Evans -- For this year's Children in Need Appeal, Sophie took some | :08:06. | :08:16.
:08:16. | :08:19. | ||
time out of her busy schedule and travelled down the M4 to West Wales. | :08:19. | :08:23.
I am here at Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen, to meet a very special | :08:23. | :08:26.
little girl called Eloise. Hello! Hello. Eloise has to come into | :08:26. | :08:29.
hospital every few weeks for treatment. The nurses here give | :08:29. | :08:32.
Eloise antibiotics and other medications to keep her free from | :08:32. | :08:42.
:08:42. | :08:44. | ||
life-threatening infections. When Eloise was born, she very quickly | :08:44. | :08:52.
developed symptoms of cystic fibrosis. | :08:52. | :08:55.
For Eloise, this means staying in hospital for weeks at a time, but | :08:55. | :09:00.
as a welcome distraction, this happens. | :09:00. | :09:07.
Are you ready for some magic? Craig Lewis is a professional | :09:07. | :09:15.
magician and entertainer. Children in Need helps pay for Craig to | :09:15. | :09:17.
visit hospitals and wings, taking children's minds off their | :09:17. | :09:27.
:09:27. | :09:28. | ||
illnesses. When he comes in, she has a big | :09:28. | :09:33.
smile on her face and she loves the animals he makes. It makes a big | :09:33. | :09:37.
difference and it takes away some of the boredom and some of the play | :09:37. | :09:41.
-- and some of the things she has to have done to her. | :09:41. | :09:44.
It's a small thing, but for children like Eloise, it makes a | :09:44. | :09:47.
big difference. Just one example of how your donations to Children in | :09:47. | :09:57.

appropriate for Children In Need. This next film shows where the | :16:37. | :16:47.

Well, you may be wondering what is going on, I have no idea either but | :16:49. | :16:52.
it seems like fun. This is Circus Eruption, a group which gets | :16:52. | :17:00.
funding from Children In Need. The things that happen here at the | :17:00. | :17:03.
Dylan Thomas Community School in Swansea are truly amazing. Josh was | :17:03. | :17:05.
born with a unique genetic condition which means he has severe | :17:05. | :17:08.
learning difficulties and struggles with speech and language. But here, | :17:08. | :17:11.
everyone concentrates on what they can do and not what they can't. How | :17:11. | :17:15.
has this group changed Josh? It has made him more outgoing, he loves | :17:15. | :17:22.
coming. He has gone from an insular boy to one who is making friends. | :17:22. | :17:25.
He is having a go at things that he would never have done without the | :17:26. | :17:35.

circus. Have you seen a big change in Josh? He has become more | :17:37. | :17:41.
confident and he has gone up to people in the shops and stuff and | :17:41. | :17:44.
said, can you help me with this? is more confident around other | :17:44. | :17:49.
people. I have been totally blown away by the young people and the | :17:49. | :17:57.
dedication of the volunteers here tonight. But there is a waiting | :17:57. | :18:01.
list for groups like this because of a lack of funding, but with your | :18:01. | :18:04.
help, many more places could be made available, so please, it | :18:04. | :18:14.
:18:14. | :18:16. | ||
really does make a big difference. Thank you, what a great project. Do | :18:16. | :18:23.

# Like a bridge over troubled water I think all of us would agree that | :32:13. | :32:16.
childhood should be a special time, free from worry or responsibility. | :32:16. | :32:20.
But I want to tell you about some children who live in Wales who | :32:20. | :32:24.
don't have what most of us would call a normal childhood. This is | :32:24. | :32:27.
Wrexham and the children here are taking part in a group organised by | :32:27. | :32:30.
Barnardo's and funded by Children in Need. The children are all young | :32:30. | :32:33.
carers and today, quite rightly, they are dressed up as superheroes. | :32:33. | :32:36.
Because that is just what they are, heroes caring for others, sometimes | :32:36. | :32:43.
for up to 50 hours a week. It might involve caring for parents with a | :32:43. | :32:46.
disability or an illness, but some of these children care for parents | :32:46. | :32:49.
who can't look after themselves, through substance misuse or alcohol | :32:49. | :32:58.
abuse. So this group is fun, but it is also doing a vital job in a lot | :32:58. | :33:02.
of other ways. And if things do get more difficult at home, the kids | :33:02. | :33:08.
can receive the help that they and their families desperately need. | :33:08. | :33:10.
Your donations really help, because they keep activities like the one | :33:11. | :33:14.
in Wrexham going, and the children can forget about caring for a few | :33:14. | :33:24.
:33:24. | :33:25. | ||
hours a week, and hopefully get back some of their childhood. | :33:25. | :33:28.

I live quite near here and I have driven down this road loads of | :50:24. | :50:27.
times. But until now, I have never noticed this place. This is Inroads | :50:27. | :50:30.
Street Drugs Project and I'm meeting up with Ross, whose job is | :50:30. | :50:33.
entirely funded by Children In Need. He wanted me to meet someone we're | :50:33. | :50:36.
going to call Scott. When Scott first came here he had big problems | :50:36. | :50:40.
at home and at school and he was using some pretty dangerous drugs. | :50:40. | :50:43.
14, 15 years old, that is when it started going wrong, when I started | :50:43. | :50:51.
drinking and smoking weed and stuff. The teachers said they saw a sudden | :50:51. | :50:54.
change in the way I was. My motivation in life, my aggression. | :50:54. | :51:00.
My mum, she was ashamed of me. Things came to a head when Scott | :51:00. | :51:05.
got in trouble with the police. desperate family member brought him | :51:05. | :51:09.
here to Inroads. Scott came here in crisis so he was in quite a bad | :51:09. | :51:13.
emotional state when he came in, so it was about calming him down and | :51:13. | :51:18.
establishing a relationship of trust. I think he knew some of the | :51:18. | :51:21.
risks but not all, and some of the substances he was using are quite | :51:21. | :51:29.
dangerous. Ross helped Scott out of a very dark place by being a good | :51:29. | :51:32.
listener and discussing the sorts of problems that using drugs can | :51:32. | :51:35.
bring. Thankfully things are looking up. Just getting along in | :51:36. | :51:40.
school and stuff. All of my teachers think I am a new student. | :51:40. | :51:46.
My life at home is different. My mum and dad say they have their old | :51:46. | :51:51.
son back. You are back in with them now? Yes, I am back in with my | :51:51. | :51:55.
parents. Without your donations, Ross would not be here doing this | :51:55. | :51:58.
vital work and Scott would almost certainly still be in that dark | :51:58. | :52:08.
:52:08. | :52:18. | ||
place. So, every penny you can give, We have been told at BBC newsreader | :52:18. | :52:24.
