Hello. A different weather story for the week ahead, | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
compared to the week we've just had. | 0:00:04 | 0:00:06
Last week, our winds generally came from an east or south-easterly | 0:00:06 | 0:00:09
direction, that means the highest of the temperatures were to the west. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:11
The warmest of the week was Plockton in the Highlands - 28 Celsius, | 0:00:11 | 0:00:14
82 Fahrenheit, on Monday. | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
But from Tuesday onwards, those easterly winds off a chilly sea | 0:00:16 | 0:00:19
meant across the Lincolnshire coast, we never got above 12 Celsius. | 0:00:19 | 0:00:22
And with easterly winds, | 0:00:22 | 0:00:23
it meant low pressure was closer to the south. | 0:00:23 | 0:00:26
Cardiff, our wettest spot with over two inches of rain. | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
The week ahead is the reverse. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:30
We've got the winds generally coming in from a west | 0:00:30 | 0:00:32
or south-westerly direction. | 0:00:32 | 0:00:33
That does mean the wetter weather will be to the north and west, | 0:00:33 | 0:00:36
the sunnier conditions to the south and the east. | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
But even here, we'll see a bit of rain. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
Not too much rain to begin with. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:42
Still be quite a chilly morning on Monday, but after a | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
sunny start, like Sunday, a bit more cloud bubbling up in the afternoon. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:48
The thickest of the cloud northern Scotland. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:50
A few showers here, isolated showers to eastern England, | 0:00:50 | 0:00:53
but the winds starting to go to north-westerly by this date | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
so temperatures not as low as they were through the weekend | 0:00:55 | 0:00:58
and elsewhere in the sunshine. | 0:00:58 | 0:01:00
It actually feels pleasantly warm, | 0:01:00 | 0:01:02
temperatures up into the mid to high teens. | 0:01:02 | 0:01:04
Another cool night will follow across southern areas into Tuesday. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:07
This is where the clearest of the skies will be. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:09
More cloud generally further north. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11
Still some spots of rain in northern parts of Scotland, | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
but generally dry into Tuesday, | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
temperatures in the countryside into lower single figures. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:18
But, as I said, we are starting to see the temperatures rise. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
That is because the Atlantic air will start to have an | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
influence as we go through Tuesday. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:24
It's a slow process, most will have a fine day on Tuesday, | 0:01:24 | 0:01:27
again some good sunny spells. Clouds amount increasing through. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:30
sunshine turning hazy in the west | 0:01:30 | 0:01:31
and we finish the afternoon with wetter weather west of Scotland | 0:01:31 | 0:01:34
and certainly through Northern Ireland for a time. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
But temperatures at where they should be this time of year. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
They will be getting close to 20 degrees in the south-east corner. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
Then, from midweek onwards, | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
we open the door to a much stronger Atlantic jetstream. | 0:01:45 | 0:01:48
Warmer air the south, colder air to the north. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
We are generally on the warmer side of that jetstream. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:53
That means low-pressure systems, | 0:01:53 | 0:01:54
which will be queueing up from midweek onwards. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:57
One such system pushing to the north through Tuesday night | 0:01:57 | 0:02:00
into Wednesday bringing all a spell of rain. A few heavy bursts. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
The weather fronts clear away leaving a mixture of sunshine and | 0:02:03 | 0:02:06
frequent heavy and thundery showers, especially for England and Wales. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
Temperatures in the mid- to high teens in the sunnier spells. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:13
But turning breezier by this stage and windier still into Thursday. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:16
Another system passing through. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:17
The actual rainfall amounts not giving us | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
too much concern at the moment. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
We could see winds touch gale force across the south. | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
Probably the wettest weather throughout Thursday | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
will be across parts of central and northern Scotland. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
Further south, a spell of rain at some point through the day, | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
brighter weather either side. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
Just one or two showers. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
Temperatures still around where they should be for the time of year. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
Onto Friday, that low-pressure system hanging across the north | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
means elsewhere we will she wettest weather. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:41
Blustery with occasional showers, some of those showery | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
heavy the further south for England and Wales. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
But still those south-westerly winds. You will notice though, | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
it's turning chillier across the far north of Scotland by this stage. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:52
Getting almost onto the wrong side of the jetstream. | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
And as low pressure starts to pull away eastwards throughout | 0:02:54 | 0:02:57
the weekend, it gradually takes the wetter weather with it | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
but it does open the door to a slightly cooler flow of air. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:03
That's really through the weekend. Much of this week, | 0:03:03 | 0:03:05
the big story will be the night compared to the weekend we've got. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:08
At the moment, not quite as chilly, | 0:03:08 | 0:03:10
a little bit warmer by day across eastern areas too, | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
but be ready for something a bit windier and wetter at times. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:17
That rain will be punctuated by something drier and brighter. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
And it does look like, as we go into the following week, | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
drier and brighter weather will dominate. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:24
High pressure starting to building from the south-west. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:26
We'll keep you updated on what that means for you over the coming days. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
Bye for now. | 0:03:29 | 0:03:30
They might tell me one of my twins has died. | 0:03:31 | 0:03:33
They are not going to say that baby. | 0:03:33 | 0:03:35
I don't know how he's going to come out of there. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:37
I just can't see it happening. | 0:03:37 | 0:03:38
You should've thought of that before you agreed to it going in! | 0:03:38 | 0:03:41
OK, then. Let's see what we can see. | 0:03:41 | 0:03:43
Right, push, Shelly, push! | 0:03:43 | 0:03:45
Push, Shelly, push! | 0:03:45 | 0:03:46 |
