There are some brilliant shows on TV tonight and over the weekend, so

:00:08.:00:13.

Aled and I are here to guide you through the ones to watch. But

:00:14.:00:18.

first, a quick look through last night's top ten. The celebrities are

:00:19.:00:25.

waiting on the ground and they have no idea what lies ahead. Do you Love

:00:26.:00:32.

me or not? Why are you asking me a question like that now? Because I

:00:33.:00:39.

need to know. Join me for a drink. Do you want a conga line? It would

:00:40.:00:43.

be fun! APPLAUSE

:00:44.:00:48.

I am very obedient by nature. I don't think I have ever eaten and

:00:49.:00:51.

after eight meant before eight o'clock. -- after eight meant. Oh,

:00:52.:01:02.

my God. People who are good at dancing have shorter teeth value. --

:01:03.:01:10.

shorter teeth than you. APPLAUSE

:01:11.:01:18.

Hello, hello, and welcome to TMTV. It's Friday the 4th of March and

:01:19.:01:22.

onto night's show we are going big on drama. Star off The Night Manager

:01:23.:01:30.

joins us on the show -- sofa. And we are talking Tosh, AKA actress Alison

:01:31.:01:36.

O'Donnell. Sara and I will be battling it out to find out who

:01:37.:01:40.

knows most about TV in the Friday night quiz. First, some of the shows

:01:41.:01:46.

we think you should watch. It's Mr Selfridge, we have followed Harry

:01:47.:01:51.

Selfridge as he revolutionised the world of London retail, beginning in

:01:52.:01:54.

Edwardian times. Now we are in the Roaring 20s, as we approach the end

:01:55.:01:58.

of the final series Mr Selfridge, played by Jeremy Piven, has a

:01:59.:02:04.

proposition for friend and entrepreneur Jeremy Delyn. It's been

:02:05.:02:14.

a troubling year. Cut. I can't imagine what you are planning. A

:02:15.:02:18.

huge public spectacle. We hope to take over all of Archer Street,

:02:19.:02:25.

something that big. Now that Whiteley's is on an even keel I need

:02:26.:02:29.

to leave it in your hands for a while and concentrate on the

:02:30.:02:35.

anniversary. Whatever you need. Whatever you need, so that ship --

:02:36.:02:41.

the store will be left in his hands. Jimmy is not a man to be trusted,

:02:42.:02:46.

and understatement of the year. Of the year! Thank you for backing me.

:02:47.:02:51.

On Friday night there's a really good option, if you ask me. Fun fact

:02:52.:02:57.

for you. I love your Friday fun facts. That building he has just

:02:58.:03:01.

bought, Whiteley's, that is on the screen now, is actually where we are

:03:02.:03:05.

sitting right now. Our TV studio is just there, you can see Sara waving.

:03:06.:03:10.

Hello, upon the third floor, it's like they are coming towards us. It

:03:11.:03:15.

makes me feel dizzy. Mr Selfridge, 9pm tonight, don't miss it. If it is

:03:16.:03:19.

pure entertainment you are after, one for all the family, this is for

:03:20.:03:26.

you, hosted by Dermot O'Leary and starring Top Gear's the star gives

:03:27.:03:30.

BBC One's The Getaway Car. Couples attempt to complete a car assault

:03:31.:03:33.

course, it's amazing, including the hilarious Hazard Highway. Are you

:03:34.:03:43.

OK? Oh, my God. Were going up, we're going up. Tell her to exit stage

:03:44.:03:49.

right. # let let it go # Let it go

:03:50.:03:55.

# The wind and the sky # Let it go #.

:03:56.:04:02.

I enjoy singing frozen! I love it. Brilliant. It's such a good show,

:04:03.:04:07.

you can watch it with the kids and relax and know there isn't any saucy

:04:08.:04:11.

dancers coming high kicking out. It's good, clean fun. Dermot is

:04:12.:04:15.

great. I'd love to have a go at that assault course. You are so bossy I

:04:16.:04:20.

can't imagine being in the passenger seat with you driving. It's a good

:04:21.:04:25.

test for marriages, friendships and relationships on the assault course.

:04:26.:04:30.

It's really, really good. On tomorrow night, 6:10pm on BBC One.

:04:31.:04:34.

Now for something a little different, a US series that everyone

:04:35.:04:38.

has been talking about since it started three years ago. Its

:04:39.:04:44.

political drama house of starring Kevin -- starring Kevin Spacey. It's

:04:45.:04:48.

available via Netflix and has the production values of a Hollywood

:04:49.:04:53.

movie plus some. Kevin Spacey plays Frank Underwood, the fictional

:04:54.:04:55.

president of the United States and if you are thinking of voting for

:04:56.:04:58.

him, don't, because he's slightly worse than... Donald Trump.

:04:59.:05:04.

President Frank is up to his old tricks. Doug tells me you greeted

:05:05.:05:09.

him with a firearm. We've been having some issues. Do you know what

:05:10.:05:15.

fascinates me about guns? A bullet comes out faster than the speed of

:05:16.:05:19.

sound and if you are on the wrong end of the bullet it hits you before

:05:20.:05:22.

you even hear it. I want you to hear me, Leann. You will walk away from

:05:23.:05:26.

this nonsense with Claire. You will not make a phone call, nor and

:05:27.:05:29.

someone, you will offer no explanation. Whatever you discussed

:05:30.:05:33.

with my wife, you will erase it from your mind and never speak of it

:05:34.:05:38.

again. Tell me I have been heard. Yes, I heard you. Good. Good, good.

:05:39.:05:47.

It really is good. He's the master of the threatening one-liner, he

:05:48.:05:50.

really, really is. This is such a brilliant show. I haven't watched

:05:51.:05:55.

all of it. You have to. On Netflix you can watch all of the new series

:05:56.:05:59.

on one go, it's all there since early this morning and series one,

:06:00.:06:05.

two three are there too. The new series for top trending on Twitter,

:06:06.:06:09.

many bingeing on this, you will be doing it over the weekend no doubt.

:06:10.:06:12.

If you want to spend your weekend watching what -- watching House Of

:06:13.:06:18.

Cards, go for it, we won't judge. Now to Gardeners' World, where

:06:19.:06:22.

tonight, 8:30pm on BBC Two, this is sweet, it is Monty Don and he is

:06:23.:06:27.

giving us pause for thought. Nice. You may have noticed there's an

:06:28.:06:34.

extra dog, two Nigels, or a Nigel and a half, this is Nell, who is

:06:35.:06:39.

keen on the biscuit. There you are, Nigel. We have seen a bit of her but

:06:40.:06:43.

she's completely naughty, unlike Nigel, so to a certain extent you

:06:44.:06:48.

are a bit of a wild card, aren't you? Come on. Thank goodness Frank

:06:49.:06:51.

Underwood doesn't present Gardeners' World, just watch series one, the

:06:52.:06:57.

first episode. Yes, I know about that, enough said. How cute is Nell?

:06:58.:07:02.

Very sweet. Those are some of the programmes on offer this weekend, we

:07:03.:07:05.

will give you more recommendations later on in the show. Is one of the

:07:06.:07:09.

most enthralling dramas of the year and we're only in two. The Night

:07:10.:07:18.

Manager, a spy thriller based on the novel by John le Carre. What? Your

:07:19.:07:24.

cover is blown sky-high, you are on every wanted list on earth. What are

:07:25.:07:30.

you doing in here? I wonder who you really are? It's so good, here to

:07:31.:07:36.

tell is all about it, one of the show's stars, Alistair Petrie. How

:07:37.:07:44.

are you? Very good. I can't believe was only seen two episodes because I

:07:45.:07:47.

feel so embroiled with it but it feels like there's just stuff

:07:48.:07:51.

bubbling under. You can catch up, make sure you catch up and watch it

:07:52.:07:55.

again this Sunday. Tell is exactly what's going on so far? The Night

:07:56.:08:00.

Manager is based on the novel by John le Carre, obviously, one of the

:08:01.:08:03.

great spy thriller writers of our time. So far, the story concerns Tom

:08:04.:08:09.

Hiddleston, who plays Jonathan, who has been recruited by an offshoot of

:08:10.:08:13.

the secret services to infiltrate the world of Richard Roper, the

:08:14.:08:20.

worst man in the world. It's quite a title, isn't it? Not bad, good for

:08:21.:08:25.

job interviews. There he is, and he's an arms dealer and a very

:08:26.:08:30.

wealthy arms dealer, and thereby hangs the tale. And how do you come

:08:31.:08:36.

wealthy arms dealer, and thereby into it? You play Sunday. Sandy

:08:37.:08:38.

Langbourne, I am Richard Roper is's lawyer, one of his two right-hand

:08:39.:08:42.

men and it is Tom Hiddleston who coined a good phrase, he said you

:08:43.:08:47.

two have drunk from the same cup of poison. Good line. It's very astute.

:08:48.:08:55.

This has such an incredible cast. It does, it's a fabulous group of

:08:56.:09:00.

unknowns. Olivia Colman, we've never heard of her. It's a blessing to

:09:01.:09:06.

first job. It is, it's amazing. The cast list, there isn't anyone I

:09:07.:09:12.

haven't heard of. It's fantastic. What a group. You are attracted to

:09:13.:09:15.

the script and the story and the team that were put together and

:09:16.:09:19.

everyone basically came running. Tellers about Hugh Laurie, he's

:09:20.:09:23.

really sinister in this. The worst is yet to come. Big-time, episode

:09:24.:09:29.

three, not giving anything away, you get a whiff of the team. He's a big

:09:30.:09:35.

fan of John le Carre. He is, he wanted to option the novel when it

:09:36.:09:39.

first came out. He wanted to Blake Tom Huddlestone's part. And he

:09:40.:09:43.

himself would say those days alas were gone but of course there is

:09:44.:09:47.

equally a sensational part to be taken on and as one of the nicest

:09:48.:09:52.

men on the planet to take on the role of the bad guy is, you know...

:09:53.:09:57.

You have your own little storyline going on, not getting on with your

:09:58.:10:01.

wife very well. Yes, that, yes, things are afoot. By Tash and --

:10:02.:10:07.

myself and Natasha Little, who plays my wife, the story starts to unfold.

:10:08.:10:15.

You have been in action films, huge film sets, but this looks like a

:10:16.:10:18.

film. Did it feel like it when you are making it? It really did. We

:10:19.:10:24.

were in exotic locations and we had one director, Susannah beer, an

:10:25.:10:28.

Oscar-winning director, who had -- directed the whole thing and

:10:29.:10:32.

normally you get two different directors so we had continuity. The

:10:33.:10:35.

BBC were extraordinary, they said you guys know what you are doing,

:10:36.:10:41.

get on with it. As did the Americans, because it's a

:10:42.:10:43.

co-production in America. We were incredibly lucky to do it. We get to

:10:44.:10:48.

work in Whiteleys, you get to travel the world. Yes, yes. It's beautiful

:10:49.:10:55.

here, this time of year. I haven't even got shoes on! We have snaps of

:10:56.:11:01.

the amazing places, working hard, that's one of yours. That's 7am, I

:11:02.:11:08.

think. Oh, you typical actor! Was that for the role? No, it wasn't, we

:11:09.:11:13.

were based in Marrakesh for the shooting and one night in Casablanca

:11:14.:11:16.

we shot in the port, an extraordinary location. Can we get

:11:17.:11:24.

that off the screen! That was... That was a day off. We were filming

:11:25.:11:32.

That Revenant. They were my toes, sending it back to my family to stay

:11:33.:11:38.

hard at work,... Really miss you guys. That's actually... Oh, yes,

:11:39.:11:42.

another hard day at the office! LAUGHTER

:11:43.:11:48.

What are you eating there? That's a fish finger sandwich. It doesn't

:11:49.:11:53.

look like it. Might be lobster. It was a day off. When it goes out on

:11:54.:11:57.

the telly, have you been watching it? Do you like to see things and

:11:58.:12:02.

how they have been put together? You get bits and bobs during the

:12:03.:12:05.

postproduction phase but you want to watch it with the audience and

:12:06.:12:09.

because of the nature of social media you get this instant feedback

:12:10.:12:13.

on how people are embracing the show and going with the show and to watch

:12:14.:12:17.

it as the audience do is terribly exciting. I haven't seen it, I'm

:12:18.:12:22.

watching it as an episode week by week. Apart from watching yourself

:12:23.:12:26.

on television, which obviously you do a lot of, do you watch any other

:12:27.:12:34.

TV? Just me. I have a family so my boys, it's a birthday tomorrow,

:12:35.:12:38.

happy birthday for tomorrow, but my eldest as well is now nearly 16 soak

:12:39.:12:43.

he has immense incredible taste when it comes to drama, so we get to sit

:12:44.:12:47.

on the safer as a family. I'd argue there isn't too much TV, there is

:12:48.:12:51.

just fantastic TV on, something for everybody, and the drama series is

:12:52.:12:54.

second to none so we are exploring those as a family, which is great.

:12:55.:12:59.

You mentioned earlier that when you did the first read-through for the

:13:00.:13:02.

script there was a mystery person in the room who introduced themselves?

:13:03.:13:11.

An extraordinary group of people, the cast list, going around

:13:12.:13:13.

introducing ourselves before we read the script and we had costumes,

:13:14.:13:15.

props, everyone goes around the table, the usual thing during a

:13:16.:13:19.

first read-through and there was an elderly, elegant gentleman sitting

:13:20.:13:22.

at the end of the table and we all had our nametags in front of us and

:13:23.:13:26.

his said David Cornwell and we thought, who's that? It got to him

:13:27.:13:30.

and he said my name is David Cornwell and I wrote the novel. We

:13:31.:13:35.

all went, I'll! It's him! Its John le Carre, we were all terribly

:13:36.:13:41.

starstruck. He was on such quite a lot? He was on set, a big supporter

:13:42.:13:46.

of the peace and if you look carefully, he does appear. Yes, so #

:13:47.:13:56.

I spotted David Cornwall. He does appear so spot him, if you can.

:13:57.:14:02.

Episode three of six Will air this Sunday, 9pm, BBC One, we can't wait.

:14:03.:14:08.

It's fantastic. You will hang around to host the Friday quiz. Thank you

:14:09.:14:10.

very much. I am just hearing from the director

:14:11.:14:20.

we can get some shots on screen, is that right? Police in America have

:14:21.:14:27.

revealed they are testing and knife found at the former home of OJ

:14:28.:14:32.

Simpson, it is all over TV news as you can see from these incredible

:14:33.:14:37.

pictures, could this have more twists 21 years on? Unbelievable. On

:14:38.:14:44.

Monday at 9pm on BBC Two they have been airing the people versus OJ

:14:45.:14:49.

Simpson, American crime drama, it is a fictionalised drama and this is

:14:50.:14:56.

what you have been saying about it. What is your name? How many years

:14:57.:15:03.

where you married to Nicole Brown Simpson? Seven. Have you ever

:15:04.:15:14.

thought about killing the call? No. It is very much a series that you

:15:15.:15:17.

didn't want to like but somehow it is compelling viewing. We are here

:15:18.:15:23.

because of the death of your ex-wife. We found a trail of blood.

:15:24.:15:29.

Because you know the outcome I think it takes away the element of the

:15:30.:15:33.

unknown but that said I have been drawn into the drama and it is very

:15:34.:15:40.

insightful and compelling. Pretty crazy, they made him black. It is so

:15:41.:15:48.

heartfelt and emotional that it did make me question if he really did

:15:49.:15:53.

it. I couldn't have done it, I swear, there is no way I could have

:15:54.:15:57.

killed her, Norway. She was the centre my world. John Travolta as

:15:58.:16:06.

Robert Shapiro is superb. He is almost like a weasel type character,

:16:07.:16:15.

devious but very good at his job. Do you see what I am up against here?

:16:16.:16:21.

His eyebrows are very odd. I don't quite know what he's done with them.

:16:22.:16:27.

Don't rush to judgment. David Schwimmer, we are so used to seeing

:16:28.:16:37.

him as Ross from Friends but he does play the part well.

:16:38.:16:44.

I love the opening scene on Monday when he is talking to his children.

:16:45.:16:51.

In this family being a good person and loyal friend is more important

:16:52.:16:56.

than being famous, theme is fleeting and hollow, it means nothing at all

:16:57.:17:03.

without a virtuous heart. They just did that so people would think it is

:17:04.:17:08.

ironic that they are famous now. This series is not about OJ Simpson

:17:09.:17:12.

I don't think, there is so much coming out in terms of particularly

:17:13.:17:17.

the legal system, the LAPD and how manipulative lawyers can be and that

:17:18.:17:22.

for me is one of the reasons why I shall continue to watch this

:17:23.:17:28.

programme. Very good, we said it was drama night tonight and we are

:17:29.:17:32.

joined by the star of Shetland, with the big Ali on our screens here to

:17:33.:17:39.

tell us about it is Detective Sergeant Alison McIntosh, AKA Alison

:17:40.:17:44.

O'Donnell. For people who haven't seen it what is it all about? It is

:17:45.:17:52.

based on a brilliant series of books by the same name which were about a

:17:53.:17:58.

detective inspector Jimmy Perez, played by Douglas Henshall, it is

:17:59.:18:02.

him and his team solving crime on Shetland. It is your first sort of

:18:03.:18:10.

big role isn't it? Yes to be honest I haven't done much TV at all, so it

:18:11.:18:15.

was a bit of a shock to get the part and a sharp learning curve. I turned

:18:16.:18:19.

up on set and they did not honestly know what I was doing but everyone

:18:20.:18:22.

was really kind and helpful and I think I have just about got the hang

:18:23.:18:27.

of it. You look like you know what you are doing, the last episode

:18:28.:18:30.

ended on this cliffhanger. If Michael Thompson had not been shot

:18:31.:18:34.

MacColl was looking at life in prison. Every time he has

:18:35.:18:40.

investigated his business sufferers. Think about it, if you had a senior

:18:41.:18:46.

fiscal in your pocket wouldn't you expect better protection than this?

:18:47.:18:53.

What if it is not MacColl who has been benefiting from the protection?

:18:54.:18:57.

Then who? Very good, dramatic. Is it changed

:18:58.:19:10.

slightly, the first series would be different murders but this has been

:19:11.:19:17.

one long complicated case. Exactly, in the previous use all the stories

:19:18.:19:20.

were wrapped up over two hours but this is one long-running story over

:19:21.:19:23.

six episodes which I think has worked really well. It really has.

:19:24.:19:29.

Has it felt different forming at like that? You don't have to keep

:19:30.:19:34.

setting up new characters and stories so space opens to develop

:19:35.:19:39.

other things. Our characters, the long-running characters got to do a

:19:40.:19:44.

bit more which was really nice. There is a great report on and off

:19:45.:19:48.

screen that daddy is an amazing actor -- that Douglas Henshall. I

:19:49.:19:57.

learn something everyday from watching him and he is as wonderful

:19:58.:20:03.

human being as he an actor. When you are not acting in the scenes you are

:20:04.:20:09.

singing show tunes apparently? One time we were filming on a tiny

:20:10.:20:12.

island about 20 minutes by plane from the mainland. Population of 50

:20:13.:20:22.

people? I think about 70. And lots of sheep! It's an incredible place,

:20:23.:20:30.

magical in the middle of the ocean. What happened? We were there filming

:20:31.:20:36.

and in between scenes it turned out, you'll was in a famous production of

:20:37.:20:40.

guys and dolls at the National Theatre, and I did it at school and

:20:41.:20:46.

so we ended up singing a few songs and I looked around and I thought I

:20:47.:20:49.

am in this incredible setting with these amazing guys and I thought I

:20:50.:20:54.

need to remember this. Do you fancy giving us a song now? No! For fans

:20:55.:21:03.

of the show, did Julia Merce yourself in the island? For a six

:21:04.:21:10.

episode series we will spend about six weeks on Shetland so it's quite

:21:11.:21:14.

a long time, it is like a second home, I have got to know it so well.

:21:15.:21:19.

There is something nice about being on location because you are away

:21:20.:21:22.

from family and friends and distractions. Does it add to the

:21:23.:21:29.

performance because it becomes so immersive? Yes, especially because

:21:30.:21:33.

the location of the programme is so important, the setting is such a big

:21:34.:21:37.

character in itself so it is made is to be there in the place it is set

:21:38.:21:41.

and really soak up the atmosphere. Quickly, a lot of people are worried

:21:42.:21:46.

about this tonight, it won't end with the... To be continued well it?

:21:47.:21:52.

:25:19.:25:22.

series Dr Thorne, it looks great. If you are missing Downton Abbey this

could be the perfect written by Julian Fellowes, it is based on a

:25:47.:25:51.

novel by Anthony Trollope and stars Rebecca Front who is great, Ian

:25:52.:25:55.

McShane and Tom Hollander. Tom Hollander in The Night Manager of

:25:56.:26:02.

course. It has all the ingredients of the Bulova Downton Abbey and this

sneak preview shows a discussion of suitable bridesmaids. You all make a

:26:09.:26:18.

charming picture. The date is set for the 1st of September. How

:26:19.:26:25.

exciting! Who are the bridesmaids to be? Beatrice, of course, and my

:26:26.:26:34.

cousins. I am sorry if you... Please, don't think of me, I never

:26:35.:26:38.

expected it for a minute. It looks good. That is on for the next three

:26:39.:26:45.

Sundays, up against The Night Manager on BBC. I am in the mood for

:26:46.:26:50.

another battle after my glorious victory in the quiz which is lucky

:26:51.:26:55.

because BBC One tomorrow night, 7pm, The Voice. All four coaches spun

:27:08.:27:16.

:27:43.:27:46.

Midwife, this Sunday I am feeling they will all come back for the last

:27:47.:27:52.

episode. Baby William has evacuated his bowels. Cannot go back out

:27:53.:27:59.

covered in all sorts. That is a very copious tool. Have you spoken to the

:28:00.:28:05.

mother about his feeding pattern? Would you like to talk to her?

:28:06.:28:12.

Babies are a two candied jobs am I do not handle newborn any more. It

:28:13.:28:18.

has made us laugh and cry and made me want to be a midwife. It's been

:28:19.:28:24.

one of the biggest series of the year, the biggest actually and I am

:28:25.:28:27.

sure the final episode will be incredible. That is all we have time

:28:28.:28:34.

for tonight, we are back on Monday with Emma Bunton and Rufus Hound.

:28:35.:28:37.

Alistair what TV theme are you playing a side with? Here we go. A

:28:38.:28:47.

lot of emotion. It is of course Cagney and Lacey. Huge thanks to all
