Hello. So far this week, the weather pattern has been stuck in repeat, | 0:00:03 | 0:00:06
so many of us across the southeast have had skies like this, | 0:00:06 | 0:00:10
a disappointing feel across the beaches of Cleethorpes, | 0:00:10 | 0:00:14
only highs of 11 Celsius. | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
Different story north and west - | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
absolutely glorious, not a cloud in the sky in Derrylin, 23 Celsius. | 0:00:18 | 0:00:23
It looks as though | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
the northwest seeing the best of the weather | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
on Thursday, but even western fringes, | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30
starting off overcast, | 0:00:30 | 0:00:32
will see the cloud nibbled away, | 0:00:32 | 0:00:35
more sunshine coming through. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
On North Sea coasts, always more cloud, | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
and a disappointing 11 to 13 degrees, | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
but with some sun, highs of 19 Celsius. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
As we move out of Thursday, | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
we could pull in more persistent rain | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
across the Northern Isles. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
That will just fringe with northern Scotland | 0:00:51 | 0:00:54
overnight. Waiting in the North Sea, | 0:00:54 | 0:00:57
we could see further showery rain to come. | 0:00:57 | 0:01:00
So, it'll be fairly cloudy, fairly overcast. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
Friday looks likely to be quite a dull day | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
with showery outbreaks of rain | 0:01:06 | 0:01:09
drifting their way from east to west, | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11
particularly in Scotland, | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
sheltered fringes in the west | 0:01:13 | 0:01:14
seeing the best of the sunshine | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
but there'll be more cloud around, I suspect, | 0:01:16 | 0:01:19
and not quite as warm - | 0:01:19 | 0:01:21
13 to 18 Celsius. | 0:01:21 | 0:01:23
But there's a change to come | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
as we move towards the weekend. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
It's looking pretty decent. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
Mostly dry, hopefully the cloud breaking up, | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
with a little more sunshine | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
and, as a consequence, it will be warm. | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
There's a risk of a few showers | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
and that risk is most likely to be | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
out to the west, | 0:01:40 | 0:01:41
but top temperatures likely | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
of around 13 to 21 Celsius. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
On Sunday, there's a greater chance | 0:01:45 | 0:01:47
of more sunshine. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
The high pressure that's been influential | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
this week starting to lose its grip | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
across the UK, the isobars are opening up, | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
lighter winds are likely on Sunday, | 0:01:57 | 0:02:00
and as a consequence, | 0:02:00 | 0:02:01
that'll help the cloud break up, | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
we'll see more sunshine coming through, | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
so quite a pleasant day. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:07
There is still the risk of disappointing temperatures | 0:02:07 | 0:02:11
on North Sea coasts as we keep cloud and haar, | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
so west again is best, | 0:02:14 | 0:02:15
in terms of sunshine, | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
but not bad in the southeast corner, | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
but along these North Sea coasts, | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
could be a little disappointing. | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
Further inland, if the cloud breaks up | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
and the sun comes through, | 0:02:26 | 0:02:27
it'll be pleasant. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:29
So far this week, | 0:02:29 | 0:02:30
we've had a very weak jet stream | 0:02:30 | 0:02:31
and that hasn't been influencing | 0:02:31 | 0:02:33
the weather. It's almost been | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
reverting back on itself | 0:02:35 | 0:02:37
and allowing that high pressure | 0:02:37 | 0:02:38
across the far northwest | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
to sit there, stationary, | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
influencing the story. | 0:02:42 | 0:02:43
That's been allowing this cold | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
northerly flow, dragging in cloud | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
off the North Sea, | 0:02:47 | 0:02:48
and it's produced this real | 0:02:48 | 0:02:50
northwest-southeast contrast. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:51
But as we move towards the weekend, | 0:02:51 | 0:02:54
we're starting to see a change. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
We'll revert back to more of a | 0:02:56 | 0:02:57
mobile westerly, an area | 0:02:57 | 0:02:58
of low pressure comes into play | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
across the southwest. That'll | 0:03:00 | 0:03:02
drag up some pretty humid air | 0:03:02 | 0:03:04
and we could see the potential | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
for some thunderstorms, | 0:03:06 | 0:03:07
starting off in the southwest | 0:03:07 | 0:03:09
but then developing elsewhere. | 0:03:09 | 0:03:12
So, early next week, we have | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
this warm, humid plume of air, | 0:03:14 | 0:03:15
temperatures could get | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
at least into the mid-20s, | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
maybe higher, but, as a consequence, | 0:03:19 | 0:03:21
that could spark off | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
some thundery downpours as well, | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
so it's not perfect weather, | 0:03:26 | 0:03:27
but it looks better in the southeast | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29
than it has been. | 0:03:29 | 0:03:30 |
