03/08/2016 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello. A change of weather month unfortunately

hasn't brought a change of weather type.

We closed out July with a jet stream

that was oscillating to north and south,

briefly flirting with us,

allowing some Azores high warmth

across England and Wales,

only to dip back south again

to allow low pressures

and a fresher feel across

the country.

Then returning very briefly

but it stayed pretty unsettled,

with no signs of any significant

summer sunshine and warmth for all.

And you can see that, actually,

during Tuesday's weather.

Quite a lot of cloud across the country,

with another area of low pressure

starting to move in.

You can see the curl of cloud

circulating around that low,

and that's going to be with us

on Wednesday,

bringing some wet and

unseasonably windy weather conditions

with it for a time,

but still a south-westerly flow,

dragging up some of that Azores warmth.

So, a humid feel to things.

And with some sunshine

across England and Wales,

actually, temperatures will respond

quite nicely, but gale-force gusts,

unusual for this time of year,

on exposed, west-facing coasts,

with outbreaks of rain for a time

in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

A disappointing day here.

Slowly but surely,

that area of low pressure

will drift its way steadily east

off into the North Sea,

and the winds will

start to swing round to

a north-westerly direction,

so it will start to introduce

a slightly fresher feel.

It'll take its time.

Still a mild night

and a mild start to Thursday morning,

but as the winds swing round to

a north-westerly during Thursday,

we should actually lose some of that humidity.

And Thursday will be

a much more straightforward day -

sunny spells and scattered showers,

and in the sunshine

it will feel quite promising,

so a good day of usable weather

is how we like to describe it.

And in terms of the feel of things,

I think for many of us,

we're looking at high teens

into Scotland.

23 degrees in the south-east corner.

As we move towards Friday,

a brief ridge of

high pressure will build

and quieten the weather story down yet again.

But all the time you can see

the areas of low pressure

waiting in the wings.

So, a brief respite.

The best of the sunshine and the

best of the drier weather on Friday

is likely to be to the north and west,

with a scattering of showers

close to those east coasts.

Highest values, again,

of 23 degrees.

There's a level of uncertainty as

we move towards the weekend,

with areas of low pressure

influencing the far north-west,

but again, that Azores high

trying to squeeze in,

influencing the weather story,

and that could, again,

see a return to some pretty

humid weather conditions

across England and Wales,

with the mid-20s returning.

Wet and windy weather,

some of it really significant,

into the far north and west.

Sunday should be a quieter day,

hopefully, but it does look as

though it'll be a largely fine day,

with 15 to 24 degrees the high.

So we start the early half

of next week with that warmth,

with the jet stream

sitting across the central half

of the country,

but it doesn't look as though

it is going to last, unfortunately.

Yet again, the jet stream will

oscillate its way south

and allow a slightly fresher

feel with low pressures to

dominate across the UK.

It has to be said,

there is a great deal

of uncertainty about the

weather story through the middle

to the end of next week,

but one thing is certainly certain -

it stays pretty unsettled.

It will feel cooler than of late

but it does look as though

if we're going to see

the driest weather,

it's likely to be in the south.
