02/09/2016 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello. We'll get onto the weather here in the UK, but first of all,

we're going to start off on the other side of the Atlantic.

We have tropical storm Hermine.

It's in the Gulf of Mexico,

but it's making steady progress towards the north-west of Florida,

it may achieve hurricane status before it makes landfall.

If it does so, it'll be the first hurricane to hit Florida

in 11 years.

Either way, we're going to see a storm surge around the coast

and there's going to be some flooding rain and some very

strong winds moving their way across the heavily populated

south-eastern corner of the United States.

That is one to watch over the next few days.

Much quieter back on our shores to end the week.

We've got this weather front slipping its way slowly southwards

and eastwards, bringing a lot of cloud,

not a great deal of rain, but there will be some to go with that.

Maybe some low cloud around

the coasts and the hills in the south-west.

Bit of rain drifts its way to East Anglia and the south-east,

but through the afternoon, that rain becomes very light and patchy

and it starts to brighten up in Wales.

Much of northern England doing well in the afternoon.

Sunny spells and showers in Northern Ireland and Scotland,

those showers coming in on the breeze from the west.

19 degrees in Aberdeen, not so bad.

Might get 20 or 21 in the London area.

Through Friday evening, it's dry for most places.

There'll still be a few showers dotted around in the north

and west of the UK, but towards the end of the night, we look

towards the south-west for the next batch of rain to spread our way.

Saturday looks like the wettest of the two days of the weekend.

Sunday looks like a vast improvement.

Saturday's rain - question marks about the northern extent of it.

But, it looks like it will be coming into the

south-west on a bit of a breeze quite early on Saturday morning.

Then it makes pretty steady progress across much of the rest of

England and Wales through the afternoon and on into the evening.

Some of that rain could be quite heavy and the breeze will be

quite noticeable towards the south-west, in particular.

Further north, sunny spells and a scattering of showers, although

there might be some wetter weather at times in Northern Ireland.

But that wet weather moves ever eastwards Saturday night,

so that by Sunday, actually,

many places are enjoying a vastly improved day with sunny spells,

one or two showers dotted around,

but a lot of dry and bright weather to be had.

18 degrees in Glasgow and Belfast.

Highs of 21 and 22 in the south-eastern corner.

Then in the early part of the new week,

we've got this big low to the north-west of us.

Its weather fronts will be pushing their way into the north

and west of the UK with a bit of a breeze.

A noticeable breeze for Scotland and Northern Ireland, in particular,

with some cloud and outbreaks of rain.

But most of England and Wales have a reasonable day

with the brightest conditions the further east you are.

Quite warm as well - 18 degrees in Glasgow, 22 or 23 in London.

Now, through Tuesday,

the big picture sees an area of low pressure to the west of us,

high pressure to the east, and, yes, we've still got the resultant

southerly wind blowing up across the UK.

So that's good news because it's going to keep those temperatures

quite respectable as we get on into the middle part of next week.

We don't see a huge change in the pressure pattern,

we've still got that high to the east of the UK

and this low towards the north and west.

You can just see those orange tones spreading their way ever

northwards across the north of Scotland.

So we'll all be seeing some pretty reasonable temperatures.

But later on next week,

both of our weather systems drift a little bit further northwards.

The closer you are to that low in the north-west,

you might see a bit of rain.

But the majority will just see some fine and settled weather, the high

really dominating, and it's still dragging in that southerly breeze.

So with the high dominating,

a lot of settled weather into the latter part of next week,

and quite warm as well with that southerly breeze and very

little rain to speak of,

unless you're in the far north-west close to that low,

but most of us are looking at a lot of dry and quite warm weather.
