Hello. We're going to start with a look at the weather in | 0:00:02 | 0:00:05
the United States, because we saw what was Hurricane Hermine | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
make its way across northern Florida. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
It's covered a large area, and it's expected to move out | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
into the Atlantic through the second part of the weekend. | 0:00:12 | 0:00:14
It's a tropical storm now, but it may well reinvigorate itself | 0:00:14 | 0:00:18
over the warm waters of the North Atlantic, and it may | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
even curve back towards the north-east of the United States. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
So that certainly is one to watch over the next few days. | 0:00:23 | 0:00:27
Meanwhile, back on our shores, | 0:00:27 | 0:00:29
it was a pretty miserable start to the weekend, | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
with some heavy rain for many, | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
but thankfully that weather system is moving ever southwards | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
and eastwards, and the second part of the weekend looks a lot better. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:39
We've got this ridge of high pressure which will be dominant | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
for our weather, so some dry weather for many | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
but not a completely dry second part to the weekend. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
We've still got that low in the North Sea on Sunday, | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
and there's a bit of a breeze around that and outbreaks of | 0:00:49 | 0:00:52
rain becoming light and patchy before some showers | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
get going across northern and eastern areas into the afternoon. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:57
Even here there'll be spells of sunshine between those showers. | 0:00:57 | 0:01:00
The further south and west you go, | 0:01:00 | 0:01:01
for the most part it's a largely dry afternoon, | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
18 or so degrees in Belfast, 19 in Cardiff, | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
21 or 22 degrees in the south-eastern corner. | 0:01:06 | 0:01:09
Through the evening, those showers in the north and the east fade away, | 0:01:09 | 0:01:12
and then we look out west for the next weather system to head | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
our way, and that's going to bring some rain and | 0:01:15 | 0:01:17
a bit of a breeze, as well. It's down to this weather system. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
And as you can see, a fair number of isobars on the chart, so, yes, | 0:01:20 | 0:01:24
another spell of wind and rain from the Atlantic to start the new week. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:28
That rain is trying to push its way eastwards, | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
but I suspect much of eastern England will stay essentially | 0:01:30 | 0:01:33
dry for much of the day. | 0:01:33 | 0:01:34
Elsewhere, the rain becomes very light and patchy, | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
but it could well be quite a grey day, quite a lot of cloud sitting | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
down on the hills, particularly across these western areas, | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
but also increasingly humid through the day on Monday, | 0:01:42 | 0:01:46
high teens or the low 20s quite widely. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
And that's really the headline for the coming week, that temperatures | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
are on the rise, and we are going to see temperatures getting | 0:01:52 | 0:01:56
widely into the low to middle, possibly even the upper 20s. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
It may well be a slow start on Tuesday, | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
with some patches of mist, fog and low cloud, | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
but a lot of that will disappear, and then into the afternoon most | 0:02:04 | 0:02:07
places are fine and dry and quite warm, | 0:02:07 | 0:02:10
even 20 degrees into the north of Scotland. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:11
A little rain to be had in Northern Ireland and the west of Scotland. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:15
That's from this weather front, working its way north | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
through the middle of the week. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
We've got a low to the west of us, a high to the east, | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
and the resultant wind is a southerly breeze, | 0:02:21 | 0:02:24
and that's bringing in that very warm air from the near Continent. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
Again on Wednesday, it might be a slow start for some, | 0:02:27 | 0:02:29
with some mist and low cloud, but come the afternoon, | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
it's patchy cloud, sunny spells, and the warmth will be really | 0:02:31 | 0:02:35
quite widespread, 25 degrees in the London area, | 0:02:35 | 0:02:37
and feeling quite humid, as well. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
Now, as we get on into Thursday, | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
this weather front will bring a little bit of rain with it as | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
it crosses the UK but it will also begin to drop that humidity, | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
at least temporarily. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:48
But later on in the week, we are looking at | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
a low to the north and west of us, a high to the east of us. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:54
As they drift their way northwards, | 0:02:54 | 0:02:55
in closer proximity to that low in the north-west of the UK, | 0:02:55 | 0:02:59
we'll see more of a breeze, maybe some rain at times, | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
but the resultant wind is still a southerly breeze, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
and that's going to take us on into the weekend and beyond, as well. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:08
So we are expecting to see some pretty high temperatures, | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
particularly in the south and the east, | 0:03:11 | 0:03:12
but I suspect it'll be quite warm for most of us. | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
So as we end next week and look into the weekend as well, | 0:03:15 | 0:03:18
we keep the southerly breeze. It's going to stay warm. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
The warmth will be quite widespread. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:22
Away from that low in the north-west of the United Kingdom, | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
elsewhere most of us are looking at | 0:03:25 | 0:03:26
a lot of fine and dry weather. Bye for now. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28
It's carnival time here for Great Britain! | 0:03:31 | 0:03:33
He's there! | 0:03:36 | 0:03:37
He really is one of the greatest of all time. | 0:03:37 | 0:03:40
What a summer. | 0:03:41 | 0:03:43 |
