Hello, there. An interesting week of weather coming up.

0:00:020:00:05

For some of us, it's going to get wetter -

0:00:050:00:07

for others, it's going to get a good deal drier,

0:00:070:00:09

which will be good news if you're a festivalgoer -

0:00:090:00:11

it was a rather muddy start to proceedings down in Glastonbury.

0:00:110:00:13

I think, on balance,

0:00:130:00:14

things will begin to dry out over the next few days,

0:00:140:00:17

but we're not there yet, and in the short term,

0:00:170:00:20

some torrential rain likely -

0:00:200:00:21

to the south and east of Glastonbury, principally,

0:00:210:00:24

the south-eastern parts of the UK.

0:00:240:00:26

Flooding certainly possible - there are warnings in force.

0:00:260:00:29

Be prepared for significant disruption from thunderstorms

0:00:290:00:32

through the early part of the day.

0:00:320:00:34

They'll tend to ease off for a time,

0:00:340:00:36

only to return, we think, later on in the day.

0:00:360:00:38

Meanwhile, at the other end of the country,

0:00:380:00:40

a much brighter affair.

0:00:400:00:41

That said, there will be some showers

0:00:410:00:43

across Scotland, mostly out west -

0:00:430:00:45

the best of the sunshine across the more eastern areas -

0:00:450:00:47

but we won't have the humidity here

0:00:470:00:49

which we will have further south-east.

0:00:490:00:50

Some sharp showers heading into Northern Ireland

0:00:500:00:53

through the afternoon, this is four o'clock,

0:00:530:00:54

but a lot of sunshine extending from the Scottish Borders

0:00:540:00:57

down through northern and western parts of England and Wales -

0:00:570:01:00

and, yes, for Glastonbury, I think we'll get away with it

0:01:000:01:02

through Thursday.

0:01:020:01:03

Different story, though, across the south-east,

0:01:030:01:06

where, again, showers will crop up.

0:01:060:01:08

Heavy, thundery downpours,

0:01:080:01:09

with the risk of further disruption as we go into the night -

0:01:090:01:12

and some of these thundery downpours could well linger

0:01:120:01:14

into the early part of Friday as well,

0:01:140:01:16

before they eventually get the hint

0:01:160:01:18

and things brighten up.

0:01:180:01:19

It'll be a different sort of day, I think, on Friday.

0:01:190:01:21

Eventually some sunshine, most of the showers

0:01:210:01:23

across the more northern and western parts of the UK.

0:01:230:01:25

They could be quite slow-moving, with the odd rumble of thunder.

0:01:250:01:28

Mid to high teens for most -

0:01:280:01:29

one more day of relative warmth across the south and the east -

0:01:290:01:32

but there's a significant change in the weather

0:01:320:01:35

on the broad scale over the next week or so.

0:01:350:01:37

At the moment we've got the jet stream

0:01:370:01:38

pumping warm, humid air up from France and Spain,

0:01:380:01:41

hence the thunderstorms,

0:01:410:01:43

but, by next week,

0:01:430:01:44

the jet stream's going to reorient itself

0:01:440:01:47

and push in from the west,

0:01:470:01:48

and that's going to kind of return the weather back to normal,

0:01:480:01:51

with bands of rain coming in off the Atlantic,

0:01:510:01:53

and most of the rain across the more northern and western areas.

0:01:530:01:56

So, we lose humidity through this weekend.

0:01:560:01:58

This first front's going to be straddled across the country

0:01:580:02:01

through Saturday, so, some sharp showers around.

0:02:010:02:04

Very hit and miss -

0:02:040:02:05

you know what showers are like,

0:02:050:02:06

some places getting quite a deluge,

0:02:060:02:08

others avoiding the showers entirely.

0:02:080:02:10

Glastonbury could catch one or two of these sharp showers on Saturday.

0:02:100:02:13

Temperatures - well, mid to high teens, typically,

0:02:130:02:15

and not as humid in the south-east as it has been.

0:02:150:02:18

On into Sunday,

0:02:180:02:19

and, for many parts of England and Wales,

0:02:190:02:20

actually, a reasonable day - mostly dry and bright,

0:02:200:02:23

a weak weather front bringing some patchy rain

0:02:230:02:25

into Northern Ireland and Western Scotland.

0:02:250:02:28

On into Monday,

0:02:280:02:29

and those westerly winds continue,

0:02:290:02:30

bringing some showers

0:02:300:02:32

into Western Scotland and Northern Ireland, principally,

0:02:320:02:34

but once more a lot of dry and bright weather

0:02:340:02:36

further south and east for the new working week -

0:02:360:02:39

and, of course, Wimbledon starts on Monday.

0:02:390:02:41

On into Tuesday,

0:02:410:02:43

it does look as if we could see a feature

0:02:430:02:44

running in off the Atlantic to thicken up the cloud

0:02:440:02:46

and bring some more prolonged rain

0:02:460:02:48

into some northern and western areas -

0:02:480:02:50

the exact position of this shouldn't be taken too literally,

0:02:500:02:52

but the potential is there.

0:02:520:02:54

Drier and warmer further south and east,

0:02:540:02:55

and that really sums up the pattern

0:02:550:02:57

through much of next week.

0:02:570:02:58

We have the Azores High

0:02:580:02:59

trying to extend its influence

0:02:590:03:01

across the southern half of the UK,

0:03:010:03:03

keeping the best of the dry weather here,

0:03:030:03:05

showers further north and west

0:03:050:03:06

will at times spread their way south-eastwards,

0:03:060:03:08

but then retreat once more as that high pressure reasserts itself -

0:03:080:03:12

and depending on the position of that high,

0:03:120:03:14

we could get some warm air starting to push back up from the south,

0:03:140:03:18

combating the cooler air

0:03:180:03:19

trying to push in from the north-west,

0:03:190:03:21

but I'm reasonably optimistic that, for Wimbledon,

0:03:210:03:24

for the first few days, there will be plenty of play -

0:03:240:03:26

I'm not ruling out the odd interruption.

0:03:260:03:28

See you again tomorrow.
