38

Now, notice by this stage

0:02:380:02:40

everything is coming in from the Atlantic.

0:02:400:02:42

We have some uncertainty as we move into Good Friday.

0:02:420:02:45

This weather front just hanging on in the south-east of England,

0:02:450:02:49

and it may just keep a bit of rain going in the south-east

0:02:490:02:52

through Good Friday.

0:02:520:02:54

But away from here, a lot of dry weather.

0:02:540:02:56

Some sunshine, a usable day for Good Friday,

0:02:560:02:58

before wet and windy weather returns to the north-west

0:02:580:03:01

by the end of the day.

0:03:010:03:03

A reminder as we head into the Easter weekend.

0:03:030:03:05

Stronger jet stream,

0:03:050:03:06

we're going to push low pressure to the north of the UK.

0:03:060:03:09

The winds fluctuating from south-westerly to north-westerly.

0:03:090:03:12

What does it mean?

0:03:120:03:13

It means it's going to be much more unsettled, much more changeable.

0:03:130:03:16

The winds will be stronger as well.

0:03:160:03:18

That means they'll blow in some rain at times,

0:03:180:03:20

but there'll be some spells of sunshine, too.

0:03:200:03:23

So it's not going to be a wash-out over the weekend,

0:03:230:03:25

but it looks very different from what we've seen for some time now.

0:03:250:03:28

Alan, wake up - you're deflating! I'm awake.

0:03:310:03:34

I can't believe Trevor actually likes this place.

0:03:340:03:36

We can come here every year! Brilliant!
