Hello. At this time of year, summer fetes and sports days clutter | 0:00:03 | 0:00:06
our home calendars. What we need is a spell of prolonged sunshine. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:09
Think again. It stays unsettled this week. Yet again, | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
Tuesday brings another day of slow-moving showers, | 0:00:12 | 0:00:16
some heavy and thundery. | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
A spell of more persistent rain pushing in to the north-east | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
of Scotland after a glorious Monday here. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
Cooler as well in the far north-east, 12 or 13 degrees. | 0:00:23 | 0:00:26
In between the showers, if you get sunshine | 0:00:26 | 0:00:29
we should see highs of 20 degrees, 68 Fahrenheit, | 0:00:29 | 0:00:32
in the south-east. | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
Moving out of Tuesday, you can see plenty of showers | 0:00:34 | 0:00:38
but they will fade away for a time, with the exception of the far | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
north, more persistent rain lingers throughout the night. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
Temperatures stay widely into double figures. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
But on Wednesday, | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
still that area of low pressure influencing the weather story | 0:00:49 | 0:00:52
and we have still got more of a northerly flow to the north. | 0:00:52 | 0:00:55
Underneath the cloud and the rain, | 0:00:55 | 0:00:56
it will start to feel fresher, driving in outbreaks of rain | 0:00:56 | 0:01:01
across central and southern areas of Scotland and a cooler feel here. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:05
Sunny spells and scattered showers elsewhere. | 0:01:05 | 0:01:07
If you dodge the showers and you get the sunshine, | 0:01:07 | 0:01:10
shouldn't feel too bad but even so, temperatures down a degree are so. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:13
Highest values of 19 degrees, only 11 to 13 in the far north and east. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:19
Still that area of low pressure with us, still that northerly flow. | 0:01:19 | 0:01:22
You can see that by the isobars starting to descend further | 0:01:22 | 0:01:25
south and so a fresher feel perhaps for all by Thursday, | 0:01:25 | 0:01:30
particularly into the north. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
It will be cooler but showers should be fairly isolated, more widespread | 0:01:32 | 0:01:36
across England and Wales. 11 to 15 degrees to the north, | 0:01:36 | 0:01:40
highs of 17 to 20 further south. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
Into Friday, again | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
a northerly flow taking over across the country | 0:01:45 | 0:01:47
so despite some sunshine and a drier feel to the south, | 0:01:47 | 0:01:50
temperatures a notch or so down, 17 or 18 at the very best. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:54
We will start to see an area of high pressure | 0:01:54 | 0:01:57
building from the south-west, the Azores High, but watch it, | 0:01:57 | 0:02:00
already into Saturday it is starting to change shape. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
That is going to be important with our six-to-ten-day outlook. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:07
It does look as though the start to the weekend likely | 0:02:07 | 0:02:10
to be the best day of the week. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
Quieting down, drying up with more sunshine coming through. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
So despite 12 to 18 degrees again, with the sunshine | 0:02:15 | 0:02:18
it will feel a bit better. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
This is the story throughout this week, | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
an area of low pressure anchored across the UK. Why? | 0:02:22 | 0:02:26
Why is it not going very far? | 0:02:26 | 0:02:27
It is all due, yes, you guessed it, to the jet stream. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:31
A very weak jet at the moment, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
so much so it is diffusing almost into two. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
It doesn't have the oomph to push that area of low pressure | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
out of the way. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
Hence the reason that each day this week is fairly typical, | 0:02:42 | 0:02:45
sunshine and sharp, slow-moving showers. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:48
Eventually it will move away and allow that Azores High to | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
build from the south-west but not for very long. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:54
Start of the weekend looks promising, | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
but then the high-pressure tilts | 0:02:56 | 0:02:57
and that potentially could allow, again, to open | 0:02:57 | 0:03:02
the door to further low pressures moving in from the Atlantic. | 0:03:02 | 0:03:06
So it will be a brief respite into the start of the weekend | 0:03:06 | 0:03:09
before we see more showers returning. | 0:03:09 | 0:03:11
So the longer outlook remains somewhat like this. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:15
It does look as though the weekend will be slightly more promising, | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
a sunnier weekend, and as a result, it will feel a little warmer. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:21
But the showers never too far away. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
It does look as though further areas of low pressure into the early | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
half of next week are set to return. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
More details coming up. | 0:03:29 | 0:03:30
