Ladies and gentlemen, we have an Apprentice first. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
There has never in the history of the show been more than one winner. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:11
Never until now. I'm Rhod Gilbert. | 0:00:11 | 0:00:13
Welcome to The Apprentice: You're Hired And You're Hired As Well. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:17
Unbelievably, Lord Sugar has doubled his investment and agreed to pay | 0:00:17 | 0:00:20
out a total of £500,000 to Sarah and James as his new business partners. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:26
It was a stressful few days for our two finalists | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
and the mood in both camps was very, very serious. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:32
Merge them together and "Connect-it". | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
The only thing I would say is, like, do you know when you put it | 0:00:34 | 0:00:36
all together and then, look at that, | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
you've got, like, "TIT". I just don't... | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
In the studio tonight, we'll be meeting both winners and finding | 0:00:43 | 0:00:46
out from Lord Sugar first-hand why he made this historic decision. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:50
Plus I'll be remembering some of the good, the bad and the lovely | 0:00:50 | 0:00:53
moments from this year's series, with help from all the candidates. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:57
To help me sort out the wheat from the other wheat, | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
I need a panel of Apprentice fans and guests and I've got one. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:03
So, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome, Apprentice uberfan, | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
comedian Russell Kane, the one and only Karren Brady | 0:01:06 | 0:01:09
and the equally unique Mr Claude Littner! | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11
-Hello, again. -Good to see you. -Mr Littner. -All right. -Welcome. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:21
So, Claude, Claude, I'll come to you first. I can hardly believe my ears. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:30
Lord Sugar's gone and hired them both. Did you have a hand in this? | 0:01:30 | 0:01:33
Well, I didn't have a hand in it exactly, | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
but I'm very, very pleased with the outcome. I think it's brilliant. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
Good. Karren? Lord Sugar's got to stump up £500,000. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
Are you going to have to lend him a bit? | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
Oh, no, ha-ha-ha, I think he's going to be fine on that front. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:46
You know what Alan loves, he loves investing in people, | 0:01:46 | 0:01:48
he loves investing in business. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
He believes so passionately in giving people a chance and he | 0:01:50 | 0:01:53
saw two young people and he couldn't tear himself between the two | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
of them so he's going to back them both and good for him. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
Fair enough. Russell, I know you're a massive Apprentice fan, | 0:01:59 | 0:02:02
-been watching it for years. WTF? -I know. -HLSGB? | 0:02:02 | 0:02:06
-Has Lord Sugar gone bonkers? -It was a mic drop. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
I thought a microphone was going to come up from behind the desk | 0:02:09 | 0:02:11
and he was just going to drop it and drop 500 large ones. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
It's the best result, though, isn't it? | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
The show's about recruitment, Lord Sugar's named after a sweet. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
He had to hire both of them. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:20
It's the best... I think James' middle parting in Fashion Week | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
was a metaphor for how the show was going to finish. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:27
So, much more to come but first, for the last time this series, | 0:02:28 | 0:02:32
let's see what's made the Apprentice News. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
Team GB rejects accusations | 0:02:37 | 0:02:38
of athletes taking performance-reducing drugs. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:41
James is unsure when Joanna advises him | 0:02:45 | 0:02:48
to wear a bikini for his big pitch. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:50
I've done a pageant before and it really makes a difference. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
Claude explains to Lord Sugar how he chooses | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
between a madras and a vindaloo. | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
The truth is, Alan, in the end, your gut tells you everything. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:04
And that was tonight's Apprentice News. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
Now, I don't know if I've mentioned it, but we have an historic | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
Apprentice moment on our hands, a win-win, no loser, double win. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
A win that's a draw and a win all at the same time. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:19
Here's the moment Lord Sugar took us all by surprise. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
Not least James and Sarah. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:24
Um, I'm going to say... | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29
..that I'm a gambler... | 0:03:33 | 0:03:36
..and I've always been a gambler in business. | 0:03:36 | 0:03:38
This particular year... | 0:03:41 | 0:03:42
..I'm going to double my investment | 0:03:45 | 0:03:47
and I'm going to start a business with both of you. | 0:03:47 | 0:03:50
Thank you. | 0:03:52 | 0:03:54
Please welcome Apprentice 2017 winners James White and Sarah Lynn. | 0:03:54 | 0:03:58
Sarah, good to meet you. Congratulations, James. | 0:04:03 | 0:04:07
Thank you, thank you. | 0:04:07 | 0:04:08
-Part of Apprentice history, Sarah? -Oh, it's incredible. | 0:04:08 | 0:04:12
It is just the best feeling, the best outcome. | 0:04:12 | 0:04:14
-It's a dream come true. -Yeah. | 0:04:14 | 0:04:15
-Were you surprised, James, when you both won? -Yeah. | 0:04:15 | 0:04:17
Yeah, I was very surprised, but I couldn't win with someone | 0:04:17 | 0:04:20
better, so a good outcome all round, right? | 0:04:20 | 0:04:22
Right. And we need to speak to both of you, obviously, but I'm going to | 0:04:22 | 0:04:26
follow Lord Sugar's example, how we choose who we speak to first. | 0:04:26 | 0:04:30
-So, James, you call it. -Heads. -Sorry, ladies first. | 0:04:30 | 0:04:34
All right, let's run it again. | 0:04:39 | 0:04:41
James, you call. | 0:04:41 | 0:04:43
-Karren, you call it. -Uh, heads. | 0:04:45 | 0:04:47
It is heads. We'll talk to Sarah first. | 0:04:47 | 0:04:50
James, into the audience, off you go. | 0:04:50 | 0:04:53
We'll speak to you later. | 0:04:53 | 0:04:55
So, Sarah. Part of Apprentice history, how does it feel? | 0:04:57 | 0:05:02
-You happy? -Oh, it's just... It's incredible. I'm speechless. | 0:05:02 | 0:05:06
-It's so, so good. -Don't be speechless tonight. | 0:05:06 | 0:05:08
You can't be speechless. Can't be speechless, we need to talk to you. | 0:05:08 | 0:05:10
I'm told I need to speak up, so, yeah, it's incredible. | 0:05:10 | 0:05:13
I'm so happy and so proud and privileged to be a part of it | 0:05:13 | 0:05:15
-and just cannot wait to get started now. -You got emotional in the final. | 0:05:15 | 0:05:19
We haven't seen a huge amount of emotion from you throughout | 0:05:19 | 0:05:22
the series, but in the final, you sort of... | 0:05:22 | 0:05:24
I tried to hold it back at work and in business, and just try to crack | 0:05:24 | 0:05:28
on, as you saw, and it was nice, I think, just the final, | 0:05:28 | 0:05:32
I got to talk about my business, | 0:05:32 | 0:05:33
I got to talk about things I was passionate about, which was | 0:05:33 | 0:05:35
a bit different to picking up dog poo and hosting fashion shows. | 0:05:35 | 0:05:39
So, for me, it was just great and I loved it and it was a relief and I'm | 0:05:39 | 0:05:42
just so happy that I made it there cos that was always the aim, so... | 0:05:42 | 0:05:45
-It's been a long process, tough process. -Yeah, it's tough. | 0:05:45 | 0:05:49
-Did you enjoy it all or was it just the ending? -No, I enjoyed... | 0:05:49 | 0:05:51
I think, at the time, you're so engrossed in it all, | 0:05:51 | 0:05:54
you don't even understand what an incredible experience it is | 0:05:54 | 0:05:56
and how much you'll learn about yourself and everything, | 0:05:56 | 0:05:59
so you're just sort of coping day-to-day | 0:05:59 | 0:06:00
and living in a house with...er, amazing people, over there. | 0:06:00 | 0:06:04
No, it's just, the whole thing's quite overwhelming | 0:06:04 | 0:06:07
so it's only afterwards, when you're talking with your family | 0:06:07 | 0:06:10
and friends, you realise what an incredible thing it is | 0:06:10 | 0:06:12
and hopefully does lots of good things in the future for me. | 0:06:12 | 0:06:15
-Karren. -Yes. -Was there a time that you remembering starting to think | 0:06:15 | 0:06:19
that you had a potential winner there? Do you remember a moment? | 0:06:19 | 0:06:21
I think it... | 0:06:21 | 0:06:22
Sarah would say this was her lowest point | 0:06:22 | 0:06:25
but I thought it was quite a high point. | 0:06:25 | 0:06:28
And that was in the robot task, | 0:06:28 | 0:06:30
when you had that terrible row in the street | 0:06:30 | 0:06:33
and it was all going really badly, everything was falling apart, | 0:06:33 | 0:06:37
all the girls were fighting amongst each other but, as always, | 0:06:37 | 0:06:42
you managed to retain your cool, be sensible, not get emotional, | 0:06:42 | 0:06:48
try and steer your way through | 0:06:48 | 0:06:50
and I thought, "This is the sort of woman | 0:06:50 | 0:06:52
"that I would be in these type of situations - | 0:06:52 | 0:06:55
"try to be strong, try to bring people together, | 0:06:55 | 0:06:57
"try to avoid the conflict, walk away from the arguments," | 0:06:57 | 0:07:01
and I thought, "You're going places." | 0:07:01 | 0:07:04
-Oh, thank you. -Sarah has managed to sort of avoid a lot of the drama. | 0:07:04 | 0:07:08
Claude, did you see her winning this? | 0:07:08 | 0:07:10
Well, I'll tell you that I think that Sarah, right from the start, | 0:07:10 | 0:07:12
was a very good candidate and one has to say that she was composed. | 0:07:12 | 0:07:16
For me, I had a moment, | 0:07:16 | 0:07:18
if you like, when you and James were in the car in Bruges, | 0:07:18 | 0:07:21
when James came up with one idea, to try and get some chocolate samples free, | 0:07:21 | 0:07:25
and you then came up with the idea of actually trying to get | 0:07:25 | 0:07:28
some commission for bringing the people in and, at that moment, | 0:07:28 | 0:07:30
I thought, "These are two very, very bright people, | 0:07:30 | 0:07:32
"with real entrepreneurial spirit," so that, for me, was the moment when, | 0:07:32 | 0:07:35
from that moment on, I thought, "I'm really taking these two seriously." | 0:07:35 | 0:07:38
I thought you got the ferry to Bruges. | 0:07:38 | 0:07:40
Such a nit-picker. | 0:07:42 | 0:07:45
Russell, did you see her winning this? | 0:07:45 | 0:07:47
You know I did, Rhod, cos I was on very early in the run of this show | 0:07:47 | 0:07:50
and you asked me to predict a winner and I picked Sarah straightaway. | 0:07:50 | 0:07:53
In fact, I think I've cracked a bit of a formula with this show. | 0:07:53 | 0:07:56
It's always... Yes, it's an ambitious, passionate person, | 0:07:56 | 0:07:59
but clear-headed, calm under duress, driven. | 0:07:59 | 0:08:02
The people that never win are never the people that say, "I'm going | 0:08:02 | 0:08:04
"to smash everyone, if I lose, I'm going to set the house on fire. | 0:08:04 | 0:08:07
"When I'm indoors, I wear a mask of Lord Sugar with the eyes cut out. | 0:08:07 | 0:08:10
"I will win The Apprentice this year." Those people never win. | 0:08:10 | 0:08:13
It's always the people that go slightly down the middle and that's | 0:08:13 | 0:08:16
what you did - the silent killer, in your ninja mask at the back. | 0:08:16 | 0:08:19
"I will win" and, bang, investment and out. | 0:08:19 | 0:08:21
Well, Sarah, let's meet your new business partner. | 0:08:21 | 0:08:25
Please welcome Lord Sugar! | 0:08:25 | 0:08:27
-Welcome. -How are you, Rhod? -Welcome. I'm very well. Grab a seat. | 0:08:33 | 0:08:36
Grab a seat. You've made history. A double win on The Apprentice. | 0:08:36 | 0:08:40
Yes, yes. | 0:08:40 | 0:08:41
This is a historic moment, I suppose, | 0:08:41 | 0:08:44
in the 13 years we've been doing this, is that right? | 0:08:44 | 0:08:47
Yeah. And it's really because of... Well, I said it in the episode. | 0:08:47 | 0:08:51
-I was... Couldn't make a decision. It had to be both of them. -Yeah. | 0:08:51 | 0:08:55
Is that it, really... | 0:08:55 | 0:08:56
Just couldn't? If you'd stayed there a few more days? | 0:08:56 | 0:08:59
You could do that, flip a coin, but that would've been unfair, | 0:08:59 | 0:09:02
wouldn't it, really? | 0:09:02 | 0:09:03
Yeah, they were two genuinely great experts in their fields | 0:09:03 | 0:09:08
-and I'm looking forward to going into business with them. -Yeah. | 0:09:08 | 0:09:12
And you must feel... You know, chucking out £500,000. | 0:09:12 | 0:09:15
Oh, I thought you was going to say something... | 0:09:15 | 0:09:17
I thought you were going to say to me, | 0:09:17 | 0:09:19
"You must really feel one of them's better than the other." | 0:09:19 | 0:09:21
Oh, yeah, that's good TV! Which one do you prefer? | 0:09:21 | 0:09:24
-Which one do you like best? -Um, yeah. | 0:09:24 | 0:09:27
Um, no, I like them both so, no, it's £500,000, as you've said, you | 0:09:27 | 0:09:32
know, it just goes to show that the investment that I'm prepared to | 0:09:32 | 0:09:35
make means that I'm genuinely... was genuinely torn as to who | 0:09:35 | 0:09:40
I was going to go into business with. | 0:09:40 | 0:09:42
Even for you, that's a lot of money. | 0:09:42 | 0:09:45
-Double the risk. -Yeah, double the risk. | 0:09:45 | 0:09:48
Yeah, but, you know, as I said in the film, I'm a gambler, so... | 0:09:48 | 0:09:51
You know. I'm sure I've placed a good bet here. | 0:09:51 | 0:09:55
I haven't gone wrong in the past with all the other people | 0:09:55 | 0:09:59
that we've gone into business with. They seem to have done OK. | 0:09:59 | 0:10:03
The closest I can come to this, to get my head around it, is sometimes | 0:10:03 | 0:10:06
in Indian restaurants I can't decide between a prawn madras | 0:10:06 | 0:10:09
-and a chicken biryani. -Yeah. -So I have both. | 0:10:09 | 0:10:11
The investment here is slightly more. | 0:10:12 | 0:10:15
Yeah, little less spicy, I would think. | 0:10:15 | 0:10:18
On to Sarah specifically, what did you see in her? | 0:10:18 | 0:10:21
Well, I think a very steady businessperson who's already | 0:10:21 | 0:10:26
got a business going and has successfully run a business | 0:10:26 | 0:10:30
and I think it's ready to go like that. | 0:10:30 | 0:10:33
That's the point, to scale it up, | 0:10:33 | 0:10:35
and that's where I come into it, where my people come into it, | 0:10:35 | 0:10:38
to go that next mile where she's got the confidence now to have an | 0:10:38 | 0:10:42
investor like me to actually tell her what she can do | 0:10:42 | 0:10:47
and what she can't do and give her the confidence to move it forward. | 0:10:47 | 0:10:50
I have no idea about sweets, other than they break my teeth, | 0:10:50 | 0:10:55
and you're the boss, you know your business. | 0:10:55 | 0:10:59
All I'm going to do is make sure that we're going to do | 0:10:59 | 0:11:02
the correct mentoring from a business point of view. | 0:11:02 | 0:11:05
I think we'll expand that business very, very quickly. | 0:11:05 | 0:11:07
OK. Sarah's confectionary business plan and can-dy attitude... | 0:11:07 | 0:11:11
LORD SUGAR GROANS ..clearly appealed. | 0:11:11 | 0:11:14
Clearly appealed to Lord Sugar and ended with the sweet, | 0:11:14 | 0:11:18
sweet smell of success. | 0:11:18 | 0:11:19
Let's see where it all went so sweet. | 0:11:19 | 0:11:22
Now, Sarah, you already run a sweets gifting business, but I need | 0:11:22 | 0:11:27
convincing that you can grow your | 0:11:27 | 0:11:29
new business into a giant brand. | 0:11:29 | 0:11:31
Sarah's Chic Sweets and then the strapline is | 0:11:31 | 0:11:34
"saying it with sweets". | 0:11:34 | 0:11:35
I mean, there's a lot of sweets | 0:11:35 | 0:11:37
in there. I'm feeling stressed out. | 0:11:37 | 0:11:38
Lord Sugar was looking for a brand that had growth | 0:11:38 | 0:11:41
and scalability and Sarah's Chic Sweets just doesn't do it. | 0:11:41 | 0:11:44
I also thought of Sweeteze. | 0:11:44 | 0:11:46
It's punchy, it's one word, it's not such a mouthful. | 0:11:46 | 0:11:50
-I think that works a lot better. -Much happier with this. | 0:11:50 | 0:11:52
Retro candy, saying it with sweets. | 0:11:52 | 0:11:55
Creating memories. | 0:11:55 | 0:11:56
The whole concept of Sweeteze is about sending a smile in a jar. | 0:11:56 | 0:11:59
She's right. There's no-one doing this particularly well within | 0:12:01 | 0:12:04
-the industry. -Lord Sugar, this won't just be an investment for you. | 0:12:04 | 0:12:08
I will be the most successful Apprentice candidate there has been. | 0:12:08 | 0:12:11
Big words! | 0:12:12 | 0:12:13
We did see a more competitive Sarah in that final bit in the boardroom. | 0:12:13 | 0:12:16
-You and James... -Yeah. | 0:12:16 | 0:12:18
Sort of little tug, little bit of competitive spirit coming out there. | 0:12:18 | 0:12:21
Well, you're fighting, at that point, for your life, | 0:12:21 | 0:12:23
and you just have to really, you have to go for it and you | 0:12:23 | 0:12:26
have to say everything you want to say and you have to try and be calm. | 0:12:26 | 0:12:29
And it is, it's... Yeah. It's not an environment... It's not fun. | 0:12:29 | 0:12:32
But it's your one chance | 0:12:32 | 0:12:33
to explain to Lord Sugar and Karren and Claude, | 0:12:33 | 0:12:35
what you're about and that you do have passion | 0:12:35 | 0:12:37
-and that you can succeed. -It was a stressful few days. -Yeah. | 0:12:37 | 0:12:41
That long walk down. | 0:12:41 | 0:12:42
It's always such a long walk they make you do down to the pitch. | 0:12:42 | 0:12:45
What was going through your mind on that half-hour walk? | 0:12:45 | 0:12:48
Do you know, it was... | 0:12:48 | 0:12:50
It was just surreal, to be walking down there and, | 0:12:50 | 0:12:54
to be honest, I was really excited and pumped up | 0:12:54 | 0:12:58
and I think the nerves were less than they had been at other stages | 0:12:58 | 0:13:00
because I knew what I was talking about and it was my business | 0:13:00 | 0:13:03
and my idea, so I felt really confident, but, obviously, | 0:13:03 | 0:13:06
as you walk down those stairs, it's overwhelming to see everybody | 0:13:06 | 0:13:09
and to see Lord Sugar and Karren and Claude and you just want | 0:13:09 | 0:13:11
to give it your all and you want to say everything in five minutes | 0:13:11 | 0:13:14
and you have to kind of just think about what you say and breathe. | 0:13:14 | 0:13:17
You clearly did a fab job. | 0:13:17 | 0:13:18
Russell, whenever I watch that pitch... | 0:13:18 | 0:13:21
I mean, comedians, we do that kind of thing, | 0:13:21 | 0:13:23
stand up on your own in front of the public every night. | 0:13:23 | 0:13:27
Every time I watch that, every year, I think that looks terrifying. | 0:13:27 | 0:13:29
I mean, I am a seasoned performer, I go out in front of people | 0:13:29 | 0:13:32
every night, but to go in front of your peers, terrifying. | 0:13:32 | 0:13:35
I would have come down those stairs like... | 0:13:35 | 0:13:37
Do you know when a horse has just been born and its legs... | 0:13:37 | 0:13:40
I probably would have overdosed on Imodium in the toilets. | 0:13:40 | 0:13:43
There's also never a gig worth £250,000 at the end of it. | 0:13:43 | 0:13:46
No. Well, there is at some of mine, but that's beside the point. | 0:13:46 | 0:13:50
Lord Sugar, do you feel pressure in those pitches, | 0:13:52 | 0:13:55
because you've assembled all these industry experts, | 0:13:55 | 0:13:58
this throng of people and then you've got two people very nervous, | 0:13:58 | 0:14:01
you know, putting themselves out. If that goes badly, does it...? | 0:14:01 | 0:14:03
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you do feel a little bit nervous that | 0:14:03 | 0:14:06
I have called in experts and I've got my two candidates there | 0:14:06 | 0:14:11
who could really embarrass themselves in front of everyone. | 0:14:11 | 0:14:16
Once they get going, you can see the nerves are draining out of them | 0:14:16 | 0:14:20
and they're getting on with it. | 0:14:20 | 0:14:22
This was the product that you very cannily, I thought, | 0:14:22 | 0:14:25
left around for everybody, just as a little bribe. | 0:14:25 | 0:14:29
Much more difficult for James to leave his IT branding. | 0:14:29 | 0:14:32
"Dear Lord Sugar, here's to a sweet new business venture, | 0:14:32 | 0:14:35
"yours sincerely, Sarah Lynn." You looked impressed with this. | 0:14:35 | 0:14:38
It's a good idea. | 0:14:38 | 0:14:39
And it was designed so that it goes through a letterbox | 0:14:39 | 0:14:43
-and you can see a sleeve go over it. -Claude was tucking in at one point. | 0:14:43 | 0:14:48
-Those are your favourite. -It never touched my lips, Alan, honestly. | 0:14:48 | 0:14:52
-What goes there? Prawns. -I couldn't tell you. -Prawns or that one. | 0:14:52 | 0:14:57
How many boxes did you get through, Claude? | 0:14:57 | 0:14:58
-Be honest. -About three, yeah. | 0:14:58 | 0:15:00
It's a good bribe. | 0:15:02 | 0:15:04
You originally had Harrison's branding, of course, | 0:15:04 | 0:15:06
that they came up with, the... | 0:15:06 | 0:15:08
HE TRIPS OVER THE WORDS | 0:15:08 | 0:15:09
The tongue twister they come up with. Harrison? | 0:15:09 | 0:15:13
What have you got to say for yourself? | 0:15:13 | 0:15:15
Sarah has seen the final now herself, | 0:15:15 | 0:15:17
she can see the absolute lies you told about the market research. | 0:15:17 | 0:15:20
"100% of people loved it, everyone is going to rush home | 0:15:22 | 0:15:24
"and sell their house to buy as many sweets as they can. | 0:15:24 | 0:15:27
"I wish you could have been there. I wish you could have been there." | 0:15:27 | 0:15:29
You didn't mention the terrible billboard. | 0:15:29 | 0:15:32
No, to be honest, I just wanted her to do well. | 0:15:32 | 0:15:34
She had a stressful situation coming up so I don't think a few negative | 0:15:34 | 0:15:38
comments from some angry commuters would have helped that, so... | 0:15:38 | 0:15:41
Karren, they didn't give her the negative feedback. | 0:15:42 | 0:15:45
How well did Sarah's team support her vision, do you think? | 0:15:45 | 0:15:48
Well, I don't think they really understood Sarah's... | 0:15:48 | 0:15:53
-LORD SUGAR: -Don't hold back. | 0:15:53 | 0:15:55
I'll try to be as polite and as direct as possible. | 0:15:55 | 0:15:57
But I think you were clearly disappointed. | 0:15:57 | 0:16:00
You are all about an elegant yet direct solution to problems. | 0:16:00 | 0:16:06
I've noticed that in all the weeks I've followed you. | 0:16:06 | 0:16:09
And yet the brand with the sweets and the umbrella and the name, | 0:16:09 | 0:16:13
I really did feel for you. | 0:16:13 | 0:16:15
Your sub team, Sarah, had to get on with the billboard, | 0:16:15 | 0:16:19
-the promotional video, without you there to supervise. -Yes. | 0:16:19 | 0:16:22
Let's remind ourselves how your creative supremos got on. | 0:16:22 | 0:16:25
Action. | 0:16:26 | 0:16:27
Siobhan, you're taking the piss! Give him the flowers. | 0:16:29 | 0:16:34
Siobhan! You can't just do that! | 0:16:34 | 0:16:37
All right, I'll do it properly now. | 0:16:37 | 0:16:39
Do it properly, stop being a bellend! | 0:16:39 | 0:16:41
-Delivery? -You're kidding me, sending me this crap. | 0:16:41 | 0:16:44
-Action! -No! | 0:16:44 | 0:16:46
I've got to ring the doorbell! | 0:16:46 | 0:16:49
Give over, Siobhan, you're being annoying. | 0:16:49 | 0:16:51
Siobhan, Siobhan, where are you? | 0:16:54 | 0:16:57
That promotional video looked fun to shoot. | 0:16:57 | 0:17:00
Are you disappointed your bit throwing the flowers | 0:17:00 | 0:17:02
into the street didn't make the final cut? | 0:17:02 | 0:17:04
I'm devastated, yeah. | 0:17:04 | 0:17:05
Michaela, you weren't sure that Sarah was going to like what you | 0:17:07 | 0:17:11
came up with and you were right, she didn't, but she got on with it. | 0:17:11 | 0:17:14
Yes, it wasn't great, was it? | 0:17:14 | 0:17:16
But I was dealing with Siobhan and Andrew... | 0:17:16 | 0:17:18
Oh, no, it was Harrison, actually. Siobhan and Harrison, even worse! | 0:17:18 | 0:17:21
Was it fun, shooting that video? | 0:17:21 | 0:17:23
-Do you think it looked fun? -I thought Siobhan was having fun. | 0:17:23 | 0:17:27
Well, we have Sarah's family in the audience, I believe. | 0:17:27 | 0:17:32
Family Lynn, where are you guys? Give us a wave. | 0:17:32 | 0:17:35
There's loads of them. | 0:17:35 | 0:17:37
-Dad, Kevin, are you up there? -I'm here. -Did you expect her to win? | 0:17:37 | 0:17:41
Did I expect her to win? The apple didn't fall far from the tree. | 0:17:41 | 0:17:44
Lord Sugar has made a very, very good investment. | 0:17:46 | 0:17:49
Mum, Jackie, where are you? | 0:17:49 | 0:17:52
Where does she get her supercool confident, unflappable, | 0:17:52 | 0:17:56
-Zen-like calm from? -Me. | 0:17:56 | 0:17:59
-Does she? -Yes. | 0:17:59 | 0:18:01
And also, I think she picked up | 0:18:02 | 0:18:04
a few tips from Karren along the way, as well. | 0:18:04 | 0:18:07
-Definitely. -Sarah, your husband's up there as well, I think? -Yes. | 0:18:07 | 0:18:12
I think Michael's up there as well. | 0:18:12 | 0:18:14
Sarah was obviously very emotional in that final, | 0:18:14 | 0:18:17
she says she's given up a lot at home to go through this process. | 0:18:17 | 0:18:19
Were you secretly hoping she'd get chucked out | 0:18:19 | 0:18:22
a little bit earlier so she'd come home? | 0:18:22 | 0:18:23
I don't know, I was enjoying the time off as well, to be honest. | 0:18:23 | 0:18:26
Does she have another side? Spill the beans. | 0:18:28 | 0:18:30
-What's she like at home? -She's really funny. | 0:18:30 | 0:18:32
It's kind of funny seeing her on the telly, everyone's going, | 0:18:32 | 0:18:34
"You're so serious, why are you so serious?" | 0:18:34 | 0:18:36
-But at home, she's a completely different character. -Is that true? | 0:18:36 | 0:18:39
I do have a fun side. I think it's just it's a business show | 0:18:39 | 0:18:42
and I'm focused, but, honestly, | 0:18:42 | 0:18:44
I am not totally personality-less, I hope. | 0:18:44 | 0:18:46
I don't think you came across as personality-less, | 0:18:46 | 0:18:50
but very serious and focused. | 0:18:50 | 0:18:51
Even my father was saying, "In every shot, you're like this," | 0:18:51 | 0:18:54
-this serious face. -Were you trying to hide that fun side a bit? | 0:18:54 | 0:18:57
That's cos the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. | 0:18:57 | 0:18:59
I think even, yeah, my family watching were like, | 0:19:01 | 0:19:03
"Gosh, you are serious," but I think it's just that I was focused | 0:19:03 | 0:19:06
and I desperately wanted to win and make my mark, | 0:19:06 | 0:19:08
so, yeah, on camera that comes across a certain way. | 0:19:08 | 0:19:11
Did you never, when the cameras weren't there, were you like, right, | 0:19:11 | 0:19:14
put a clown hat on, squirty water flower, | 0:19:14 | 0:19:15
dancing on the roof, "This is the real me!"? | 0:19:15 | 0:19:18
-What goes on in the house, stays in the house. -Right! | 0:19:18 | 0:19:21
Well, it's the end of the series, so, throughout this evening, | 0:19:21 | 0:19:24
we will be presenting a host of awards to candidates | 0:19:24 | 0:19:26
who have stood out in a particular field. | 0:19:26 | 0:19:28
The You're Fired Excellence in Business Awards, | 0:19:28 | 0:19:31
or YFEBAs for short. | 0:19:31 | 0:19:33
This first award recognises that, under pressure, | 0:19:33 | 0:19:35
we can all look like a bit of a numpty. | 0:19:35 | 0:19:37
Yes, this YFEBA is for silliest question. | 0:19:37 | 0:19:41
Let's have a look at who's made the short list. | 0:19:41 | 0:19:43
And the nominees are... | 0:19:45 | 0:19:47
Harrison, for his hilarious historical howler. | 0:19:47 | 0:19:51
-We're in a Norman setting. -Medieval? | 0:19:51 | 0:19:53
They didn't even have cars then, did they? | 0:19:53 | 0:19:55
Chris, for his "I think I'll tempt fate... Oh, dear." | 0:19:55 | 0:20:00
-Do you not feel I performed well in the first four tasks? -No. | 0:20:00 | 0:20:03
Joanna, for her harebrained horticultural humdinger. | 0:20:03 | 0:20:08
Something to do with the setting, fir trees. | 0:20:08 | 0:20:11
-Is there such a thing as a tree with fur? -It's F-I-R. | 0:20:11 | 0:20:15
And Charles, for asking the wrong question | 0:20:15 | 0:20:18
to the wrong person at the wrong time. | 0:20:18 | 0:20:21
Is it possible just to have a breakdown of the girls, | 0:20:21 | 0:20:23
-what did they sell, versus... -It's nothing to do with you. | 0:20:23 | 0:20:27
A hell of a lot more than you, anyway. | 0:20:28 | 0:20:30
And the winner is Charles, ladies and gentlemen. | 0:20:33 | 0:20:36
Charles, there you go. | 0:20:42 | 0:20:43
Congratulations. Let me shake that hand. | 0:20:43 | 0:20:45
Silliest question. What were you thinking? | 0:20:45 | 0:20:48
Um, I was thinking that if we knew where they'd won, | 0:20:48 | 0:20:50
we'd better be able to pick where we'd failed. That was it. | 0:20:50 | 0:20:53
I thoroughly enjoyed the moment. | 0:20:53 | 0:20:54
Lord Sugar, now that we've got you here, | 0:20:54 | 0:20:56
what was the breakdown of the ladies figures? | 0:20:56 | 0:20:58
-I can't remember. -A hell of a lot more than you! | 0:20:58 | 0:21:00
A hell of a lot more than you, mate! | 0:21:00 | 0:21:02
Thanks very much, Charles, ladies and gentlemen. | 0:21:02 | 0:21:04
Lord Sugar, what would you do without your trusted confidants, | 0:21:08 | 0:21:14
-Karren and Claude? -It would be impossible, really, in truth, | 0:21:14 | 0:21:18
for me to know what to ask the candidates | 0:21:18 | 0:21:22
when we're in the boardroom, because they are, | 0:21:22 | 0:21:24
as I've always said, my eyes and ears. They don't miss a trick. | 0:21:24 | 0:21:28
And they've been at it for so long... | 0:21:28 | 0:21:30
Take that in the nicest way. | 0:21:30 | 0:21:32
I was just thinking that. | 0:21:33 | 0:21:35
-Um... -LAUGHTER | 0:21:35 | 0:21:37
No, it's not possible. It's a team, you see. | 0:21:37 | 0:21:40
We are a team, so, sometimes in the boardroom, | 0:21:40 | 0:21:43
when things get a bit heated, Karren steps in and Claude steps in | 0:21:43 | 0:21:46
and just shuts them down, when there's a turmoil going on | 0:21:46 | 0:21:50
because they know what went on out in the street | 0:21:50 | 0:21:53
and all that stuff and then of course they can jump up | 0:21:53 | 0:21:55
suddenly and say, "No, no, no, that's not exactly what went on. | 0:21:55 | 0:21:58
"Would you mind clarifying that for Lord Sugar a little bit?" | 0:21:58 | 0:22:01
A very polite way of doing it, | 0:22:01 | 0:22:02
rather than saying, "You bloody liar." | 0:22:02 | 0:22:04
But, no, it wouldn't be possible. | 0:22:06 | 0:22:09
It would not be possible without these two. | 0:22:09 | 0:22:11
How hard is it sometimes, Karren, not to jump in, | 0:22:11 | 0:22:16
-when chaos is unfolding. -Not that hard. | 0:22:16 | 0:22:18
No, I mean, there is a tendency to go, "Oh, come on!" | 0:22:19 | 0:22:24
But the truth is that Alan is not looking to offer an investment | 0:22:24 | 0:22:27
to Claude and I, so he doesn't want us to help them. | 0:22:27 | 0:22:31
He doesn't want them to fail but he doesn't want us to help them. | 0:22:31 | 0:22:34
He wants to see how they cope on their own. | 0:22:34 | 0:22:37
We see you at interview stage, Claude, and, Karren, we have | 0:22:37 | 0:22:39
a little running joke that Karren is harsh but fair | 0:22:39 | 0:22:42
but this year at the interview stage, I thought | 0:22:42 | 0:22:45
you forgot the fair bit. You were pretty harsh. | 0:22:45 | 0:22:48
I think on the contrary, I think I've been misunderstood. | 0:22:48 | 0:22:51
My sole objective is to try and find a business plan | 0:22:53 | 0:22:56
and the individual and make sure that those are the ones | 0:22:56 | 0:22:59
that go through to the next round, | 0:22:59 | 0:23:01
so, for me, I'm only caring | 0:23:01 | 0:23:02
about making sure that the business plan hangs together | 0:23:02 | 0:23:05
and the person is investable. That's it. | 0:23:05 | 0:23:07
So if by chance I happen to be a bit direct with some of the people, | 0:23:07 | 0:23:12
that is very unfortunate, but, truthfully, | 0:23:12 | 0:23:14
my only objective is to actually | 0:23:14 | 0:23:16
find the best candidate to go through. | 0:23:16 | 0:23:18
OK. How would you cope, Russell, with Karren and Claude? | 0:23:18 | 0:23:21
Following your every move. | 0:23:21 | 0:23:22
I can imagine it being a stand-up gig | 0:23:22 | 0:23:25
and just the light bouncing off the stage and seeing Claude | 0:23:25 | 0:23:28
-sat there passively watching a stand-up set... -Making notes! | 0:23:28 | 0:23:31
The joke had no internal structure. | 0:23:31 | 0:23:33
It was an incoherent narrative | 0:23:35 | 0:23:37
and I wouldn't laugh even if Lord Sugar paid me. | 0:23:37 | 0:23:39
Well, The Apprentice wouldn't be The Apprentice without Karren | 0:23:41 | 0:23:44
and Claude hiding in hedges and leaping out of cupboards. | 0:23:44 | 0:23:47
This year, they've gone to ever greater lengths to keep | 0:23:47 | 0:23:49
their beady eyes on our candidates and dob them in to Lord Sugar. | 0:23:49 | 0:23:53

Nothing will escape my attention. | 0:24:06 | 0:24:07
It's not rocket science, this. | 0:24:15 | 0:24:16
Poo, bag, put the two together and clean-up. | 0:24:16 | 0:24:19
A complete and colossal waste of precious time. | 0:24:19 | 0:24:22
Just monogram the thing and get out and get on. | 0:24:22 | 0:24:25
That's a good bit of business, rather tasty. | 0:24:25 | 0:24:27
Toe curling. | 0:24:27 | 0:24:29
-She certainly has style. -Absolutely. | 0:24:29 | 0:24:31
And so do I. | 0:24:31 | 0:24:32
APPLAUSE | 0:24:37 | 0:24:40
Sarah, to give you an idea of what partnership with Lord Sugar | 0:24:40 | 0:24:42
is going to be like, we've got some previous winners out there. | 0:24:42 | 0:24:45
Can we talk to Tom? Tom Pellereau? 2011. | 0:24:45 | 0:24:49
And Alana is there. Alana, 2016, hello. | 0:24:49 | 0:24:52
-Hi. -Hi, there. | 0:24:52 | 0:24:54
Tom, you set up a business with Lord Sugar after winning in 2011. | 0:24:54 | 0:24:57
What one piece of advice would you give to Sarah? | 0:24:57 | 0:25:01
Well, this is rather difficult because he's here, | 0:25:01 | 0:25:03
but absolutely listen to what he says | 0:25:03 | 0:25:05
because he is a business genius and, with his help, | 0:25:05 | 0:25:08
my business should reach 4,000,000 turnover this year | 0:25:08 | 0:25:11
and for a little inventor like me, that's just insane | 0:25:11 | 0:25:15
and that's all because of listening to him. | 0:25:15 | 0:25:17
Alana, you were sat where Sarah is sitting this time last year, | 0:25:17 | 0:25:20
in the winner's chair. What's the last 12 months been like for you? | 0:25:20 | 0:25:24
It's been incredible. Congratulations, Sarah, by the way. | 0:25:24 | 0:25:27
-Thank you. -You're going to have the most incredible year. | 0:25:27 | 0:25:30
I've gone from being a baker in my own kitchen, just me | 0:25:30 | 0:25:33
and my partner baking cakes and going out at the weekend, | 0:25:33 | 0:25:35
to now we've got 40 ambassadors across the country | 0:25:35 | 0:25:37
going out and selling our cakes. | 0:25:37 | 0:25:39
And Lord Sugar set me the task to get 200 by the end of next year, | 0:25:39 | 0:25:42
so it's been, it's just been an incredible year. | 0:25:42 | 0:25:45
It's been a long process, Sarah. 12 weeks. | 0:25:45 | 0:25:47
What's been the highlight for you? Apart from winning. | 0:25:47 | 0:25:49
Yeah, it has to be, obviously, winning, | 0:25:49 | 0:25:52
but I think in terms of a task, Wembley. I love football. | 0:25:52 | 0:25:56
I loved walking out into the Royal Box and doing that task and it | 0:25:56 | 0:25:59
was just really fun and to win on a fun task, | 0:25:59 | 0:26:01
that was just... Yeah, I loved it. | 0:26:01 | 0:26:03
I loved every minute. | 0:26:03 | 0:26:05
-OK. Huge congratulations... -Thank you so much. | 0:26:05 | 0:26:07
..once again, from all of us. Let's have a look at your highlights. | 0:26:07 | 0:26:09
Welcome and thank you so much. | 0:26:09 | 0:26:12
Big smiles. Let's do this. | 0:26:12 | 0:26:15
-Do I look catwalk? -Go on, Sarah. Sarah is the best. | 0:26:15 | 0:26:19
She's professional, she's straightforward, she's lovely. | 0:26:19 | 0:26:22
She is just an all-round perfect lady. | 0:26:22 | 0:26:25
We sold them all! | 0:26:25 | 0:26:27
Fantastic. Thank you so much. | 0:26:27 | 0:26:29
Just zip it or be constructive. | 0:26:29 | 0:26:31
She's really young at heart and really cool | 0:26:33 | 0:26:36
but the main thing I would say | 0:26:36 | 0:26:37
about Sarah is she is really caring. | 0:26:37 | 0:26:39
Let's keep talking and let's win this. | 0:26:40 | 0:26:42
I'm back! | 0:26:42 | 0:26:44
Sarah is unbelievable. | 0:26:45 | 0:26:47
She is driven, focused and absolutely hilarious. | 0:26:47 | 0:26:51
The nicest woman I've met in years. | 0:26:51 | 0:26:53
Sugar is going sweet. | 0:26:54 | 0:26:55
Well, Sarah, not only do you get Lord Sugar's £250,000 investment, | 0:27:01 | 0:27:05
but - and a lot of people see this as the main prize, really - | 0:27:05 | 0:27:08
cos we've got a little gift for you. No offence, the money is good, | 0:27:08 | 0:27:11
but you may consider this your main prize. | 0:27:11 | 0:27:14
So, this is to inspire... AUDIENCE GASPS | 0:27:14 | 0:27:17
..your forthcoming... Wow, I've never brought | 0:27:17 | 0:27:19
anything up from this table that's got a wow before. | 0:27:19 | 0:27:22
This is a You're Fired box of sweets, as you can tell. | 0:27:22 | 0:27:27
They are all individually tailored to you. | 0:27:27 | 0:27:29
We've got some Elizabeth Gobstoppers. As you can see. | 0:27:29 | 0:27:34
Karren's Lemon Sours. | 0:27:35 | 0:27:37
It says, "Suck on these and stand in front of a mirror in amazement | 0:27:37 | 0:27:41
"as your face magically recreates | 0:27:41 | 0:27:43
"the disappointed face Karren pulls in the boardroom." | 0:27:43 | 0:27:46
We've got Claude's Chocolate Mice, "Hard on the outside, | 0:27:48 | 0:27:52
"but inside as soft and gentle as a little mouse." | 0:27:52 | 0:27:55
Isn't that right, Claude? | 0:27:57 | 0:27:58
Yeah. | 0:27:58 | 0:27:59 | |
I've always found that. | 0:27:59 | 0:28:01
Lord Sugar, you've got your own range here. | 0:28:02 | 0:28:04
-What have I got? Load of balls? -Yours... Load of balls. | 0:28:04 | 0:28:06
Lord Sugar's chocolate footballs. | 0:28:08 | 0:28:10
Lots of different teams in there. | 0:28:10 | 0:28:13
But Spurs are always on the top. | 0:28:13 | 0:28:15
Oh, yes. | 0:28:15 | 0:28:16
Sarah, I hope you enjoy them, | 0:28:16 | 0:28:18
I hope it inspires your confectionery ranges in the future. | 0:28:18 | 0:28:20
I'm going to put them down here. | 0:28:20 | 0:28:23
Ladies and gentlemen, Lord Sugar's new business partner | 0:28:27 | 0:28:29
and one of the winners of The Apprentice 2017, Sarah Lynn! | 0:28:29 | 0:28:33
CHEERING | 0:28:33 | 0:28:35
It's time for another award. | 0:28:39 | 0:28:40
The next YFEBA recognises that the boardroom can be a daunting place. | 0:28:40 | 0:28:44
A gladiatorial arena where egos can be battered | 0:28:44 | 0:28:47
and dodgy decisions decimated. | 0:28:47 | 0:28:49
And sometimes, only a conversational knockout will do. | 0:28:49 | 0:28:52
So this award is for best boardroom shutdown. | 0:28:52 | 0:28:55
Let's have a look at the contenders. | 0:28:55 | 0:28:57
And the nominees are... | 0:28:59 | 0:29:01
Karren, for her no-star review of Bushra's banter. | 0:29:01 | 0:29:06
So I think they felt that they had to be sort of funny and engaged. | 0:29:06 | 0:29:10
But it wasn't funny. | 0:29:10 | 0:29:11
And it certainly wasn't engaging. | 0:29:11 | 0:29:13
Ross, for trying to fight fire with fire and almost getting fired. | 0:29:13 | 0:29:17
-Had you run out of time, then?, -Well, this is... | 0:29:17 | 0:29:20
-Who went to the designer? -I'm trying to actually explain, preferably - | 0:29:20 | 0:29:24
not to be rude - but uninterrupted would be really helpful | 0:29:24 | 0:29:26
just so I can get something across... | 0:29:26 | 0:29:28
Claude, for disappointing Anisa with this dismissive dis. | 0:29:28 | 0:29:32
That was all down to me and my photography skills, I had to... | 0:29:32 | 0:29:35
Sarah would have done it. | 0:29:35 | 0:29:36
There was no great skill. | 0:29:36 | 0:29:38
And Lord Sugar, for bursting Sajan's boardroom bubble. | 0:29:38 | 0:29:42
I'm here to be mentored. | 0:29:42 | 0:29:44
I'm still building my confidence | 0:29:44 | 0:29:46
and I've still got a long way to go in this process. | 0:29:46 | 0:29:48
I'll decide whether you've got a long way to go in this process. | 0:29:48 | 0:29:51
And the winner is... | 0:29:54 | 0:29:55
Ooh, I wonder who it could be, Lord Sugar? | 0:29:55 | 0:29:58
Obviously, it's you. | 0:29:58 | 0:30:00
-Really? -Lord Sugar, ladies and gentlemen. Of course it is. -Oh! | 0:30:00 | 0:30:03
Who else could I give an award to with you sitting there? | 0:30:03 | 0:30:05
-Thank you so much. -My pleasure. -Thank you very much. | 0:30:05 | 0:30:07
-What a surprise. -Yeah. | 0:30:07 | 0:30:09
I'll decide if I take this award or not. | 0:30:09 | 0:30:11
LAUGHTER | 0:30:11 | 0:30:13
-Have you recovered, Sajan? -No, still hurting, but we'll get there. | 0:30:13 | 0:30:16
LAUGHTER | 0:30:16 | 0:30:18
Well, I still can't quite believe it, but it's a unique Apprentice | 0:30:18 | 0:30:21
this year, as Lord Sugar chose not one, but two business partners. | 0:30:21 | 0:30:25
Before we meet the second winner, | 0:30:25 | 0:30:27
let's remind ourselves of that historic moment. | 0:30:27 | 0:30:29
This particular year... | 0:30:29 | 0:30:31
..I'm going to double my investment | 0:30:33 | 0:30:36
and I'm going to start a business with both of you. | 0:30:36 | 0:30:39
-Thank you. -I won't let you down, Lord Sugar. | 0:30:41 | 0:30:43
It means the world to me. | 0:30:43 | 0:30:45
Ladies and gentlemen, James White. CHEERING | 0:30:45 | 0:30:48
James, congratulations. | 0:30:52 | 0:30:54
Thank you very much. | 0:30:54 | 0:30:55
An historic Apprentice first. Two winners. | 0:30:55 | 0:30:57
-How do you feel? -Can't believe it. | 0:30:57 | 0:30:59
-Can you? -No! | 0:30:59 | 0:31:01
-No, worked hard. Worked hard. -Yeah. | 0:31:01 | 0:31:04
Like Sarah, you did seem very confident, very determined, | 0:31:04 | 0:31:07
very focused. Did you think you were going to win? | 0:31:07 | 0:31:09
I couldn't call it between me and Sarah, | 0:31:09 | 0:31:11
so I could see why we both ended up with the investment, but absolutely. | 0:31:11 | 0:31:15
I went in there to win and come out on top. | 0:31:15 | 0:31:17
-Well, joint top! -This clearly meant a lot to you, as well. | 0:31:17 | 0:31:20
-Yeah. -You spoke about your dad and how much it meant to you... | 0:31:20 | 0:31:22
Yeah. Absolutely. | 0:31:22 | 0:31:26
You know, I would say he is one of my biggest motivations | 0:31:26 | 0:31:29
and the reason why I'm so determined as, I would say, | 0:31:29 | 0:31:32
a young person. | 0:31:32 | 0:31:33
But, yeah, hopefully he is proud. | 0:31:33 | 0:31:36
I'm proud, son. | 0:31:36 | 0:31:37
Can't be any prouder. | 0:31:37 | 0:31:39
Good man, good man. | 0:31:39 | 0:31:41
Lord Sugar, you have touched briefly on why... | 0:31:41 | 0:31:43
what you saw in James, why you wanted him as a business partner, | 0:31:43 | 0:31:46
but in a bit more detail, what was it about him and his business? | 0:31:46 | 0:31:50
He knows his business inside out. | 0:31:50 | 0:31:53
That's what I think we found. | 0:31:53 | 0:31:55
And of course, I have a business partner in Ricky Martin, | 0:31:55 | 0:31:59
who's in the recruitment industry. | 0:31:59 | 0:32:01
But what I have picked up from Ricky has given me | 0:32:01 | 0:32:05
enough experience to know that he knew what he was talking about. | 0:32:05 | 0:32:09
If you understand what I mean. | 0:32:09 | 0:32:11
-Did you know that he didn't know anything about this? -He fooled me. | 0:32:11 | 0:32:16
And, yeah, he is going | 0:32:16 | 0:32:17
to specialise in something called cyber-security which is | 0:32:17 | 0:32:20
an up-and-coming industry now. | 0:32:20 | 0:32:24
It's very important because we're hearing so much of this hacking | 0:32:24 | 0:32:27
going on, it is a growing industry. | 0:32:27 | 0:32:29
If I did have something on my computer that | 0:32:29 | 0:32:32
I needed to remove, would you be able to help with that at all? | 0:32:32 | 0:32:35
-I think... -I was on tour and I downloaded something by accident! | 0:32:35 | 0:32:38
LAUGHTER | 0:32:38 | 0:32:39
-No, I've never... -Yeah, at a small cost. | 0:32:39 | 0:32:41
-KARREN: -He keeps checking it's there every day. | 0:32:41 | 0:32:43
Can you stop the Viagra... Can you stop the Viagra e-mails? | 0:32:43 | 0:32:46
Claude, you shadowed James throughout the process. | 0:32:48 | 0:32:51
Well, I found James to be somebody who is very serious, very committed | 0:32:51 | 0:32:54
and I think in every single task, he demonstrated that he had the | 0:32:54 | 0:32:57
ability to seize on the task, to do the negotiating, to do the selling. | 0:32:57 | 0:33:00
And I think he was pretty impressive right from the start. | 0:33:00 | 0:33:03
-Very serious... Are you very serious? -Do I look really serious? | 0:33:03 | 0:33:06
No, I am serious when it comes to work. But I've got the other side. | 0:33:06 | 0:33:08
Seriously hot! | 0:33:08 | 0:33:10
-All right, Russell! -Were you trying to put forward a certain...? | 0:33:11 | 0:33:15
Yeah, I came into this process to win it | 0:33:15 | 0:33:17
and I wanted to take it seriously. | 0:33:17 | 0:33:18
But, in the house, as Sarah said, behind closed doors we had some fun. | 0:33:18 | 0:33:23
Not me and Sarah! | 0:33:23 | 0:33:24
LAUGHTER | 0:33:24 | 0:33:26
But, no, I've got a light-hearted side as well. | 0:33:26 | 0:33:29
Yeah. James has been very capable and determined, Karren. | 0:33:29 | 0:33:32
Is he the perfect candidate? | 0:33:32 | 0:33:34
Well, there's a couple of things that stand out with James. | 0:33:34 | 0:33:36
He is young, he's ambitious, he understands the business he's in, | 0:33:36 | 0:33:40
he has a vision for the future, he's not afraid of hard work. | 0:33:40 | 0:33:44
You hold yourself very well. | 0:33:44 | 0:33:46
And I think those are all the things that Alan is looking for. | 0:33:46 | 0:33:49
-Nice. -I mean, they take every box, tick, tick, tick. | 0:33:49 | 0:33:52
That's really nice to hear. | 0:33:52 | 0:33:53
Well, Lord Sugar was obviously keen to recruit a recruiter, | 0:33:53 | 0:33:57
so let's have a look at how the head honcho went about headhunting | 0:33:57 | 0:34:00
the head hunter. | 0:34:00 | 0:34:02
James, IT recruitment is a very crowded market. | 0:34:02 | 0:34:06
So you need to prove to me that your new business can stand out. | 0:34:06 | 0:34:09
So that would leave you three to do the digital billboards. | 0:34:09 | 0:34:13
This is my baby, I need this to work. | 0:34:13 | 0:34:15
As soon as I say action, you go. | 0:34:15 | 0:34:17
Action! Hopefully, we can present him as a really credible brand. | 0:34:17 | 0:34:20
Cut. | 0:34:20 | 0:34:21 | |
You'll have experts in that pitch who know recruitment. | 0:34:21 | 0:34:24
-Bet your bottom dollar, they'll probably be an IT person. -100%. | 0:34:24 | 0:34:26
And they will say, we are a specialist, we do these functions. | 0:34:26 | 0:34:29
Meeting Ricky was really helpful. | 0:34:29 | 0:34:31
I need to focus more on cyber-security. | 0:34:31 | 0:34:33
That's what he told me, so I'm going to take that away. | 0:34:33 | 0:34:35
I'm here to unveil my new IT recruitment business. | 0:34:35 | 0:34:39
First Tier Talent. | 0:34:39 | 0:34:40
We want to be the best. | 0:34:40 | 0:34:42
We want to stand out from the rest. | 0:34:42 | 0:34:43
APPLAUSE | 0:34:43 | 0:34:46
If he came to me tomorrow, I'd give him some business. | 0:34:47 | 0:34:50
I don't think that you would find a better candidate to front | 0:34:50 | 0:34:52
a company in my industry, an industry that you know works, | 0:34:52 | 0:34:55
that you know is extremely profitable if you get it right. | 0:34:55 | 0:34:59
James seemed to enjoy the pitch, Lord Sugar. | 0:34:59 | 0:35:01
He had a bit of fun at the expense of the promotional video with | 0:35:01 | 0:35:04
Charles, had a good laugh at the end of that. | 0:35:04 | 0:35:05
He gave a very good account of himself in that pitch. | 0:35:05 | 0:35:08
Yeah, yeah. | 0:35:08 | 0:35:10
I can understand why he had a bit of fun with Charles running! | 0:35:10 | 0:35:12
He won, he won the race, Charles. | 0:35:15 | 0:35:18
-He did, he did win. -This was the brand. | 0:35:18 | 0:35:21
This was the brand that you and Joanna knocked up in ooh...24 hours! | 0:35:22 | 0:35:26
-Tell us, were you panicking a bit? -Yeah... | 0:35:28 | 0:35:30
It was the final, it was taking you a long time to come up with | 0:35:30 | 0:35:33
a brand and a strapline. | 0:35:33 | 0:35:35
Yeah, we had a bit of a brain freeze. | 0:35:35 | 0:35:36
We got stuck on a few ideas and... Well, Karren was there! | 0:35:36 | 0:35:40
We couldn't think around them | 0:35:40 | 0:35:41
and, yeah, this is what we come up with in the end. | 0:35:41 | 0:35:44
Backed it and, what do you think? Do you like it? | 0:35:44 | 0:35:48
Well, it's hard to get excited about IT recruitment, | 0:35:48 | 0:35:51
isn't it, Russell? Do you find? | 0:35:51 | 0:35:53
I actually do. | 0:35:53 | 0:35:55
If you think about what major IT stories there have | 0:35:55 | 0:35:57
been in the news that everyone in this room has read. | 0:35:57 | 0:36:00
It's people's i-clouds being hacked, | 0:36:00 | 0:36:01
their personal photos appearing on... | 0:36:01 | 0:36:03
I mean, this is hot business at the moment. | 0:36:03 | 0:36:05
It's just on the branding front, | 0:36:05 | 0:36:07
you could have got more alliteration with "Top Tier Talent". | 0:36:07 | 0:36:09
That's also the very top, | 0:36:09 | 0:36:11
rather than the office junior who would be the first tier. | 0:36:11 | 0:36:14
Yeah, yeah. That's the feedback we had. | 0:36:14 | 0:36:15
But top tier would be a seamless... | 0:36:15 | 0:36:17
Obviously you must have slept well, that night, | 0:36:17 | 0:36:20
because unlike Sarah, she didn't sleep the whole night | 0:36:20 | 0:36:23
and in the morning, changed the brand name! | 0:36:23 | 0:36:25
-Yeah. -So you must have a good kip that night. | 0:36:25 | 0:36:28
Yeah, best one out of the whole series. | 0:36:28 | 0:36:30
Karren, a lot was made of James has worked for a big company, got a | 0:36:30 | 0:36:34
lot of clout, you pick up the phone, people answer it very quickly. | 0:36:34 | 0:36:37
He's gone out on his own now. | 0:36:37 | 0:36:39
-How different is that? -Well, hugely different. | 0:36:39 | 0:36:42
When you have the big support, the marketing budget, | 0:36:42 | 0:36:45
the huge company behind you, that helps. | 0:36:45 | 0:36:46
But James has something even better now. | 0:36:46 | 0:36:48
He has Alan. | 0:36:48 | 0:36:50
And Alan will open those doors, he will push him forward, | 0:36:50 | 0:36:52
he will help him with the branding. | 0:36:52 | 0:36:54
All the background stuff that you have to do when you set up a | 0:36:54 | 0:36:57
small business, you are not only the finance director, | 0:36:57 | 0:37:00
but you're also the tea lady. You're cleaning the office at night. | 0:37:00 | 0:37:02
Alan will have all that infrastructure taken | 0:37:02 | 0:37:04
care of for him so all he has to concentrate on is the sales. | 0:37:04 | 0:37:08
And he has something unique when he says, | 0:37:08 | 0:37:10
my business partner is Lord Sugar. | 0:37:10 | 0:37:12
-People will say, "Yes, I'll see you." -Yes. | 0:37:12 | 0:37:14
And I think that gives him a huge advantage. | 0:37:14 | 0:37:16
-Yes. -Much more so than you would ever have on your own. | 0:37:16 | 0:37:20
You should have said that in the interviews, when everybody was | 0:37:20 | 0:37:22
saying you haven't got any clout, | 0:37:22 | 0:37:23
you should have said, "Yeah, but Lord Sugar will have my back. | 0:37:23 | 0:37:26
"It'll be fine." | 0:37:26 | 0:37:28
Claude, in the interviews, you picked James up on some... | 0:37:28 | 0:37:32
I think you described them as wildly optimistic or fanciful | 0:37:32 | 0:37:36
trading projections. | 0:37:36 | 0:37:37
Presumably he has a better chance of hitting those targets now? | 0:37:37 | 0:37:40
Well, I think that everyone who comes into the interviews, | 0:37:40 | 0:37:43
they do tend to exaggerate their capabilities and try to show | 0:37:43 | 0:37:48
that year one, they're going to make an enormous amount of profit. | 0:37:48 | 0:37:50
I think they would be best advised to be a bit more sensible about it | 0:37:50 | 0:37:53
because in year one of a typical start-up, | 0:37:53 | 0:37:56
you're not expected to make a profit, so it doesn't really matter. | 0:37:56 | 0:37:59
You've got to show the way... your path. | 0:37:59 | 0:38:01
-So I think your numbers were outrageous... -Yeah, yeah. | 0:38:01 | 0:38:04
..and I'm hoping that you have dialled them down a bit. | 0:38:04 | 0:38:08
Lord Sugar doesn't want to hear that! | 0:38:08 | 0:38:11
Dial them up, dial up. | 0:38:11 | 0:38:13
No, you've got to be realistic about these things. | 0:38:13 | 0:38:15
You chose a very creative team | 0:38:15 | 0:38:18
-and the stuff they came up with sort of reflects that. -Yeah. | 0:38:18 | 0:38:22
Let's have a look at the videos and billboards your team came up with. | 0:38:22 | 0:38:25
You need really to be selecting things | 0:38:25 | 0:38:27
-that relate to an IT industry. -Could be like an IT ninja. | 0:38:27 | 0:38:30
The campaign needs to stand out, we can't be too boring, either. | 0:38:30 | 0:38:32
-It is not a pantomime. -But we have to stand out. | 0:38:32 | 0:38:34
What says credible more than a guy in a suit wearing... | 0:38:34 | 0:38:37
King Charles. King Charles, I bow to you! Yeah. | 0:38:37 | 0:38:39
-How are we looking? How are we looking? -Nah. | 0:38:39 | 0:38:42
You could be a lobster. | 0:38:42 | 0:38:43
Why does he have to be a lobster? | 0:38:43 | 0:38:45
The more random, you are going to stand out. | 0:38:45 | 0:38:47
OK, Charles, leave it on, let's get a photograph. | 0:38:47 | 0:38:49
-OK, fine, fine. -Lovely. | 0:38:49 | 0:38:51
I think that's enough of you dressed up like that. | 0:38:51 | 0:38:53
Charles standing as a lobster... | 0:38:57 | 0:39:00
It's like a drunken photo booth at a wedding! | 0:39:00 | 0:39:02
Me and Charles shared a room and we had a bond like no other. | 0:39:02 | 0:39:06
-You clearly got on really well. -Yeah, yeah. | 0:39:06 | 0:39:08
And I just picked him because I knew he would perform well | 0:39:08 | 0:39:11
-being a lobster... -LAUGHTER | 0:39:11 | 0:39:13
But, no, I knew he would have my back. | 0:39:13 | 0:39:15
I knew he would work hard, same as Elizabeth and Joanna. | 0:39:15 | 0:39:18
And Anisa has a lot of creativity. | 0:39:18 | 0:39:19
So I had a really good team. | 0:39:19 | 0:39:20
Elizabeth, this was the final. | 0:39:20 | 0:39:22
-Yes. -All about James. | 0:39:22 | 0:39:24
-Of course. -And you still took over? -Yes! | 0:39:24 | 0:39:27
Lord Sugar, were you half expecting to see Elizabeth come down the... | 0:39:27 | 0:39:33
Maybe, yeah. | 0:39:33 | 0:39:34
With a lead around his neck. | 0:39:35 | 0:39:37
Maybe. | 0:39:37 | 0:39:38
Elizabeth would be a good face of the firewall cyber security you develop. | 0:39:40 | 0:39:43
"Get out of the way!" | 0:39:43 | 0:39:45
When you try and hack the computer, | 0:39:45 | 0:39:47
"You are not coming into this device!" | 0:39:47 | 0:39:49
We have got your family as well, James, in tonight. | 0:39:51 | 0:39:55
-Where's your family? Dad? -Yes, Dad. | 0:39:55 | 0:39:57
Who have we got, we've got Dad, we've got brother Richard... | 0:39:57 | 0:40:01
-Where's Dad? Dad's name is James? -It's James, yes. | 0:40:01 | 0:40:05
-Yes. -James. | 0:40:05 | 0:40:07
It's a great name, have to carry it on. | 0:40:07 | 0:40:10
What's your brother's name, James? | 0:40:10 | 0:40:13
-It's Stephen James. -Is it? | 0:40:13 | 0:40:15
I was going to ask where he gets his business acumen from. | 0:40:15 | 0:40:18
We know where he gets his name from. | 0:40:18 | 0:40:19
-Does he get his business acumen from you, James? -Absolutely. | 0:40:19 | 0:40:22
You said, I think, James, at one point you said | 0:40:22 | 0:40:24
that your father once sold a coat for 50 grand. | 0:40:24 | 0:40:27
He did, yeah. | 0:40:27 | 0:40:28
What was Lord Sugar like as a customer? | 0:40:28 | 0:40:30
I was going to sell it for 5,000, but I saw him coming | 0:40:32 | 0:40:35
and charged him 50. | 0:40:35 | 0:40:36
Where is brother, brother Richard James? | 0:40:37 | 0:40:40
Has he always had the old catalogue model swagger going on? | 0:40:42 | 0:40:46
Yeah, he has, actually. | 0:40:46 | 0:40:47
Even as a child, just as he would walk into rooms he would | 0:40:47 | 0:40:51
come in with that James smile that we see and just that persona | 0:40:51 | 0:40:56
that James has that has served him so well on the show. | 0:40:56 | 0:40:58
The only thing I would say about that is | 0:40:58 | 0:41:00
don't ever try those curtains again. | 0:41:00 | 0:41:02
I got that from you! | 0:41:02 | 0:41:05
Well, earlier in the process, | 0:41:05 | 0:41:06
we witnessed one of the most amusing mix-ups in Apprentice history | 0:41:06 | 0:41:09
when our plucky candidates found themselves creating | 0:41:09 | 0:41:12
an advert for a brand-new car. | 0:41:12 | 0:41:14
James and his team decided to shoot the ad where no man has ever gone | 0:41:14 | 0:41:19
to film a modern family car ad before. | 0:41:19 | 0:41:22
Now, I think that it could be good to come to an old village, | 0:41:28 | 0:41:31
like a Norman village. | 0:41:31 | 0:41:33
-DRAMATIC MUSIC -We're trying to get the family | 0:41:33 | 0:41:36
out of the house in the morning. We've got to be in a family home. | 0:41:36 | 0:41:38
And then have yourself driving out in a brand-new car... | 0:41:40 | 0:41:44
James, I don't think this is an English village. | 0:41:44 | 0:41:46
I think this is a... | 0:41:46 | 0:41:47
..pretend village. | 0:41:49 | 0:41:52
Oh, my God! Oh, good God! | 0:41:52 | 0:41:54
It's not an English chocolate box village. | 0:41:56 | 0:41:58
I think I was thinking of more of a...uh...small village. | 0:41:59 | 0:42:02
APPLAUSE Happy memories? | 0:42:05 | 0:42:07
-What was... What was... Why? Why, James? Why? -Do you know what? | 0:42:07 | 0:42:11
I have no idea what happened. | 0:42:11 | 0:42:12
I just turned up and I was like, "OK, let's roll with this." | 0:42:12 | 0:42:15
Karren, you were there, you were following James on that task. | 0:42:15 | 0:42:17
Do you have any insight into how they ended up there? | 0:42:17 | 0:42:20
They thought... | 0:42:20 | 0:42:21
All they saw was the word "village," so they were thinking | 0:42:21 | 0:42:24
chocolate box houses, lovely little streams, a cute little place. | 0:42:24 | 0:42:28
But it had in big letters Norman village, and a picture | 0:42:28 | 0:42:33
of exactly... of the man hanging. | 0:42:33 | 0:42:37
You must love it, Lord Sugar, | 0:42:37 | 0:42:39
when things like that happen. You must do. | 0:42:39 | 0:42:41
What happens is I get a phone call from Karren, going, | 0:42:41 | 0:42:45
"You are not going to believe this, you are not going to believe, | 0:42:45 | 0:42:47
"you could not make this up, at the moment, | 0:42:47 | 0:42:50
"where we are, with a new.. brand-new car | 0:42:50 | 0:42:53
"from one of the major manufacturers in the world | 0:42:53 | 0:42:56
"and we're stuck here with a load of geese." | 0:42:56 | 0:42:58
Did you call Lord Sugar on a tin with an old wire? | 0:42:58 | 0:43:03
-The car got attacked, actually, by a peacock. -Did it? | 0:43:03 | 0:43:05
Yeah, it got a dent in it. We had to take it back. | 0:43:05 | 0:43:09
They weren't impressed. | 0:43:09 | 0:43:10
It is time for another award. | 0:43:10 | 0:43:12
Once again, our candidates have been on fine form in the talking | 0:43:12 | 0:43:15
department, spoiling us with sterling speeches, | 0:43:15 | 0:43:17
pithy putdowns, and memorable mumbles. | 0:43:17 | 0:43:20
This next YFEBA is for quote of the series. | 0:43:20 | 0:43:23
Let's take a look at the front-runners. | 0:43:23 | 0:43:26
And the nominees are... | 0:43:28 | 0:43:29
Elizabeth for a classic carnivorous confession. | 0:43:30 | 0:43:34
I had my hands in that meat, and I mixed it. | 0:43:34 | 0:43:37
Michaela's pithy review of Bushra's management skills. | 0:43:37 | 0:43:41
-Well... -She's a bellend. | 0:43:41 | 0:43:43
Sinead, I mean Siobhan for her takedown of Gemma, I mean Elizabeth. | 0:43:43 | 0:43:47
We're getting there now, aren't we, Sinead? Do you... | 0:43:47 | 0:43:50
-It's not Sinead, it's Siobhan, yeah? -I'm sorry, Siobhan. -If you don't remember it, don't say it. | 0:43:50 | 0:43:54
Or Harrison for managing to look a right Antwerp | 0:43:54 | 0:43:57
despite being in Bruges. | 0:43:57 | 0:43:59
If you look around, you can just see, | 0:43:59 | 0:44:01
there's people everywhere, literally. | 0:44:01 | 0:44:03
And the winner is... | 0:44:07 | 0:44:09
Elizabeth! | 0:44:09 | 0:44:11
For her meaty mix. | 0:44:11 | 0:44:13
APPLAUSE | 0:44:13 | 0:44:15
Elizabeth, congratulations. | 0:44:20 | 0:44:22
-Thank you. -Well done. There is your YFEBA. | 0:44:22 | 0:44:24
Quote of the series. How do you feel? | 0:44:24 | 0:44:27
Aw, it's lovely. Thank you. | 0:44:27 | 0:44:29
I'm not going to lie to you, quote of the series, | 0:44:29 | 0:44:31
we could almost have picked pretty much anything you said. | 0:44:31 | 0:44:34
I've got a big mouth, haven't I? | 0:44:34 | 0:44:35
I've got lots of things come out of it at any given point. | 0:44:35 | 0:44:38
You've been very entertaining. Elizabeth, ladies and gentlemen. | 0:44:38 | 0:44:41
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE | 0:44:41 | 0:44:43
Woo. | 0:44:44 | 0:44:46 | |
All our lovely candidates are sitting up there. | 0:44:46 | 0:44:49
This year's candidates. I thought I would do something just for you. | 0:44:49 | 0:44:53
You haven't, of course, won Lord Sugar's investment | 0:44:53 | 0:44:56
but that doesn't mean you can't have a nice Christmas. | 0:44:56 | 0:44:58
If you reach under your seats, folks, | 0:44:58 | 0:45:00
I have put a little Christmas present under there | 0:45:00 | 0:45:03
for each of you. Don't unwrap them yet. | 0:45:03 | 0:45:05
If you just take them out. I'm going to ask Russell to | 0:45:05 | 0:45:07
head up there amongst you and supervise the unwrapping of the Christmas gifts. | 0:45:07 | 0:45:11
Russell, would you like to pop up into the audience there? | 0:45:11 | 0:45:14
It would be my pleasure. It's another Apprentice first. | 0:45:14 | 0:45:16
Has anyone ever got out of their seat before and invaded the audience? | 0:45:16 | 0:45:19
-I don't think so. -Another first, ladies and gentlemen. -Another first. | 0:45:19 | 0:45:22
Ladies and gentlemen, Mr Russell Kane. | 0:45:22 | 0:45:24
I feel a bit starstruck. Does everyone feel a bit starstruck seeing these guys? | 0:45:26 | 0:45:29
Sitting next to them. Oh, my God, I can't even face you. | 0:45:29 | 0:45:31
You can start unwrapping your presents now, | 0:45:31 | 0:45:33
to see what you've all got. | 0:45:33 | 0:45:35
Sorry, Harrison. It's just lads, though, innit? It's banter. Wahey! | 0:45:35 | 0:45:38
LAUGHTER | 0:45:38 | 0:45:40
Harrison, look at all these people, it's amazing, isn't it? | 0:45:40 | 0:45:42
So, Andrew, what have you got there? | 0:45:42 | 0:45:46
So, mine, surprisingly, is a beer, with vodka, gin, and whisky finish. | 0:45:46 | 0:45:49
That is guaranteed to get you off your nut. | 0:45:49 | 0:45:51
And this is of course because you were taking people on a beer | 0:45:51 | 0:45:54
tour in cultural Bruges and was focused on them having a skinful. | 0:45:54 | 0:45:57
-Yeah. -How much is a skinful, just for viewers at home? | 0:45:57 | 0:46:00
To about there. So the rest of it | 0:46:00 | 0:46:02
is just alcohol. And you've just got, you know, just enough. | 0:46:02 | 0:46:04
And how long was it after you were fired into your taxi | 0:46:04 | 0:46:06
journey before you were off your nut in the taxi? | 0:46:06 | 0:46:08
Euston station. | 0:46:08 | 0:46:10
That's the type of stable investment you were | 0:46:10 | 0:46:12
looking for, Lord Sugar. | 0:46:12 | 0:46:13
There you go. | 0:46:14 | 0:46:16
So, Harrison, while you're there, what have you been gifted? | 0:46:16 | 0:46:18
-Let's have a little look. -A tiny little box | 0:46:18 | 0:46:20
with a tiny little thimble of yoghurt. | 0:46:20 | 0:46:23
It's a thimble of yoghurt. | 0:46:23 | 0:46:26
Now, I have actually been inspired since watching that | 0:46:26 | 0:46:30
and I've experimented with a few others. | 0:46:30 | 0:46:32
I had a pinhead of sour cream with my nachos the other day. | 0:46:32 | 0:46:35
That will do, at least, what, a family full. | 0:46:35 | 0:46:38
-So, I'm happy, yeah. -I'd keep it away from Andrew, | 0:46:38 | 0:46:41
he'll probably neck it, thinking it's a sambuca. | 0:46:41 | 0:46:43
Harrison, ladies and gentlemen. Absolute legend. | 0:46:43 | 0:46:46
Ah, there you are, Siobhan. | 0:46:48 | 0:46:49
-Sinead. -Sinead? Yes, stand up, please, Sinead. | 0:46:49 | 0:46:53
So, of course, you famously over-ordered the wine in Wembley, | 0:46:54 | 0:46:58
collapsing the whole economics of your task. | 0:46:58 | 0:47:01
So, if you would like to talk us through your gift. | 0:47:01 | 0:47:03
I think we've got one of the bottles that was left. | 0:47:03 | 0:47:06
Siobhanignon blanc. | 0:47:06 | 0:47:08
We've got a Siobhanignon blanc. | 0:47:08 | 0:47:10
Now, how do you feel about the amount of wine you ordered on that task? | 0:47:10 | 0:47:13
There won't be a dry night, that's what I'm about. | 0:47:13 | 0:47:16
We had a sample of your wine, and after half the supply, | 0:47:16 | 0:47:19
Harrison did actually sound like Frank Sinatra, it was amazing. | 0:47:19 | 0:47:23
Thank you, Siobhan, ladies and gentlemen. | 0:47:23 | 0:47:25
Anisa, up you get. | 0:47:25 | 0:47:28
So, if you'd like to talk us through your gift. | 0:47:28 | 0:47:31
My special gift is a Bruges factfinder with some pens, | 0:47:31 | 0:47:35
which I'm thinking is how Charles could work out | 0:47:35 | 0:47:37
where we're going to go and actually not get us lost this time. | 0:47:37 | 0:47:40
And I can remember the facts. It would be great. | 0:47:40 | 0:47:42
So, you are not a fan of facts, are you? | 0:47:42 | 0:47:43
No. I've said it about a million times, | 0:47:43 | 0:47:46
I don't like the facts. | 0:47:46 | 0:47:47
1089 mean anything? | 0:47:47 | 0:47:49
-No. -The year it became capital of Flanders. Sit down, Anisa. | 0:47:49 | 0:47:52
Now, who am I looking for? | 0:47:52 | 0:47:54
I'm looking for Danny. Is Danny anywhere? | 0:47:54 | 0:47:56
-Oh, sorry, mate. Stand up. Danny, how are you? -I'm all right. | 0:47:56 | 0:48:00
-You all right? -I thought you were the nuts, I thought you went out early. -I agree with that. | 0:48:00 | 0:48:04
We're not going to do any jokes about how you went out early, | 0:48:04 | 0:48:07
that would be cruel, so just talk us through which gift you got. | 0:48:07 | 0:48:10
I've got a DVD box set of episode 2 to 13. | 0:48:10 | 0:48:13
LAUGHTER | 0:48:13 | 0:48:15
Merry Christmas, Danny. Bye. | 0:48:15 | 0:48:18
Joanna, if I could just... | 0:48:18 | 0:48:20
-I can't quite see you, sorry, mate. -LAUGHTER | 0:48:20 | 0:48:23
Aargh, my corneas! | 0:48:23 | 0:48:24
Hello, Joanna, how are you? | 0:48:24 | 0:48:27
-Good. Good, thank you. -It's good to see you. | 0:48:27 | 0:48:30
So, if you'd like to talk us through your gift. | 0:48:30 | 0:48:32
Let's have a quick look at it. What's that? | 0:48:32 | 0:48:34
It's a paper trophy. | 0:48:34 | 0:48:36
Do you know why we have given Joanna a paper trophy? | 0:48:36 | 0:48:38
It's because on paper, you were the strongest candidate. | 0:48:38 | 0:48:41
Eight out of ten wins, ladies and gentlemen. | 0:48:41 | 0:48:43
-Thank you. -APPLAUSE AND CHEERING | 0:48:43 | 0:48:46
It would've been nice to maybe have a voucher for a £250,000 investment. | 0:48:46 | 0:48:51
That would have been a nice paper trophy. | 0:48:51 | 0:48:53
But, yeah, amazing that they've both won. So, yeah. | 0:48:53 | 0:48:56
You'll always be a winner to me, Joanna. | 0:48:56 | 0:48:58
-Ah, thank you. -Joanna, ladies and gentlemen. | 0:48:58 | 0:49:00
Russell Kane, ladies and gentlemen. Give him a round of applause as he comes back to his seat. | 0:49:00 | 0:49:04
Well, it is the final, | 0:49:07 | 0:49:08
and everyone except me gets a highlights reel | 0:49:08 | 0:49:10
so Lord Sugar, relax, sit back, | 0:49:10 | 0:49:12
and enjoy our highlights of you in the Apprentice 2017. | 0:49:12 | 0:49:17
Bring it! | 0:49:17 | 0:49:18
You should've gone ker-ching! at that point. | 0:49:21 | 0:49:23
When I came into this boardroom, I half expected you to be sitting in this chair. | 0:49:25 | 0:49:29
They've kicked your arse, haven't they? That's for sure. | 0:49:30 | 0:49:33
You look like you're constipated. | 0:49:35 | 0:49:36
-Did you use that to help you out? -Yes, I did. | 0:49:39 | 0:49:41
Don't give up your dream. You still have the passion for it. Go for it. | 0:49:43 | 0:49:47
Like a delivery from Ann Summers, actually. Very discreet. | 0:49:49 | 0:49:52
-How'd you know that? -Well... | 0:49:52 | 0:49:53
I've been told, mate. | 0:49:53 | 0:49:55
APPLAUSE | 0:49:55 | 0:50:00
So, that was this year, Lord Sugar. Next year... | 0:50:00 | 0:50:03
Next year, what are you looking for? | 0:50:03 | 0:50:05
People often say, well, you know, how do you carry on doing it? | 0:50:05 | 0:50:10
Well, because first of all, | 0:50:10 | 0:50:11
I've got this passion for going into business with people. | 0:50:11 | 0:50:14
I'm really enjoying this mentoring and making them successful. | 0:50:14 | 0:50:19
It's kind of like an achievement for me, let alone the individual. | 0:50:19 | 0:50:23
But we get a different bunch of characters every year. You know. | 0:50:23 | 0:50:27
And it's the characters that make the programme. | 0:50:27 | 0:50:30
What happens now for you and James? | 0:50:30 | 0:50:32
Well, um, he's now got to put his words into practice, obviously. | 0:50:32 | 0:50:37
Our contract between each other, our shareholders' | 0:50:37 | 0:50:39
agreement between each other will be done very quickly, | 0:50:39 | 0:50:42
I'll be injecting the money into the company immediately. | 0:50:42 | 0:50:45
And it's up to him now to go out and start bringing in the revenue. | 0:50:45 | 0:50:51
-You got to put his money where your mouth is. -Yeah. | 0:50:51 | 0:50:55
Let's hear from some previous Apprentice winners, | 0:50:55 | 0:50:57
James, just to get a few tips from some previous winners up there for you. | 0:50:57 | 0:51:00
We've got Ricky Martin, 2012. | 0:51:00 | 0:51:03
Ricky, next to you Mark Wright, 2014 of course. | 0:51:03 | 0:51:07
Ricky, you met up with James ahead of that final pitch, | 0:51:07 | 0:51:11
you switched him on very much onto the cyber security. | 0:51:11 | 0:51:15
Do you feel a responsibility to try and help him win? | 0:51:15 | 0:51:19
Absolutely, you've got to think, he's a recruiter, | 0:51:19 | 0:51:21
I'm a recruiter, what I do with the business is I get people jobs | 0:51:21 | 0:51:24
and help them achieve their goals. | 0:51:24 | 0:51:26
If I can't do that for James, my business isn't doing very well. | 0:51:26 | 0:51:29
So, essentially, the pressure is on, but never let anyone down. | 0:51:29 | 0:51:32
He's going to be your competition though. | 0:51:32 | 0:51:34
-Good luck, though. -JAMES: -Friendly competition already. | 0:51:34 | 0:51:38
-Mark, you won in 2014, of course. -Yep. | 0:51:38 | 0:51:42
You and Lord Sugar run a digital marketing agency. | 0:51:42 | 0:51:46
What will the next few months be like immediately for James now? | 0:51:46 | 0:51:50
The number one question I get asked is, is the £250,000 real? | 0:51:50 | 0:51:55
And how often do you see Lord Sugar? | 0:51:55 | 0:51:57
They are the two questions I always get asked. | 0:51:57 | 0:51:59
And the answers are, the first week, Lord Sugar opens a bank account | 0:51:59 | 0:52:02
and puts £250,000 into the account, | 0:52:02 | 0:52:05
and straightaway he's on the phone, he's on the e-mail, | 0:52:05 | 0:52:08
and it's really a baptism by fire, to be honest with you. | 0:52:08 | 0:52:11
He will make you successful | 0:52:11 | 0:52:13
and as long as you are prepared to work hard and listen to the mentors | 0:52:13 | 0:52:17
and advisers Lord Sugar has put in place, you will be successful. | 0:52:17 | 0:52:21
Is it scary as well as exciting? | 0:52:21 | 0:52:23
It's bloody frightening, to be honest. | 0:52:23 | 0:52:26
Yeah. I'm still scared. So, cheers, James. | 0:52:26 | 0:52:28
Well, time for our final award. | 0:52:28 | 0:52:31
Against the clock our candidates have had to think on their feet, | 0:52:31 | 0:52:34
producing some fine, creative excuses. | 0:52:34 | 0:52:36
So, let's see who our best blaggers are. | 0:52:36 | 0:52:39
And the nominees are... | 0:52:41 | 0:52:44
Elliot for his desperate attempt to explain why their robot has | 0:52:44 | 0:52:47
mysteriously changed his name. | 0:52:47 | 0:52:49
We say his name is Jeffrey, OK? | 0:52:49 | 0:52:52
But his family name is Simon. | 0:52:52 | 0:52:55
Jade for her fumbling, faltering fudge of a fashion show. | 0:52:55 | 0:52:58
The last Dawn on... | 0:52:58 | 0:53:01
The last Dawn on Mars collection, you're not going to be able to get | 0:53:01 | 0:53:04
this anywhere else and have that really quality | 0:53:04 | 0:53:08
based ingredient. | 0:53:08 | 0:53:10
Bushra for bigging up her eyesight to blag | 0:53:10 | 0:53:13
the role of official Apprentice photographer. | 0:53:13 | 0:53:15
I haven't done any photography myself | 0:53:15 | 0:53:17
but I'm pretty good with the eye. | 0:53:17 | 0:53:20
And Charles for his stoic refusal to admit he's lost. | 0:53:20 | 0:53:23
Charles, where are we going? | 0:53:23 | 0:53:25
So, we are just on the other side of the lake that I want us | 0:53:25 | 0:53:27
to be on, but it is absolutely fine, we are | 0:53:27 | 0:53:29
still parallel to where I want to be. | 0:53:29 | 0:53:31
And the winner is... Bushra. | 0:53:33 | 0:53:35
APPLAUSE Come on down, Bushra. | 0:53:35 | 0:53:37
Congratulations, Bushra. Congratulations. | 0:53:44 | 0:53:47
A terrible pitch there for the photography contract. | 0:53:47 | 0:53:49
But, amazingly, you won. | 0:53:49 | 0:53:51
I know. After all, maybe I don't have bad eyes, you know. | 0:53:51 | 0:53:54
I've got an award for it now. | 0:53:54 | 0:53:56
Congratulations. Ladies and gentlemen, Bushra. | 0:53:56 | 0:53:58
Now, every morning, just as day is dawning, | 0:54:01 | 0:54:04
or sometimes much earlier, | 0:54:04 | 0:54:05
the peace is shattered in the Apprentice house | 0:54:05 | 0:54:07
and our candidates come crashing, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, | 0:54:07 | 0:54:10
to the foot of the stairs. | 0:54:10 | 0:54:12
Yes, that's right, it's all thanks to the Apprentice phone, | 0:54:12 | 0:54:15
and this year, for the first time ever, it has its very own special tribute. | 0:54:15 | 0:54:19
PHONE RINGS | 0:54:21 | 0:54:23
# I sometimes see you pass outside my door. # | 0:54:27 | 0:54:33
Hello? | 0:54:36 | 0:54:37
LAUGHTER # Is it me you're looking for? | 0:54:37 | 0:54:40
# I can see it... # HANGS UP | 0:54:40 | 0:54:42
Boys, wake up. | 0:54:44 | 0:54:46
# Hello. # | 0:54:47 | 0:54:49
You were, um... | 0:54:50 | 0:54:52
If you don't mind me saying, I couldn't help noticing, James, | 0:54:52 | 0:54:54
-that you were often first down to the phone. -Was I? | 0:54:54 | 0:54:57
-Yeah. -I don't remember. I don't remember ever. | 0:54:57 | 0:54:59
It's strange. Never quite dressed, but you were often first... | 0:54:59 | 0:55:02
I felt very sorry for you, mate. | 0:55:02 | 0:55:04
Your embarrassing six-pack hanging out. | 0:55:04 | 0:55:07
Anyway, your gift, we thought we'd get you something so you | 0:55:07 | 0:55:11
never have to suffer the indignity of having to answer | 0:55:11 | 0:55:13
-the phone in your boxer shorts again. -OK. | 0:55:13 | 0:55:15
We have got you a rather beautiful Apprentice 2017 winner's | 0:55:15 | 0:55:21
dressing gown. | 0:55:21 | 0:55:23
Specifically... | 0:55:23 | 0:55:25
got Lord Sugar, Karren, and Claude on the back there. | 0:55:25 | 0:55:29
Beautiful image. | 0:55:29 | 0:55:31
Try that, mate. That's it. | 0:55:31 | 0:55:33
Oh, and one more thing. Stay there, stay there. | 0:55:33 | 0:55:35
We've made an especially large pocket. | 0:55:35 | 0:55:37
This pocket has been adapted to allow your very own landline. | 0:55:37 | 0:55:40
You can answer it if you like. There you go. | 0:55:40 | 0:55:42
Hello. | 0:55:42 | 0:55:44
What's that? James's car will be there in 20 minutes? | 0:55:46 | 0:55:49
James, you've been a fantastic candidate. | 0:55:49 | 0:55:52
Congratulations. James, ladies and gentlemen. | 0:55:52 | 0:55:54
That's nearly it for this year's Apprentice. | 0:55:56 | 0:55:58
If you think you have what it takes to be Lord Sugar's business | 0:55:58 | 0:56:01
partner, applications are still open to take part in next year's series. | 0:56:01 | 0:56:04
Head over to bbc.co.uk/apprentice for more details. | 0:56:04 | 0:56:09
Thank you to my guests Russell Kane, Karren Brady, Claude Littner, | 0:56:09 | 0:56:12
and, of course, Lord Sugar. | 0:56:12 | 0:56:14
James, congratulations. Once again, let's have a look at your highlights. | 0:56:17 | 0:56:20
Hello, there. How are you doing? | 0:56:22 | 0:56:23
I think I've got a natural aura of infectiousness. | 0:56:23 | 0:56:27
All about the money. | 0:56:27 | 0:56:28
Get some bubbles on, boys. | 0:56:28 | 0:56:30
James is genuinely a proper sound guy. Very funny. | 0:56:30 | 0:56:34
I've had some right laughs with James. | 0:56:34 | 0:56:36
HE LAUGHS | 0:56:36 | 0:56:37
James is a very lovely guy with a very warm heart. | 0:56:39 | 0:56:42
Down like that, and then you end up like that. | 0:56:46 | 0:56:49
That's it. Freak it! | 0:56:49 | 0:56:51
James and I, we have a great laugh together. | 0:56:51 | 0:56:53
We, I don't know, we have this insane | 0:56:53 | 0:56:55
connection, like brothers from another mother, quite literally. | 0:56:55 | 0:56:59
THEY LAUGH | 0:56:59 | 0:57:01
APPLAUSE | 0:57:01 | 0:57:04
Ladies and gentlemen, Lord Sugar's new business partners | 0:57:05 | 0:57:08
and Apprentice winners 2017, James White and Sarah Lynn. | 0:57:08 | 0:57:13
APPLAUSE AND CHEERING | 0:57:13 | 0:57:15
Thank you, have a Merry Christmas, and good night. Cheers. | 0:57:15 | 0:57:18 |
