10/04/2016 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello. We'll find differences north, south across the UK,

but the overall weather pattern isn't really going to change

a lot over the week ahead.

Sunday sees rain

across northern parts of the UK

and to the south-west,

where they'll be strong to gale force winds.

Could lead to coastal flooding

across southern parts of Cornwall.

Elsewhere, most places will have

a dry day with some sunshine.

And the weather will improve in Scotland.

it peters out through the day,

so there'll be sunshine in the afternoon,

particularly central belt southwards.

After a chilly start

in Northern Ireland and northern England,

you can look forward to a lot of sunshine

and dry weather on Sunday.

There'll be sunshine across Wales,

the Midlands to south-east England for a while,

but it will cloud over a bit more.

That's because we'll get rain developing

across the south-west of England,

across Hampshire maybe into south Wales.

Lower temperatures here,

but otherwise temperatures will be

That rain that's developing

in the south-west is rather sporadic.

It just drifts northwards across Wales.

Maybe the West Midlands overnight

and into Northern Ireland for a time.

But there'll be more cloud around Sunday night,

more of a breeze as well. So it won't be as cold.

Lowest temperatures will be

in the glens of Scotland.

The big driving force of the weather

for the beginning of the week and beyond

is this big area of low pressure.

Around it, we've got these weather fronts

rotating slowly.

On the weather front, we'll find some rain.

So it may affect

Northern Ireland for a while,

across parts of Wales,

to the West Country towards Portsmouth.

But some uncertainty

about where that rain will come to rest.

There could be more imported

from the near continent as well.

Looks likely that the Midlands northwards

should be dry with sunshine.

But there'll be a chilly wind off the north Sea,

noticeable in eastern Scotland

and north-east England.

So, as we move into Tuesday,

low pressure is stationary

to the south-west of the UK.

But these weather fronts are starting

to push further north.

So we end up with a three-way split.

Scotland, Northern Ireland,

somewhat drier, cold, easterly wind.

We've got rain across the central areas.

To the south, some sunshine,

but that will give rise to quite a few showers,

some of them heavy, potentially thundery.

There's warmer air coming in

from the near continent,

so 15 or so in the south-east,

noticeably colder in Scotland

and the north-east of England.

That wind still blowing

across northern Scotland on Wednesday.

The rain having pushed further north,

could be wintry over the hills

perhaps in Scotland's mountains.

To the south, we've got higher temperatures

triggering more showers,

more downpours through the day, in particular.

We end up with low pressure

across more southern parts of the UK on Thursday,

high pressure trying to nose in

to the north and north-west.

So here, across Scotland,

later Northern Ireland, maybe northern England,

it should turn drier, brighter,

some sunshine, but quite cold.

We're left with wetter conditions

across the southern half of the UK

where it's somewhat milder.

So, a familiar theme.

And that pattern will continue into the outlook as well.

Colder air across the north,

with winds swirling around that low pressure in the south-west.

And there's milder air from the near continent.

That will try and push in to southern parts of the UK at times,

but we'll hang onto that cold easterly wind across the north.

So you can see the differences we've got

in those maximum temperatures

as we look towards next weekend.

It's still very unsettled, some showers,

longer spells of rain, some sunshine,

chilly nights across the north,

somewhat milder conditions across the south.

And the milder boundary may push further north

by the end of next weekend.
