10/06/2016 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello. After a few days of very warm,

muggy air and a few thunderstorms,

the weather is going to change over the week ahead.

We look at the situation that we've seen over the past few days -

this is the position of the jet stream.

It's been quite kinked over the UK,

but it's allowed us to draw in this warmer and humid air.

The jet stream is quite weak and it looks like it's going to

change orientation over the next couple of days.

Right now, though, we've got some showers in the story for Friday,

particularly developing across more northern parts of the UK.

We could see some patchy rain, though, slipping into the far

south-west of England, possibly into the south-west of Wales as well.

More cloud around, certainly, on Friday.

But still some hazy sunshine

and for most of the day, it'll be dry across the south-east

and East Anglia and this is where it will still feel quite warm as well.

But much cooler, I think, for Scotland, notably in Glasgow.

We'll see some more of those showers continuing overnight.

Some more organised rain coming into Wales, the south-west,

maybe some southern parts of England towards the south-east as well.

A lot of cloud around, certainly,

so that is going to keep the temperatures on the high side.

Except to the north of the rain in Scotland.

We've got a weather front on the scene across northern

parts of the UK, but this is going to be the main driving force

of our weather as we head through the weekend.

It's still a long way off,

but it will push in showers or longer spells of rain.

The longer spells of rain and drizzle will mainly

be across Scotland on Saturday, so quite a cool-feeling day here.

The rest of the UK seeing some sunshine at times,

but there will be some showers around as well.

A few heavier ones across western parts of England and Wales.

But still in some sunshine in this muggy air

and it should feel quite warm again.

Now as we head through to the second half of the weekend, we're going

to find this area of low pressure pushing weather fronts our way.

So we're going to find the cloud thickening up

and there'll be some outbreaks of rain and drizzle pushing across

many parts of the country, possibly replaced by some breezier

conditions in the south-west and maybe a few showers as well.

Probably going to be a drier day for Scotland, but still not that warm.

Temperatures will be a little lower for many

parts of the country by Sunday.

Quite a tangle, if you like, of weather fronts.

Quite a complicated picture on Monday.

It simplifies, though, as we head into Tuesday.

So we're looking at some showers, some longer spells of rain,

some breezy conditions across southern parts of England

and Wales and the far north of Scotland as well.

16 degrees in the central belt.

Possibly 20 in London if you're lucky.

More simplified, as I say, on Tuesday.

Remove all the fronts, essentially what you've got is

an area of low pressure that is sitting very close to the UK.

For many of us, there's not much wind at all,

so the showers will be slow moving. Could be heavy as well.

A fresher, stronger breeze across southern parts of England

and Wales once again.

So let's head beyond Tuesday and we looked at the jet stream

earlier on and this is how it's looking next week.

I said it was changing position.

It's diving much further south allowing us

to go into the cooler air.

But again, we could see another kink

in the jet stream pushing in later next week.

In that cooler air,

we're going to be sitting close to an area of low pressure.

That, though, may just shrink or retreat away towards Scandinavia

later on in the week, allowing, with that kink in the jet stream,

to push in a ridge of high pressure towards the UK,

perhaps settling things down for a while.

But on the whole, still very unsettled, some rain at times,

some slow-moving downpours with light winds.

Drier maybe later on next week, but possibly only briefly.
