Hello there. Our spell of wintry- feeling spring weather certainly | 0:00:03 | 0:00:06
continues for the next 24 hours or so. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:08
Some milder weather on the horizon, as we look towards the weekend. | 0:00:08 | 0:00:11
But we're not there just yet. We've still got this area | 0:00:11 | 0:00:13
of low pressure influencing our weather. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:16
It's moved in across that cold air that's been in charge over | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
the past week or so. | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
So further wintry showers around on Friday across parts of Scotland, | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
more persistent sleet and hill snow across the southern | 0:00:23 | 0:00:26
half of Scotland, into northern England, too. | 0:00:26 | 0:00:29
Northern Ireland sees a return to sunshine. | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
Still some wintry showers here. | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
And away from the far north of England | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
and northern parts of Wales, for the rest of England | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
and Wales, Friday starts on not a bad note, actually. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:40
A cold and a frosty morning to come for some of us, | 0:00:40 | 0:00:43
but there will be some sunshine on offer. | 0:00:43 | 0:00:45
So, as we head through the day, persistent sleet | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
and hill snow for a time across parts of southern Scotland, | 0:00:47 | 0:00:50
northern England, too, so accumulations of snow | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
for the Pennines, towards Snowdonia, as well. | 0:00:52 | 0:00:55
At lower levels, it will be mainly falling as rain. | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
But away from this zone, for the rest of the UK, | 0:00:57 | 0:01:00
a day of sunshine and scattered showers. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:02
For some of us, it will feel a little bit warmer, 13 degrees or so. | 0:01:02 | 0:01:05
But particularly across southern Scotland and northern England, | 0:01:05 | 0:01:08
if you've got travel plans on Friday, | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
that heavy snow could be causing some local travel disruption. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:14
As we look towards the weekend, we have got milder weather on the way, | 0:01:14 | 0:01:18
bringing us some sunshine, as well, | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
also some rain, more particularly, by the time we get to Sunday. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:24
During Saturday, once we get rid of this area of low pressure, | 0:01:24 | 0:01:27
what we're going to be seeing is higher pressure, in fact, | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
building in from the south-west, and that will quieten things down. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:32
So a chilly start to the day on Saturday, plenty of sunshine, | 0:01:32 | 0:01:36
much lighter winds than we've seen recently, | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
just a few scattered showers building through the day. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
I think they'll be easing away from the west with that | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
higher pressure building in later on. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
For most of us, we're back into double figures, 14 degrees or so, | 0:01:44 | 0:01:48
which will feel pleasant enough, towards the south-east. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
Now, for much of England and Wales, we'll start off Sunday dry, | 0:01:50 | 0:01:54
sunny and feeling a bit warmer, certainly, than it has done. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:56
But we'll see wet and windy weather working in from the north-west | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
heading into central parts of the UK later on Sunday. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:03
That's all down to this frontal system here, | 0:02:03 | 0:02:05
and you can see fairly tight isobars around that, too, as it | 0:02:05 | 0:02:07
drifts its way gradually southwards and eastwards across the country, | 0:02:07 | 0:02:11
so there will be a spell of wet and windy weather. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:13
Some uncertainty about the timings of this system, | 0:02:13 | 0:02:16
but it does look, as we head into Bank Holiday Monday, | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
that we'll see some rain initially across the north-west of the UK, | 0:02:19 | 0:02:22
tending to move south-eastwards through the day. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:24
Some sunshine either side of that wet and windy weather. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
16 degrees or so possible. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:29
By Tuesday, once that band of rain gets out of the way, | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
we're left with a north-westerly air flow, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:33
bringing us a mix of sunshine, scattered showers. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:36
Around about 10 to 15 degrees by the time we get to Tuesday. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
Let's take a look at what the jet stream will be doing through | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
the middle to the end of next week. | 0:02:42 | 0:02:43
Well, it has been well to the south of the UK, | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
allowing that cold northerly air. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
The jet is going to be moving its way gradually further north. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
Quite a strong jet, bringing air at upper levels mainly from the | 0:02:50 | 0:02:54
north-west, and that will deliver some milder weather on the way. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:58
If we look at what the temperatures have been doing, | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
we've been well below average, pretty cold, really, | 0:03:00 | 0:03:03
for the past week or so. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:04
Things will now start to warm up | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
over the next few days, and from Saturday onwards, | 0:03:06 | 0:03:09
we'll have temperatures much more typical of the time of year. | 0:03:09 | 0:03:12
So, as we look at the weather as we head through into early May, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
things are going to be remaining rather unsettled. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:18
There will be some rain, some windy conditions at times, | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
particularly in the north-west, but things will be turning milder and | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
we'll be losing that risk of wintry showers and overnight frosts, too. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:27
We'll keep you up to date right here. Bye for now. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:30 |
