It's been a good week for getting out and enjoying the autumn colours,

0:00:020:00:05

especially where you've been lucky enough to see occasional sunshine.

0:00:050:00:08

Lovely view from one of our Weather Watchers on Friday

0:00:080:00:10

in the grounds of Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.

0:00:100:00:13

Beautiful colours on show.

0:00:130:00:15

And each day this week, if you've had a bit of sunshine,

0:00:150:00:17

temperatures have been as high as around 18 Celsius.

0:00:170:00:20

Of course, that's well above average for this stage of October.

0:00:200:00:23

And the mild weather will stay with us through the weekend

0:00:230:00:25

into the very first part of next week.

0:00:250:00:28

The air is coming around this area of high pressure

0:00:280:00:30

from the west, south-west.

0:00:300:00:32

It is bringing quite a lot moisture our way through the weekend,

0:00:320:00:35

and it's not necessarily in the way of rain,

0:00:350:00:37

but plenty of cloud coming our way,

0:00:370:00:39

so sunshine will be harder to come by.

0:00:390:00:41

The colours show the type of air, the air mass,

0:00:410:00:43

the temperature of the air rather than the sunshine on offer.

0:00:430:00:46

The blue's indicating the colder air

0:00:460:00:48

to the north and north-west of the UK,

0:00:480:00:50

and it looks like some of this will filter southwards

0:00:500:00:53

across the UK next week,

0:00:530:00:54

and we'll look at that in just a moment.

0:00:540:00:57

First of all, though, let's take you through the weekend weather.

0:00:570:00:59

A foggy start in places on Saturday morning, hill fog in the west,

0:00:590:01:03

low-level fog patches elsewhere in England and Wales.

0:01:030:01:06

Western hills throughout the weekend

0:01:060:01:08

could see some occasional drizzle at times.

0:01:080:01:10

East is best, or most favoured,

0:01:100:01:13

for the chance of getting a bit of sunshine occasionally.

0:01:130:01:15

Probably going to see the highest temperatures too.

0:01:150:01:18

It's on the mild side wherever you are, and light winds as well.

0:01:180:01:21

Now, there is a weather front approaching from the Atlantic

0:01:210:01:24

as we go through Saturday night and into Sunday.

0:01:240:01:26

What that means for Northern Ireland and Scotland,

0:01:260:01:29

a bit of a change,

0:01:290:01:30

there will be some outbreaks of rain around,

0:01:300:01:32

patchy in nature, coming and going, not all of us will see them,

0:01:320:01:34

but there's potential for seeing some heavier bursts.

0:01:340:01:37

But we're more likely to see in the way of sunshine

0:01:370:01:39

reaching parts of south-east England on Sunday.

0:01:390:01:42

Sunday is Diwali, the festival of light.

0:01:420:01:45

Sunset, an hour earlier on Sunday,

0:01:450:01:47

which probably suits a festival of lights.

0:01:470:01:49

Don't forget, of course, the clocks going back on Saturday night

0:01:490:01:52

to lead to that early sunset.

0:01:520:01:54

And then on Monday, we're still watching this weather front

0:01:540:01:56

to the north-west of the UK.

0:01:560:01:58

It's behind that we're eventually going to see

0:01:580:02:00

some cooler air filtering in.

0:02:000:02:01

Not moving very much on Monday, so it looks like

0:02:010:02:03

Scotland and Northern Ireland close to that.

0:02:030:02:05

Again, some of us will see some outbreaks of rain.

0:02:050:02:08

But for parts of England and Wales,

0:02:080:02:09

a slightly sunnier picture than we had over the weekend.

0:02:090:02:12

Now, into Tuesday,

0:02:120:02:14

our weather front is beginning to slip its way southwards.

0:02:140:02:16

Of course, with that, there will be cloud

0:02:160:02:18

and some outbreaks of rain, but probably patchy in nature.

0:02:180:02:21

But across the northern half of the UK, notice a change?

0:02:210:02:24

Yes, temperatures are coming down, cooler areas filtering in.

0:02:240:02:27

But it's a sunnier picture too.

0:02:270:02:29

So the change taking place

0:02:290:02:31

as we go through Tuesday into Wednesday.

0:02:310:02:33

Dislodging the mild air,

0:02:330:02:35

getting something colder coming our way.

0:02:350:02:37

Not terribly cold, though.

0:02:370:02:38

It's just bringing temperatures down

0:02:380:02:40

closer to where we should expect them to be at this time of year,

0:02:400:02:43

or closer to average, if you like.

0:02:430:02:45

By Wednesday, the leading edge of that cooler air

0:02:450:02:48

somewhere in southern England,

0:02:480:02:49

a bit of uncertainty about how quickly it's going to clear away

0:02:490:02:52

and allow that cooler air to come in.

0:02:520:02:54

But, of course, that is the most significant change

0:02:540:02:56

in next week's weather.

0:02:560:02:58

A dip in temperatures, closer to average.

0:02:580:03:00

There'll be sunshine with that dip,

0:03:000:03:02

but also some showers around.

0:03:020:03:03

Perhaps wintry on the hills of Scotland,

0:03:030:03:06

perhaps into Northern England as well.

0:03:060:03:08

And a breezier picture for a time,

0:03:080:03:10

especially down the eastern side of the UK.

0:03:100:03:12

Looking a little further ahead into November,

0:03:120:03:14

we're expecting temperatures to be at or maybe slightly below average

0:03:140:03:18

during the first part of November,

0:03:180:03:20

but looking less likely than usual at this time of year,

0:03:200:03:23

deep areas of low pressure with strong winds,

0:03:230:03:26

which means getting out and enjoying those autumn colours.

0:03:260:03:28

Yeah, still looking good.
