A very quiet spell of weather really over the past couple of weeks

0:00:020:00:05

but things are now changing and we have much more unsettled

0:00:050:00:08

conditions on the cards through much of the week ahead.

0:00:080:00:11

Starting off with the long Easter weekend,

0:00:110:00:13

Good Friday probably the drier day with spells of sunshine,

0:00:130:00:16

Saturday potentially pretty wet and windy too.

0:00:160:00:20

Then Easter Sunday, sunshine and heavy showers before we see

0:00:200:00:24

more wind and more rain in time for Easter Monday.

0:00:240:00:27

Let's start with Good Friday then.

0:00:270:00:29

For much of the country we are looking at a dry day with

0:00:290:00:31

lovely spells of sunshine, light winds in the main. A little

0:00:310:00:35

bit of cloud building through the afternoon

0:00:350:00:37

and more cloud, some wind and rain

0:00:370:00:38

into the far north-west late in the day

0:00:380:00:41

but before that gets there, temperatures 14,

0:00:410:00:44

possibly 15 degrees, so it will feel pleasant with the light winds

0:00:440:00:47

and sunshine on Good Friday.

0:00:470:00:49

But heading through the overnight period, this frontal system moves

0:00:490:00:53

its away across Northern Ireland and Scotland bringing a spell of wet

0:00:530:00:55

and windy weather and then ripples of heavy rain and strong gusty

0:00:550:00:58

winds pushing in from the south-west as we start off the day on Saturday.

0:00:580:01:03

A mild start to the day, frost-free across the board

0:01:030:01:06

but a lot of cloud, wind and heavy rain too.

0:01:060:01:09

You can see the proximity of the isobars on the map through

0:01:090:01:12

Saturday indicating that spell of potentially windy weather with

0:01:120:01:16

this weather front bringing spells of rain.

0:01:160:01:18

The rain will be heavy at times as it moves across England and Wales.

0:01:180:01:22

Squally, gusty winds in association with that band of rain.

0:01:220:01:26

The combination of wind and rain across southern

0:01:260:01:29

parts of the country could be causing travel disruption.

0:01:290:01:31

Further north-west, a little bit quieter for Northern Ireland

0:01:310:01:34

and Scotland with some wintry showers over the hills.

0:01:340:01:37

In terms of England and Wales, for Saturday a combination of gales,

0:01:370:01:41

heavy rain at times meaning some disruption to travel through the day.

0:01:410:01:45

Things do quieten down somewhat as we move through Saturday

0:01:450:01:48

night into Easter Day on Sunday.

0:01:480:01:50

That front moves out of the way, low pressure in charge

0:01:500:01:53

so through Easter Day on Sunday it will be a mix of brighter

0:01:530:01:57

intervals but also heavily scattered showers, a chance of hail,

0:01:570:02:00

thunder and quite cold as well particularly exposed to the

0:02:000:02:03

breeze with those heavy downpours at times.

0:02:030:02:07

Not much letup in the weather on into Easter Monday.

0:02:070:02:09

This next system, low pressure system,

0:02:090:02:11

moves in most likely from the south-west.

0:02:110:02:13

Some uncertainty about the timing and detail of the system but it

0:02:130:02:17

looks like we're expecting another spell of potentially heavy rain and

0:02:170:02:20

strong winds, particularly affecting England

0:02:200:02:23

and Wales. Northern Ireland and Scotland could see some strong

0:02:230:02:25

winds but a slightly quieter spell of weather further north.

0:02:250:02:29

Then, as we move through into Tuesday,

0:02:290:02:32

low pressure gradually starting to edge off towards the east,

0:02:320:02:35

things are still looking fairly showery through Tuesday

0:02:350:02:38

so a day of some sunshine, some dry weather

0:02:380:02:41

but also some scattered showers for western areas.

0:02:410:02:43

In the east is where we will see more shelter and drier conditions

0:02:430:02:46

but temperatures a little below average for the time of year.

0:02:460:02:49

Early next week things are still dominated by low-pressure

0:02:490:02:53

bringing wind and rain at times.

0:02:530:02:55

It looks towards the middle part of the week, Tuesday into Wednesday,

0:02:550:02:59

low-pressure tends to edge off into east so a quieter brief

0:02:590:03:03

interlude of weather through the middle of the week but late next

0:03:030:03:06

week we're likely to see low-pressure returning from the Atlantic,

0:03:060:03:09

probably towards the north-west of the UK, could be further south so it

0:03:090:03:12

looks like things will turn unsettled later in the week once again.

0:03:120:03:15

Through the course of next week,

0:03:150:03:17

changeable weather on the cards, often spells of rain and wind.

0:03:170:03:22

Some quieter interludes with the chance of chilly nights with

0:03:220:03:25

a frost at times.

0:03:250:03:26

Lots going on. We will keep you up-to-date right here.
