Hello, there. It's been a week of extremes

0:00:030:00:05

and the week ahead looks like continuing in the same vein.

0:00:050:00:09

Now, once again, we've ended the week with some warm sunshine,

0:00:090:00:13

temperatures 23, 24 degrees.

0:00:130:00:15

It may not get as warm as that again in the next ten days

0:00:150:00:18

but we are going to see some more rain a bit like this

0:00:180:00:21

and we had some thunderstorms around as well.

0:00:210:00:23

And we could see more heavy showers developing again

0:00:230:00:26

to start the weekend.

0:00:260:00:28

Again, it's quite a messy picture - a lot of cloud,

0:00:280:00:31

limited amount of sunshine, a few showers from the word go

0:00:310:00:34

and some more heavy ones developing in the afternoon,

0:00:340:00:37

particularly across the Midlands

0:00:370:00:39

and maybe parts of northern England and North Wales too.

0:00:390:00:42

The driest weather could be towards the south-east of England

0:00:420:00:45

where it will still be quite warm and muggy, but cooler

0:00:450:00:48

in Scotland underneath grey cloud and a little light rain or drizzle.

0:00:480:00:53

Those heavy, thundery showers will continue into the evening

0:00:530:00:56

before losing a bit of their oomph overnight,

0:00:560:00:58

but we will see some more rain coming into Wales and the south-west

0:00:580:01:01

by the end of Saturday night in time for Sunday morning.

0:01:010:01:05

Again, quite a warm and muggy night

0:01:050:01:07

except in the north-east of Scotland.

0:01:070:01:09

That rain that's coming into the south-west

0:01:090:01:11

is coming in on these weather fronts.

0:01:110:01:13

There's more than one of them, it's quite a messy picture.

0:01:130:01:16

They are all driven by an area of low pressure the centre of which,

0:01:160:01:19

for a while, is going to be out in the Atlantic.

0:01:190:01:21

More of a breeze, perhaps, in the south-west of England

0:01:210:01:23

will blow this rain up across England and Wales,

0:01:230:01:26

Northern Ireland too.

0:01:260:01:27

Either side of that there may be a glimpse of sunshine but that will

0:01:270:01:30

only trigger some more showers and they could be heavy again.

0:01:300:01:33

If anything, temperatures could be a little bit lower on Sunday.

0:01:330:01:36

It's a slightly cooling trend - 15 in Glasgow, 19 in London

0:01:360:01:40

if you're lucky.

0:01:400:01:41

Again, a complicated weather picture as we head into the beginning

0:01:410:01:45

of the week with numerous weather fronts on the scene.

0:01:450:01:48

They're more showery bands of rain, if you like, on Monday,

0:01:480:01:52

and broadly speaking there will be limited sunshine

0:01:520:01:55

but quite a few showers around on Monday.

0:01:550:01:58

Still some warmth, though,

0:01:580:01:59

particularly across the south-east and East Anglia,

0:01:590:02:02

but otherwise temperatures are about where they should be

0:02:020:02:05

at this time of year.

0:02:050:02:06

So, from Monday into Tuesday, still dominated by this slow-moving,

0:02:060:02:10

large, elongated area of low pressure.

0:02:100:02:12

To the south there will be a stronger breeze

0:02:120:02:14

perhaps running through the English Channel, but otherwise,

0:02:140:02:17

when you get the showers, they are going to be slow-moving

0:02:170:02:19

and may be heavy and thundery too.

0:02:190:02:21

Those temperatures not changing very much - 17 to 19 degrees.

0:02:210:02:26

I've removed all the fronts

0:02:260:02:27

because essentially it's just dominated by an area of low pressure

0:02:270:02:31

for Wednesday. It's sitting to the north-east of the UK.

0:02:310:02:33

Again, not many isobars on the chart,

0:02:330:02:35

so the wind will be light, showers will develop after.

0:02:350:02:39

Most places starting off dry

0:02:390:02:40

but in the afternoon most places will be pretty wet, I suspect.

0:02:400:02:44

Some heavy showers are likely.

0:02:440:02:46

So, that's Wednesday.

0:02:460:02:47

Let's go beyond Wednesday into the end of the week

0:02:470:02:50

and into the weekend

0:02:500:02:51

and we start with that area of low pressure giving us all the showers.

0:02:510:02:54

It should ease away, fade away up towards Scandinavia

0:02:540:02:58

allowing pressure to build from the south-west.

0:02:580:03:01

But that area of high pressure, whilst settling things down,

0:03:010:03:04

may not be around for long because the jet stream,

0:03:040:03:06

which is weak at the moment, strengthens and may start to blow in

0:03:060:03:10

an area of low pressure back in from off the Atlantic.

0:03:100:03:13

So, what does it all mean? Well, it means towards the end of the week

0:03:130:03:16

we've still got some heavy showers, some thunderstorms are likely.

0:03:160:03:19

The breeze may pick up for a while, making it feel cooler,

0:03:190:03:22

briefly drier, hopefully coinciding with the weekend,

0:03:220:03:25

where we should see a little more sunshine.

0:03:250:03:28

That's it from me, I'll see you again.

0:03:280:03:30

A low ball into the penalty area.

0:03:320:03:34

Gareth Bale turns.

0:03:340:03:35

And Gareth Bale has scored!
