This is a story about a girl. She came from nowhere. And she became

Pakistan's social media superstar. Happy Valentine's Day. Her name was

Qandeel Baloch. Her highly provocative videos

shocked many in Pakistan. But brought her fame. On the 15th of

July, 2016... Qandeel was killed by her brother, because in his eyes,

she had brought shame on the family. Her parents want justice for their

daughter. Nearly 1000 women are killed in

Pakistan every year in the name of honour. Like Qandeel, I am a young

Pakistani woman. Does her life and death change anything for women in

my country? This village in rural Punjab is

where Qandeel's story begins. Driving through the streets, I can't

imagine the name Qandeel we knew living here. Here, women stay at

home and are rarely seen. This is the house where she grew up.

Muhammad Azeem, her father, was a farmer. And her mother, and while it

is in -- Anwar Azeem, a Hasluck. She had six brothers and two sisters. --

housebuyer. -- house wife. She spent her childhood inside this room.

It was not long after this photo was taken that, in keeping with local

tradition, Qandeel was married. But her marriage only lasted a year. As

I looked around, I try to imagine the courage it took to leave this

place, taking those first rave steps knowing you were breaking every

social norm and taboo -- brave. After her divorce in 2007, Qandeel

settled in Multan, a city couple of hours drive from the village,

working as a hostess for a bus company, and then in marketing for a

It was also around this time that Qandeel started making videos for

social media. For Pakistan, the videos were provocative and daring.

But her dream was to make it into the mainstream. Like so many other

girls, trying to break into the scene, the reality was anything but

glamorous. To earn money, Qandeel was probably working as an escort.

The money supported her family, and she could afford to move her parents

to Multan. Her parents wanted to show me the house in which she was

murdered. This is a lawyer from the village, and he is helping them for

free. On the night of the murder,

Qandeel's younger brother was seen driving from the village to Multan,

allegedly with two compasses. After the family meal, he mixed sleeping

pills with milk, which the whole family join. He waited for the pills

to kick in, and when his parents went to bed, he pledged his alleged

accomplice, and together they entered Qandeel's room, and killed

her. Multan police are investigating

Qandeel's murder. This is the police officer leading the investigation.

She was one of the first people at the crime scene, and accompanied the

body to the mob. -- morgue. A few years before her death, and as

her ambition grew, net left Multan for Karachi, and during the height

of Pakistan's entertainment industry. Her appearance on Pakistan

Idol thrust her into the limelight. Even though she did not win, she was

an instant hit. She became a regular on national television, promoting

her brand. It was on one chat show she met a

well-known celebrity cleric who was also from Multan. The two floated on

camera. The mufti suggested that they meet next time he was in

Karachi. A few weeks later, during the holy

month of Ramadan, Qandeel Baloch met the mufti in a hotel in Karachi. It

was during this meeting that she took a number of Sophie 's -- them.

In one, she was wearing the mufti's out. This one in particular caused a

media storm -- hat. It spread like wildfire. Soon she and the mufti

were everywhere. In the fallout, the mufti was suspended from his job

with Pakistan's religious council. For her brother, Waseem, the media

intrusion was the final straw. But why were those selfies with the

mufti so controversial? A month after the selfies appeared,

Qandeel was killed. How much did the photos with the mufti contribute to

her murder? I went to meet him at his new address in Multan. Make sure

I look decent -- segment. He comes from a family of clerics who have

lived in the city for generations -- madrasa. To the locals, he is a

revered and respected religious scholar.

The fact that Abdul Oavi was related to the man who allegedly drew her

brother to the murder scene was drawing a lot of attention.

Mufti Oavi wanted to make it clear that anyone who disrespected the

clergy in Pakistan as Qandeel had done could face serious

consequences. Nothing Mufti Abdul Qavi said really

surprised me. He said that he had nothing to do with Qandeel's murder.

For him, it was an act of God. 1000 women die each year from honour

crimes here in Pakistan. A bill being debated in Parliament is

looking to put an end to honour crimes once and for all. It will

take away the rights of the family to forgive the killer.

I wanted to talk to Qandeel's father about her concerns. Today he will

testify in a bail hearing of two of the alleged accomplices, the driver

and the man it was claimed helped planet. He hasn't visited his son

Waseem in jail, but some relatives have.

Many honour crimes from rural areas never come to trial. Their deaths

are often reported as suicide or accidents. The day after the selfies

with Mufti Abdul Qavi were released, Qandeel appeared on one of the most

popular talk shows in Pakistan. Qandeel and Mufti Abdul Qavi

continued to argue. And for the producer, it was television gold,

extending it to 90 minutes. This broadcast further inflamed the

situation. What were you hoping or thinking would transpire? What did

you want to uncover? When you are an investigative journalist you are

trying to get to the bottom of everything, no matter how trivial it

is. That was the story of the day. My initial thought was that one of

them is lying and one of them is misleading the public for fake

publicity. And I wanted to find out which one. Did you ever think this

would put Qandeel's life in danger? If I had any inclination of that I

would not have done the show. The media is hugely concerned about

this. I don't know. I think that is a sweeping statement. I have a job

to do. Am I responsible? I am an investigative journalist. There are

stories that are unique that need to be solved. That doesn't make it

right or wrong. That is the job I do. He is too good. Oh my god. I

can't believe it. During the selfie video, Qandeel mentioned for the

first time that she was from Multan. Armed with this information, the

local Multani press swung into action. A few days later, details of

Qandeel's personal life started appearing everywhere. Her real name,

her passport, the families details, the fact that she had a child from

her first marriage. Everything was made public. -- family's. Daily

Pakistan, a Multan-based newspaper, is where details were first

revealed. This man was the man responsible.

As the media pressure intensified, Qandeel became increasingly worried

about her safety. Two weeks before she was murdered,

she asked the authorities for protection. But her request was

ignored. Qandeel's parents are back at the

village and they have had some bad news. One of Waseem's accomplices

has been granted bail and has moved back to the village.

They are still waiting for the trial of Waseem and the three alleged

accomplices to begin. As the world looked on, Qandeel was

buried in her home village. None of her friends made the journey.

CRYING. In a non-descript patch of land lies Qandeel's body, marked

only by two Pakistani flags. To many outside Pakistan, Qandeel was a

feminist, a revolutionary, but the many Pakistanis, she was

controversial. To her parents, she will always be there Bulava

daughter. -- their beloved daughter. The Anti Honour Crime Bill was

passed in 2016. The hope is that this will stop those killed for

honour getting away with murder. The weekend weather carrying
