Hello there. On Wednesday, parts of England and Wales

0:00:030:00:05

again recorded the highest temperatures of the year so far.

0:00:050:00:08

Temperatures peaked close to 19 Celsius, in fact,

0:00:080:00:11

to the west of London,

0:00:110:00:13

but big differences once again, further north.

0:00:130:00:15

A good 12 degrees cooler in parts of central and southern Scotland.

0:00:150:00:19

There will be changes ahead, though.

0:00:190:00:21

We'll iron out those contrasts through the rest of this week,

0:00:210:00:23

and by Saturday all of us will be in the colder air,

0:00:230:00:26

many struggling to get out of single figures.

0:00:260:00:28

We'll need a bit of sunshine to boost temperatures

0:00:280:00:30

such as six or seven for many of you.

0:00:300:00:33

It's a few days away, and it's going to be a slow process change,

0:00:330:00:36

and the reason, we've still got the jet stream

0:00:360:00:38

in a sort of z-shape pattern as I mentioned yesterday.

0:00:380:00:40

High pressure to the north-west of the UK,

0:00:400:00:42

low pressure to the south-west.

0:00:420:00:43

Low pressure has more influence on Thursday,

0:00:430:00:45

meaning showers across England and Wales.

0:00:450:00:47

We've seen heavy, thundery ones in the past few days.

0:00:470:00:49

On Thursday, more widespread and heaviest through the afternoon

0:00:490:00:52

in Wales, the Midlands and East Anglia.

0:00:520:00:54

Brightening up the south coast after a wet start,

0:00:540:00:56

though more heavy rain in the far south-west of England

0:00:560:00:59

and Channel Islands, later.

0:00:590:01:00

In the sunshine, either side of the showers, still potentially

0:01:000:01:03

mid-teen temperatures.

0:01:030:01:04

Scotland, Northern Ireland, the far north of England, single figures.

0:01:040:01:07

But a brighter day compared to recent days.

0:01:070:01:09

Then through Thursday night into Friday,

0:01:090:01:11

we've one weather front pushing northwards across England and Wales,

0:01:110:01:14

another working its way south into Scotland.

0:01:140:01:16

In between, some drier weather.

0:01:160:01:18

A touch of frost here and there,

0:01:180:01:20

but colder air starting to push in from the north,

0:01:200:01:22

with this second weather front we can see pushing across Scotland.

0:01:220:01:25

Winds all the way from the Arctic,

0:01:250:01:27

and so a drastic drop in temperature.

0:01:270:01:29

And on that weather front we will see the rain turn to sleet and snow,

0:01:290:01:31

even at lower levels at times.

0:01:310:01:33

Not expecting any massive disruption at the moment,

0:01:330:01:35

but certainly a wintry feel.

0:01:350:01:37

That pushes into Northern Ireland, eventually northern England.

0:01:370:01:40

Rest of England and Wales, low-pressure centred here.

0:01:400:01:42

You'll be hard pressed to stay dry throughout,

0:01:420:01:44

because there will be rain just about anywhere.

0:01:440:01:46

Still some heavy thundery downpours especially where we see brightness,

0:01:460:01:49

temperatures in the mid-teens.

0:01:490:01:51

Only around four or five Celsius in the north-east of Scotland.

0:01:510:01:53

That low-pressure system is with us in England and Wales on Friday.

0:01:530:01:56

Starts to push eastward into Saturday.

0:01:560:01:58

It allows, then, that colder air that I mentioned

0:01:580:02:00

southwards to all parts of the UK.

0:02:000:02:03

Not a great start across England and Wales, outbreaks of rain which will

0:02:030:02:06

turn to sleet and snow over the hills, but gradually clears through.

0:02:060:02:09

Winds easing a little bit in the west later on,

0:02:090:02:11

turning a little bit brighter as well,

0:02:110:02:13

and as I said, you need a bit of sunshine

0:02:130:02:15

to see temperatures into double figures.

0:02:150:02:17

Some may languish around four, five Celsius through part of the day.

0:02:170:02:21

But it's high pressure which eventually builds in to Sunday

0:02:210:02:23

from the west.

0:02:230:02:25

We've a bit of a breeze across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:02:250:02:27

This time a westerly direction.

0:02:270:02:29

Eastern areas will probably fare better than you've done of late,

0:02:290:02:31

and there is that high pressure system.

0:02:310:02:33

It's there across the south of the country Sunday into Monday.

0:02:330:02:36

We do have a low-pressure system between Iceland and Norway, which

0:02:360:02:39

will have certain influence across Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:02:390:02:42

bringing some cloud, a few showers around, and a bit more of a breeze,

0:02:420:02:45

but compared to what we have at the moment, a big improvement.

0:02:450:02:47

In the south, after a frosty start,

0:02:470:02:49

temperatures lifting back into double figures widely once again.

0:02:490:02:52

So, we go into next week.

0:02:530:02:54

We've lost that s-shaped, z-shaped jet stream that I mentioned.

0:02:540:02:59

Instead, we've got two.

0:02:590:03:00

And in between, high pressure is going to sit there,

0:03:000:03:03

and it looks set to sit all week.

0:03:030:03:05

Now, yesterday I said there was a chance further east for warm air.

0:03:050:03:08

Looking a little less likely now.

0:03:080:03:09

It's going to be mainly to the west of us, bringing cooler

0:03:090:03:12

Atlantic air around the top, but do not write the week off because

0:03:120:03:16

don't forget, the April sunshine is getting that bit stronger.

0:03:160:03:18

More of you will be drier for longer.

0:03:180:03:21

Just one or two showers around. When the sunshine is out,

0:03:210:03:23

it will feel pleasantly warm, but still, the night...

0:03:230:03:25

And this will be a important one for the gardeners.

0:03:250:03:27

..the chill will be there, with a bit of frost always possible. Bye.
