Hello. It's that time in the day where we take a look further forward | 0:00:03 | 0:00:06
and look at the weather trend over the next six to ten days. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:08
This week the trend has been to lose | 0:00:08 | 0:00:10
the sunshine, really, | 0:00:10 | 0:00:12
and the high temperatures, but we did at least see a little sunshine | 0:00:12 | 0:00:15
during the day on Saturday, thanks to our weather watchers in Cornwall. | 0:00:15 | 0:00:18
But we had some intense storms, this was in Stockport as well, | 0:00:18 | 0:00:21
through the latter part of the afternoon | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
and the intense storms have again led to flash flooding. | 0:00:23 | 0:00:26
Now those storms will take a while | 0:00:26 | 0:00:27
to fizzle out through | 0:00:27 | 0:00:28
the evening, but will do overnight | 0:00:28 | 0:00:30
and then it's a grey and a murky picture | 0:00:30 | 0:00:32
to start Sunday with another weather system | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
coming in, as well as | 0:00:34 | 0:00:35
the one we have across Scotland, | 0:00:35 | 0:00:36
keeping things rather damp | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
and grey and murky here. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:39
The energy from this next weather system | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
will inject more moisture | 0:00:41 | 0:00:42
into the atmosphere and again the risk | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
of some more severe thunderstorms, | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
torrential downpours | 0:00:46 | 0:00:47
across England and Wales, | 0:00:47 | 0:00:48
possibly Northern Ireland | 0:00:48 | 0:00:50
and the south-west of Scotland. | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
Those storms again then | 0:00:52 | 0:00:53
through Sunday evening will tend to | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
fizzle out and again | 0:00:55 | 0:00:56
it'll be uncomfortably close by night | 0:00:56 | 0:00:58
but the mist and fog returning | 0:00:58 | 0:00:59
and yet another band of showery rain | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
coming back in for the start | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
of the new week. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:04
So the trend for rather cloudy, | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
misty, grey mornings and then | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
quite showery afternoons continues | 0:01:08 | 0:01:09
through Sunday and into Monday. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:10
And that's because we've got low pressure | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
sitting to the west of us | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
and throwing in these weather systems | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
into what is already very moist and humid air, | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
so Monday looks as if we could, | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
once again, have some torrential downpours, | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
especially for England and Wales, | 0:01:22 | 0:01:24
not exclusively. Further north | 0:01:24 | 0:01:25
we have the remnants of the weather front. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
The far north of Scotland, | 0:01:27 | 0:01:28
as we've seen through Saturday | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
and again on Sunday will have | 0:01:30 | 0:01:31
some very decent weather. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:32
It's fresher up here. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:33
That fresher air will eventually | 0:01:33 | 0:01:34
make its way southwards | 0:01:34 | 0:01:36
across the rest of the country, | 0:01:36 | 0:01:37
but not through Monday. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:38
And indeed not through Tuesday. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:39
That low pressure makes | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
a little further progress | 0:01:41 | 0:01:42
eastwards during Monday night and into Tuesday. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
It's still a very slow moving | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
or meandering low pressure, | 0:01:46 | 0:01:47
so that means a lot of our showers | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
will have little winds | 0:01:49 | 0:01:50
surrounding them, | 0:01:50 | 0:01:51
so they will last a while as we've seen. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
We're just starting to feel that effect | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
of the fresher air already in the north | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
and the weather system with it on Tuesday. | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
Elsewhere, sunny spells | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
and scattered heavy showers. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:02
But it will start to feel a little bit fresher | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
and more comfortable for sleeping by night. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
As we get towards Wednesday, | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
we're starting to see that northerly wind | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
affecting more areas of Scotland, | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
so we'll start to feel the fresher effect here | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
and hopefully it'll break up the cloud, | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
but still there'll be showers in the forecast | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
and still temperatures | 0:02:20 | 0:02:21
into the mid- to high teens, | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
so although we're dropping our humidity, | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
we're still achieving temperatures | 0:02:25 | 0:02:26
of around average for the time of year. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:28
And then the low pressure | 0:02:28 | 0:02:29
drifts into the North Sea | 0:02:29 | 0:02:30
and high pressure starts to encroach | 0:02:30 | 0:02:33
from the Atlantic | 0:02:33 | 0:02:34
and that's coming in for the latter part | 0:02:34 | 0:02:36
of the coming week, | 0:02:36 | 0:02:37
but for Thursday, again, | 0:02:37 | 0:02:38
it does look particularly unsettled - | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
further spells of showery rain | 0:02:40 | 0:02:43
and some heavy ones. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:44
But that northerly breeze makes it feel fresher. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
Thereafter, as I mentioned, | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
that low pressure which will be with us for much of the week | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
starts to drift away and that high pressure comes in. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:54
That Azores high | 0:02:54 | 0:02:55
comes in temporarily | 0:02:55 | 0:02:56
because after the coming weekend, | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
it looks as if that will be | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
scooted out of the way | 0:03:00 | 0:03:01
and it looks as if the jet stream | 0:03:01 | 0:03:02
will once again strengthen. | 0:03:02 | 0:03:04
The jet stream, remember, | 0:03:04 | 0:03:05
the upper winds that drive in the low pressures across the Atlantic. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:08
It does look as if things will become | 0:03:08 | 0:03:10
what we call more mobile again. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
So further weather systems, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:13
bringing showers or indeed longer spells of rain, | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
which is pretty much | 0:03:16 | 0:03:17
how this week is shaping up, | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
although it will feel fresher, | 0:03:19 | 0:03:20
a little bit cooler by night, | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
between those showers | 0:03:22 | 0:03:23
and we will have that drier period | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
very briefly before it turns | 0:03:25 | 0:03:26
much more unsettled | 0:03:26 | 0:03:27
once again | 0:03:27 | 0:03:28
after the following weekend. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30 |
