Hello, there. An interesting week of weather coming up. | 0:00:02 | 0:00:05
For some of us, it's going to get wetter - | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
for others, it's going to get a good deal drier, | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
which will be good news if you're a festivalgoer - | 0:00:09 | 0:00:11
it was a rather muddy start to proceedings down in Glastonbury. | 0:00:11 | 0:00:13
I think, on balance, | 0:00:13 | 0:00:14
things will begin to dry out over the next few days, | 0:00:14 | 0:00:17
but we're not there yet, and in the short term, | 0:00:17 | 0:00:20
some torrential rain likely - | 0:00:20 | 0:00:21
to the south and east of Glastonbury, principally, | 0:00:21 | 0:00:24
the south-eastern parts of the UK. | 0:00:24 | 0:00:26
Flooding certainly possible - there are warnings in force. | 0:00:26 | 0:00:29
Be prepared for significant disruption from thunderstorms | 0:00:29 | 0:00:32
through the early part of the day. | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
They'll tend to ease off for a time, | 0:00:34 | 0:00:36
only to return, we think, later on in the day. | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
Meanwhile, at the other end of the country, | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
a much brighter affair. | 0:00:40 | 0:00:41
That said, there will be some showers | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
across Scotland, mostly out west - | 0:00:43 | 0:00:45
the best of the sunshine across the more eastern areas - | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
but we won't have the humidity here | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
which we will have further south-east. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:50
Some sharp showers heading into Northern Ireland | 0:00:50 | 0:00:53
through the afternoon, this is four o'clock, | 0:00:53 | 0:00:54
but a lot of sunshine extending from the Scottish Borders | 0:00:54 | 0:00:57
down through northern and western parts of England and Wales - | 0:00:57 | 0:01:00
and, yes, for Glastonbury, I think we'll get away with it | 0:01:00 | 0:01:02
through Thursday. | 0:01:02 | 0:01:03
Different story, though, across the south-east, | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
where, again, showers will crop up. | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
Heavy, thundery downpours, | 0:01:08 | 0:01:09
with the risk of further disruption as we go into the night - | 0:01:09 | 0:01:12
and some of these thundery downpours could well linger | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
into the early part of Friday as well, | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
before they eventually get the hint | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
and things brighten up. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:19
It'll be a different sort of day, I think, on Friday. | 0:01:19 | 0:01:21
Eventually some sunshine, most of the showers | 0:01:21 | 0:01:23
across the more northern and western parts of the UK. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
They could be quite slow-moving, with the odd rumble of thunder. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
Mid to high teens for most - | 0:01:28 | 0:01:29
one more day of relative warmth across the south and the east - | 0:01:29 | 0:01:32
but there's a significant change in the weather | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
on the broad scale over the next week or so. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
At the moment we've got the jet stream | 0:01:37 | 0:01:38
pumping warm, humid air up from France and Spain, | 0:01:38 | 0:01:41
hence the thunderstorms, | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
but, by next week, | 0:01:43 | 0:01:44
the jet stream's going to reorient itself | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
and push in from the west, | 0:01:47 | 0:01:48
and that's going to kind of return the weather back to normal, | 0:01:48 | 0:01:51
with bands of rain coming in off the Atlantic, | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
and most of the rain across the more northern and western areas. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
So, we lose humidity through this weekend. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:58
This first front's going to be straddled across the country | 0:01:58 | 0:02:01
through Saturday, so, some sharp showers around. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
Very hit and miss - | 0:02:04 | 0:02:05
you know what showers are like, | 0:02:05 | 0:02:06
some places getting quite a deluge, | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
others avoiding the showers entirely. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
Glastonbury could catch one or two of these sharp showers on Saturday. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:13
Temperatures - well, mid to high teens, typically, | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
and not as humid in the south-east as it has been. | 0:02:15 | 0:02:18
On into Sunday, | 0:02:18 | 0:02:19
and, for many parts of England and Wales, | 0:02:19 | 0:02:20
actually, a reasonable day - mostly dry and bright, | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
a weak weather front bringing some patchy rain | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
into Northern Ireland and Western Scotland. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
On into Monday, | 0:02:28 | 0:02:29
and those westerly winds continue, | 0:02:29 | 0:02:30
bringing some showers | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
into Western Scotland and Northern Ireland, principally, | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
but once more a lot of dry and bright weather | 0:02:34 | 0:02:36
further south and east for the new working week - | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
and, of course, Wimbledon starts on Monday. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
On into Tuesday, | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
it does look as if we could see a feature | 0:02:43 | 0:02:44
running in off the Atlantic to thicken up the cloud | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
and bring some more prolonged rain | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
into some northern and western areas - | 0:02:48 | 0:02:50
the exact position of this shouldn't be taken too literally, | 0:02:50 | 0:02:52
but the potential is there. | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
Drier and warmer further south and east, | 0:02:54 | 0:02:55
and that really sums up the pattern | 0:02:55 | 0:02:57
through much of next week. | 0:02:57 | 0:02:58
We have the Azores High | 0:02:58 | 0:02:59
trying to extend its influence | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
across the southern half of the UK, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
keeping the best of the dry weather here, | 0:03:03 | 0:03:05
showers further north and west | 0:03:05 | 0:03:06
will at times spread their way south-eastwards, | 0:03:06 | 0:03:08
but then retreat once more as that high pressure reasserts itself - | 0:03:08 | 0:03:12
and depending on the position of that high, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
we could get some warm air starting to push back up from the south, | 0:03:14 | 0:03:18
combating the cooler air | 0:03:18 | 0:03:19
trying to push in from the north-west, | 0:03:19 | 0:03:21
but I'm reasonably optimistic that, for Wimbledon, | 0:03:21 | 0:03:24
for the first few days, there will be plenty of play - | 0:03:24 | 0:03:26
I'm not ruling out the odd interruption. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28
See you again tomorrow. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:29
