I say, you, old chap. I've only 23! I'm looking for... Llangollen. But, | :00:40. | :00:56.
my dear fellow, off we go to this wonderful sounding new festival and | :00:57. | :01:02.
don't forget my bags. Right. At that one, and that one. Come along. | :01:03. | :01:37.
Don't adjust your set, it is 2016 and welcome to the Llangollen | :01:38. | :01:46.
International Musical Eisteddfod. It is the 70th event and what better | :01:47. | :01:49.
way to start the highlights here in the colourful parade through the | :01:50. | :01:53.
town? There is so much to see, we had better split up, I will see you | :01:54. | :01:55.
in about an hour. Don't get lost! Hello. How are you enjoying the | :01:56. | :02:13.
parade? Can I have a go at waving your flag? | :02:14. | :02:24.
AA, you guys. We've had a goat, now we've got a dog. He is a Welsh | :02:25. | :02:38.
poodle. Are you enjoying it? Absolutely brilliant day. Hello, | :02:39. | :02:48.
Trinidad and Tobago! The sun has come out for you. Yes, we are so | :02:49. | :02:50.
happy. Australia, how are you enjoy it? It | :02:51. | :03:03.
is amazing, the atmosphere is so beautiful, it's great, I love it. | :03:04. | :03:11.
Hello, Norway. I have a bone to pick with you. I think we are in the same | :03:12. | :03:16.
hotel and this morning you were doing the hokey cookie outside! | :03:17. | :03:35.
Be booked onto Llangollen to enjoy the dance, colour and partying but | :03:36. | :03:43.
since if one week every year, this town is home to the best choral | :03:44. | :03:49.
music in the world. And this choir from California really stood out for | :03:50. | :03:51.
me. I think you are the smelliest choir | :03:52. | :04:28.
in the Eisteddfod. This week we have had so much fun. We took first place | :04:29. | :04:35.
in the adult competition, then we took second in the youth choir | :04:36. | :04:38.
competition and we have the most amazing parade. We have just now | :04:39. | :04:43.
finished in the adult mixed competition where we have a good | :04:44. | :04:47.
chance, I think. It was really good. A top choir with some Billy Clarke | :04:48. | :04:53.
notes. -- with some really top notes. | :04:54. | :05:15.
the small town of Llangollen is nestled in the Dene Valley and on | :05:16. | :05:30.
the face of it looks like other small towns in Wales, but every | :05:31. | :05:34.
summer this town is transformed and comes alive. | :05:35. | :05:37.
70 years ago, something miraculous happened here. It was the journalist | :05:38. | :05:44.
Harold dude who came up with the idea of an international festival, | :05:45. | :05:48.
and he chose Llangollen because of the beauty of its location and | :05:49. | :05:52.
because of the enthusiasm of local musicians. The world was still | :05:53. | :05:59.
suffering the aftermath of the Second World War and here was an | :06:00. | :06:04.
opportunity to offer hope, to heal and unite countries. And music and | :06:05. | :06:09.
international language was the perfect way of achieving this. The | :06:10. | :06:14.
first Eisteddfod was held in June 19 47. Never before in any town in | :06:15. | :06:21.
Wales have so many people of so many nationalities assembled for the | :06:22. | :06:27.
purpose of lifting their voices in song. Is there anyone here who | :06:28. | :06:39.
understands music? , give me a hand, please, to move this piano. It | :06:40. | :06:44.
started as an international choral Festival but a group of Spanish | :06:45. | :06:48.
dancers turned up hoping to compete. They were invited to perform during | :06:49. | :06:52.
a special evening concert and with -- they were such a hit with the | :06:53. | :06:56.
audience that next year, a new folk dance competition was established. | :06:57. | :07:14.
This children's choir, singing their hit song, transfixed the poet Dylan | :07:15. | :07:24.
Thomas, who visited in 1953. He called them angels in pigtails, and | :07:25. | :07:35.
the event itself a miracle. The miracle is that such a small town | :07:36. | :07:39.
managers to stage such a grand international event which continues | :07:40. | :07:41.
to evolve and capture audiences' imagination to this day. While this | :07:42. | :07:49.
is an international festival, Wales regularly puts in a good showing, | :07:50. | :07:54.
and especially this year in the children's choral competitions. | :07:55. | :08:14.
How did they do today? I am really pleased with all of them, they were | :08:15. | :08:19.
fantastic. They worked hard. It is the first time they have competed in | :08:20. | :08:23.
this category. The aim was to enjoy ourselves and we definitely did | :08:24. | :08:24.
that. APPLAUSE | :08:25. | :08:48.
the choir were delighted to be declared winners in the junior bar | :08:49. | :08:58.
section. Your teacher must be very proud of you. She's crying! And a | :08:59. | :09:08.
senior children's choir competition is always keenly contested, and once | :09:09. | :09:12.
again, with Wales putting in a strong showing. | :09:13. | :09:25.
And Ali onstage for the girls, how did you get on? We were really | :09:26. | :09:34.
pleased, all our hard work paid off. All the practices and early | :09:35. | :09:36.
mornings, it all came together. Yes, another first prize winning | :09:37. | :10:08.
performance for Wales. How does it feel? Amazing! Are no | :10:09. | :10:27.
words. I'm shaking! Is it the first time that your core of one? -- that | :10:28. | :10:37.
your choir have won? First time with me involved, yes. | :10:38. | :10:43.
This is the 70th Eisteddfod here at Llangollen and to celebrate, they | :10:44. | :10:46.
have an archive tent with all the history of the Eisteddfod and one | :10:47. | :10:51.
thing in particular has caught my eye, a piece of sheet music. Tell me | :10:52. | :10:58.
about this. It is called the son of freedom and it was composed for the | :10:59. | :11:04.
very first Eisteddfod in 1947, and it has never been some never | :11:05. | :11:10.
produced. Never been performed? Not at all. Can I get it open? I don't | :11:11. | :11:23.
need gloves? Would you lend this to me for five minutes? Certainly. | :11:24. | :11:30.
There are various theories as to fight the piece has never been | :11:31. | :11:33.
performed but it was put in a box and has never seen the light of day, | :11:34. | :11:38.
until today. All I need now is a choir to help me perform it. I have | :11:39. | :11:47.
got a choir, let's do this! SINGING | :11:48. | :12:30.
What do we think of that? Inter-mac I think it is very pretty. Would you | :12:31. | :12:38.
like to put it into your repertoire? It is kind of long. | :12:39. | :12:40.
BOOING I loved it. Thank you very much. I | :12:41. | :12:49.
will entrust this into your care to take home. Once again, the 21 | :12:50. | :12:55.
strings ensemble from China were able popular favourite. | :12:56. | :13:29.
Now, I've done it, I have found... Your back again. It is very | :13:30. | :14:04.
different experience. I decided to bring them back again. Thank you for | :14:05. | :14:10.
coming back. Tell me about this instrument. It is a very traditional | :14:11. | :14:15.
instrument in China. It has 21 strings. | :14:16. | :14:25.
Have you enjoyed the festival? We loved it here. It is gorgeous here. | :14:26. | :14:40.
We loved having you, thank you for bringing your amazing instruments. | :14:41. | :14:47.
We love Llangollen! Choirs come from all over the world to sing at this | :14:48. | :14:51.
festival. One choir that has been killing the goal is Bishop Anthony | :14:52. | :14:56.
high school choir from Trinidad and Tobago. | :14:57. | :15:59.
CHEERING. Now, time for some sultry seduction | :16:00. | :16:12.
and fiery heat on the stage at Llangollen. Are you ready, ladies? | :16:13. | :16:19.
No, it's not me in concert, it's a production of Carmen. | :16:20. | :16:32.
In every opera, there is a heroine. You are our heroine this evening. | :16:33. | :16:41.
How are you feeling? Pretty good. I'm looking forward to my debut in | :16:42. | :16:47.
the UK. This is the first time? Absolutely, my first time in Wales. | :16:48. | :16:51.
What is the first thing that grabs you about Wales? The countryside. I | :16:52. | :16:57.
am here with my daughter, she is five and she wants to be outside all | :16:58. | :16:59.
the time. Let's talk about the role, which you | :17:00. | :17:26.
have performed all around the world. How will your performance differ | :17:27. | :17:29.
tonight, how do they differ with different conductors? I think every | :17:30. | :17:35.
production is different. It depends on the cast, the other media sins, | :17:36. | :17:40.
the conductor. That colours everything. My interpretation, the | :17:41. | :17:48.
way I do Carmen is about how he interprets Don Jose as well. We try | :17:49. | :17:49.
to adapt to each other. No are Stuart, Don Jose, what's | :17:50. | :18:20.
going on? Additive feel up there? Is going to be back. Is it how you | :18:21. | :18:27.
remember is? It's bigger. There are more flowers. There are -- there is | :18:28. | :18:32.
this woman in Carmen who drives me crazy! | :18:33. | :18:40.
What is it about singing here that makes it so special? It's | :18:41. | :18:47.
everything. I grew up singing in a choir. Did you grow up singing in a | :18:48. | :18:55.
choir? So it's almost like a retracing my steps. And seeing the | :18:56. | :19:00.
photos of the choir competition and thinking, I can't believe that that | :19:01. | :19:03.
was my first beginnings and now I'm living out my dream. | :19:04. | :19:42.
International orchestra, doesn't get much better? No. And we haven't had | :19:43. | :19:49.
much rehearsal, but the audiences are a treat. | :19:50. | :20:15.
APPLAUSE. CHEERING. | :20:16. | :20:27.
What a reception for the scintillating performance of Carmen. | :20:28. | :20:37.
Now, we all know that Wynne Evans likes a challenge. I don't like a | :20:38. | :20:42.
challenge, I love a challenge! Good, I will set you one. I was wondering | :20:43. | :20:47.
if you would be willing to learn a few new dance moves. Not a problem, | :20:48. | :20:54.
name your genre, Bollywood, ballet, ballroom, break dancing, I'm there! | :20:55. | :20:59.
Will be the judge of that. Promise me by the end of the show, you will | :21:00. | :21:04.
have learnt a new routine. And I got a challenge for you, Connie | :21:05. | :21:05.
Fisher... Connie! 'S children stay here at Llangollen | :21:06. | :21:22.
and this tent is full of local schoolchildren here to enjoy the | :21:23. | :21:27.
entertainment on stage and and the Eisteddfod field. It is an amazing | :21:28. | :21:32.
party atmosphere. There is entertainment on stage and | :21:33. | :21:38.
activities on the field. Are you all having fun? Yes! Well, I'm yet to | :21:39. | :21:49.
put a stop to all that fun. -- I'm here to put a stop. These children | :21:50. | :21:56.
have just watched the three Little pigs, what you think of it? I liked | :21:57. | :22:05.
it when he puffed the houses down. They have to and past and blew the | :22:06. | :22:09.
house down. Did you enjoy your experience? Yes! Andujar, and I'll | :22:10. | :22:20.
pass, and I'll blow your house in! -- and I will half, and I will pass, | :22:21. | :22:29.
. If you are worried about showing yourself about Llangollen, give up. | :22:30. | :22:35.
Go with the flow and go with it, Bollywood style. | :22:36. | :23:00.
So Connie set me the challenge and I thought, Highland, I haven't done | :23:01. | :23:09.
that before. So hello. Tell me a little bit about your group. My | :23:10. | :23:14.
group come from the Highlands, Evanton. The group has been going | :23:15. | :23:23.
for 26 years and I'd tutor each successive group. I'm not what you | :23:24. | :23:30.
would call a professional dancer, but I'm pretty good. How do you | :23:31. | :23:33.
think I will fare? I think you will find this a real challenge. OK, | :23:34. | :23:41.
Irene, show me what I have to do. So stand in a circle beside your | :23:42. | :23:46.
partners. Circle around 48, circle back again. Couples opposite each | :23:47. | :23:51.
other are going to tango across for four. Coupled opposite going to | :23:52. | :23:57.
tangle back -- are going to tango back. And then we will go for a | :23:58. | :24:01.
small lift. You're not going to lift me? I would need porridge first! :. | :24:02. | :24:10.
I haven't got a kilt on, that's the problem. Back, one, two, three, | :24:11. | :24:22.
four... Clearly, at the moment, it looks like the generation game. Give | :24:23. | :24:26.
me 24-hour is. This newly formed group combines the | :24:27. | :24:35.
talents of two groups. Despite only working together a few hours before | :24:36. | :24:43.
the competition they managed to secure first prize in their | :24:44. | :24:57.
category. APPLAUSE. This is the 70th Eisteddfod here in | :24:58. | :25:03.
Llangollen. But back in 1947, the current Eisteddfod field would have | :25:04. | :25:11.
been empty. For the first ten years, this Eisteddfod would have been held | :25:12. | :25:16.
here in this field. To tell us the story, the president of the | :25:17. | :25:19.
Eisteddfod has come to unveil a clerk with the help of pupils from | :25:20. | :25:26.
Klizan and Tobago. SINGING. | :25:27. | :25:37.
-- from Trinidad and Tobago. To all the young people here today, | :25:38. | :25:41.
believe in peace and don't believe that there is nothing that you can | :25:42. | :25:47.
do. People here in Wales have had an impact that has extended around the | :25:48. | :25:55.
world. APPLAUSE. The three honours declare this | :25:56. | :25:56.
monument open. What does it feel like to be singing | :25:57. | :26:29.
at the special ceremony? We feel so honoured to be here. We are from | :26:30. | :26:35.
Trinidad and Tobago, a tiny island in the Caribbean so we feel honoured | :26:36. | :26:39.
to be part of something special. The idea that music can bring together | :26:40. | :26:43.
people from cultures and religions and that is what we believe in. So | :26:44. | :26:47.
to be part of that is truly an honour for us. | :26:48. | :26:53.
Terry, what a special day this has been? It is a wonderful inspiration | :26:54. | :27:00.
because it shows that ordinary people such as you and I can make a | :27:01. | :27:05.
difference. Here in Wales, people have used their natural talent. Some | :27:06. | :27:11.
people in Wales can sing. You would know much about that, but some | :27:12. | :27:15.
people... LAUGHTER. | :27:16. | :27:20.
. Some people in Wales can sing. They use that ability to promote | :27:21. | :27:25.
peace. You might think about that. They do say that everybody has a | :27:26. | :27:30.
song in them. I am ready? We are going to do it together. You will | :27:31. | :27:36.
have to prompt me for the words. # Will keep a welcome in the | :27:37. | :27:42.
hillside, will keep a welcome in the veils... # Terry Waite, what a | :27:43. | :27:56.
legend! And right at home here in Llangollen | :27:57. | :28:02.
this year, Kerry Ellis is taking centre stage for a celebration of my | :28:03. | :28:06.
favourite kind of music. She's the star of Wicked. | :28:07. | :28:14.
CHEERING. Well, we are getting ready for the | :28:15. | :28:23.
magic of the musicals and with the first Lady of musical theatre, Kerry | :28:24. | :28:28.
Ellis. How excited are you to be here? I am so excited to be year. I | :28:29. | :28:35.
arrived today and I been driving through the little village. Then we | :28:36. | :28:39.
had a sound check here and a rehearsal. The orchestra sounds | :28:40. | :28:44.
amazing, the girl and boy dancers are amazing. I feel really lucky to | :28:45. | :28:49.
be here. What can we expect a year you singing? I'm singing songs from | :28:50. | :29:01.
Wicked, and from cats. . # Touch me, it's so easy to leave | :29:02. | :29:08.
the cooling, all alone with the memories of my days in the sun... # | :29:09. | :29:18.
If you touch me, you'll understand what happiness is Look, a new day | :29:19. | :29:34.
has begun. # | :29:35. | :29:47.
You have performed with some very exciting people, Brian May, Barry | :29:48. | :29:52.
Manilow. Have you performed with Nia? I | :29:53. | :29:56.
haven't, but I must do. # With Wynne Evans,. Talk through | :29:57. | :30:06.
your career. I have been really fortunate to keep working. I have | :30:07. | :30:10.
done some big West End shows. Wicked, we know. | :30:11. | :30:16.
I think I just keep banging on people's doors and done, I'm still | :30:17. | :30:20.
here! # All that jazz! | :30:21. | :30:45.
# And that jazz. The people who really hold the power | :30:46. | :30:48.
here are the flower committee. Right, teach me how to do something | :30:49. | :31:10.
in less than 30 seconds. Come on, then. Can we have a go at that? You | :31:11. | :31:20.
need to put the foliage in first to get the shape and start with the | :31:21. | :31:28.
flowers. Hang on. I think this is turning out a bit better than yours! | :31:29. | :31:40.
How am I doing so far? Who rubbish? -- who said. You need flowers. It's | :31:41. | :31:57.
not finished yet! I'm still going. I think I'm bringing years of | :31:58. | :32:02.
experience to this table. It is finished. It could do with a bit of | :32:03. | :32:13.
gypsophila. What would you give for that? ?3.50. Excellent. It's yours. | :32:14. | :32:36.
SINGING Back to the competitions and one of | :32:37. | :32:47.
the most popular categories this year is the children's folk choir. | :32:48. | :32:53.
You can see five. Taking first prize is this youth choir from Indonesia. | :32:54. | :33:31.
APPLAUSE And this core also went on to win | :33:32. | :33:40.
the prestigious children choir of the world price. An emotional visit | :33:41. | :33:45.
for the Indonesians and Wynne was there to confront the edge-mac to | :33:46. | :33:51.
congratulate them. -- to congratulate them. The children's | :33:52. | :33:54.
choir of the world! You have been fantastic. I'm speechless! You must | :33:55. | :34:05.
be showing wonderful now. Yes, yes. Very relieved, happy, proud, I don't | :34:06. | :34:10.
know, everything. Will you let them have a party this evening? I think | :34:11. | :34:18.
so! The children's choir of the world! | :34:19. | :34:27.
APPLAUSE For the 70th Dallas concert this | :34:28. | :34:33.
year, Bryn Turtle packed the audience into the International | :34:34. | :34:42.
Pavilion. Bryn, hello. Good to be back at home? Always good to sing in | :34:43. | :34:50.
Llangollen. Two years ago we did Sweeney Todd. You can't have | :34:51. | :34:54.
anything that is so different, different atmospheres. | :34:55. | :35:33.
A young singer from Malta has come to join. I think he came in the | :35:34. | :35:42.
second year, I had my festival in Bangor. We sing together now and | :35:43. | :35:51.
again. In this terrific world of ours. | :35:52. | :36:37.
APPLAUSE We are backstage in the very | :36:38. | :36:47.
glamorous dressing rooms. Your first time in Llangollen but not your | :36:48. | :36:53.
first time in the Eisteddfod? Wales was the first time -- one of the | :36:54. | :36:56.
first countries I started in. You got to sing with Bryn, that has | :36:57. | :37:30.
to be a good thing. We sort of look like each other. I am a bit smaller. | :37:31. | :37:39.
My children asked me, do you believe in Dragons? I told them, I sing with | :37:40. | :37:44.
one of the most beautiful and talented Dragons in the world, which | :37:45. | :37:46.
is Bryn. # If I were a Rich man... # Lord, who made the land and the | :37:47. | :38:14.
lamb. APPLAUSE | :38:15. | :38:49.
Let's talk about football. Luckily, Malta haven't drawn Wales in the | :38:50. | :38:54.
qualifiers for the World Cup. You have the easy option! Very much so. | :38:55. | :39:07.
I think Wales were a bit unlucky. But Malta still have to step up our | :39:08. | :39:14.
game in football. But who knows? We will get there, much like Iceland. | :39:15. | :39:51.
Martin, welcome to Llangollen. What does it mean to you to be | :39:52. | :40:09.
President for the day? It means a lot, Terry Waite asks -- asked me | :40:10. | :40:16.
stop I have had a fascinating time. We are gathered here at this | :40:17. | :40:20.
magnificent festival at eight of rancour and division in our country. | :40:21. | :40:25.
Cities against countryside, the old against the young. The time of | :40:26. | :40:32.
bitterness and in commission and incivility. The contrast between the | :40:33. | :40:37.
discord of our politics and the Concorde of our music could not be | :40:38. | :40:40.
greater than at this time and this place. You describe this festival as | :40:41. | :40:47.
a beacon of light in dark and troubled times. Is the festival as | :40:48. | :40:51.
relevant now as it was when it started? I would say more than ever. | :40:52. | :40:56.
I happen to believe we live in the most dangerous times, the last 40 or | :40:57. | :41:01.
50 years, instability all around, recriminations at home, and we have | :41:02. | :41:05.
to pull together as a nation again, we have this wonderful common Bond, | :41:06. | :41:10.
which is music, which has or was provided solace in times of trouble | :41:11. | :41:16.
and I think now more than ever. Against the darkness of the time, | :41:17. | :41:21.
made this great festival shine like a beacon of light. Thank you. | :41:22. | :41:32.
APPLAUSE One group that has created a huge | :41:33. | :41:38.
impression this week is this dance group, all the way from Zimbabwe. | :41:39. | :41:42.
The school was founded with the aim of inspiring children to grow, to be | :41:43. | :41:44.
confident and responsible young people. They have travelled over | :41:45. | :41:54.
7000 miles to perform and compete here, and the school's founder is | :41:55. | :41:59.
very proud of her group. The children have been excellent in the | :42:00. | :42:09.
performances. The first one was the children's folk dance. They came in | :42:10. | :42:14.
fourth position. They did excellently because this was their | :42:15. | :42:18.
first experience at an international level. So for us, they did | :42:19. | :42:19.
wonderfully. BOOING | :42:20. | :42:38.
Zimbabwe! I heard you had a big party last night, is that true? I | :42:39. | :42:42.
hope there was no cheese in the ladies around! -- chasing. Are you | :42:43. | :42:51.
ready? Bringing their distinctive vocal | :42:52. | :43:23.
style this year, the Swingle singers. This piece was in the | :43:24. | :43:29.
group's original repertoire, created in 1962. | :43:30. | :44:24.
APPLAUSE The winner of the instrumental folk | :44:25. | :44:35.
solo competition this year is this musician from China. The piece | :44:36. | :44:42.
describes huntsmen having a successful day. It was certainly a | :44:43. | :44:45.
success for Sabrina! So, early in the week I sent you a | :44:46. | :45:25.
challenge at the moment has come to show us. Are you ready? I was born | :45:26. | :45:29.
ready! Very good! I'm very impressed with | :45:30. | :46:07.
that. Let's see what our audience think. | :46:08. | :46:14.
Nailed it! Totally. Well, the winning dance groups go through to | :46:15. | :46:24.
the dance Championships' competition. Sadly, Wynne Evans is | :46:25. | :46:30.
not quite good enough yet for the competition. Next year? Hot | :46:31. | :46:34.
contenders for the prize with these dancers from India. -- were these | :46:35. | :46:40.
dancers from India. But winning the overall main prize | :46:41. | :47:10.
itself, the 2016 dance Championships of Llangollen would simply stunning | :47:11. | :47:14.
group from Indonesia, moving together with breathtaking | :47:15. | :47:15.
precision. CHEERING. | :47:16. | :47:53.
Llangollen Eisteddfod has welcomed its fair share of musical legends | :47:54. | :47:56.
but one legend in particular stands out. In 1955, a male choir from | :47:57. | :48:04.
modular in Italy came to compete here at Llangollen. Although they | :48:05. | :48:11.
were up against 22 other choirs, they won first prize. The experience | :48:12. | :48:15.
of visiting this International Festival made a huge impression on | :48:16. | :48:19.
one of the younger members of the choir. His name, Luciano Pavarotti. | :48:20. | :48:24.
And you promised them that he would be back. I always say that to the | :48:25. | :48:31.
journalists when they ask me what is the day more memorable in my life. | :48:32. | :48:38.
And I always say, the day when I won this competition. 40 years later, in | :48:39. | :48:45.
July 1995, Pavarotti got the chance to come back with his father, | :48:46. | :48:51.
Fernando. He was here for a special concert and to keep the promise he | :48:52. | :49:04.
made in 1955. The beautiful people! For the first time in the history of | :49:05. | :49:09.
the Eisteddfod, the crowd also paid to watch the concert outside the | :49:10. | :49:15.
pavilion. And the concert was also related to Singleton Park in Swansea | :49:16. | :49:19.
where a crowd of 40,000 watched the man on the big screen. I know there | :49:20. | :49:26.
is other people outside... CHEERING. | :49:27. | :49:40.
For 40 years, I was looking for this day. | :49:41. | :51:30.
APPLAUSE. The organisation told me, you can | :51:31. | :51:37.
come back in 40 years. LAUGHTER. | :51:38. | :51:44.
. They are optimistic, and thank you for the beautiful night you give to | :51:45. | :51:51.
me. It meant so much to him, the legend, Luciano Pavarotti. | :51:52. | :52:01.
And Pavarotti's name is still still honours with Llangollen and because | :52:02. | :52:07.
the winner of Choir of the World wins the Pavarotti trophy. It has | :52:08. | :52:15.
all been leading up to this. And Wynne Evans is going to be our guide | :52:16. | :52:19.
leading us through the Choir of the World 2016. | :52:20. | :52:42.
So, the show has begun. The choir from the Philippines got us off to a | :52:43. | :52:50.
flying start. They are a young choir and they really do perform. A | :52:51. | :52:54.
spectacle for the eyes as well as the ears. But my criticism was that | :52:55. | :53:00.
they could be a bit series, they needed to be a bit brighter. But | :53:01. | :53:02.
having said that, the standard has been set, and it is a high one. -- | :53:03. | :53:07.
my criticism was that they could be a bit serious. | :53:08. | :53:39.
Second on stage tonight worthy winners of the ladies' choir | :53:40. | :53:46.
category. This choir had a great dynamic range and are not afraid to | :53:47. | :53:51.
sing out loud, which I absolutely love. Maybe their programme was a | :53:52. | :53:55.
bit safe to the winners of Choir of the World, and I'm not sure about | :53:56. | :53:59.
the bouquets on their wrists. But they are polished and definite | :54:00. | :54:00.
contenders. Next on stage, the winners of the | :54:01. | :55:09.
mixed choir category, the Bob Cole Conservatory choir from the USA. And | :55:10. | :55:14.
the standard got a whole lot higher. I love these guys. Difficult music, | :55:15. | :55:20.
brilliantly executed, sung with soul and real passion. If I had one | :55:21. | :55:25.
criticism, picking holes, right at the start of the programme, the | :55:26. | :55:29.
intonation at the top of the voice was a bit dodgy. But I don't care, | :55:30. | :55:31.
because I actually love them. Our penultimate choir do things on | :55:32. | :56:34.
an epic scale. But their main strength for me is also their main | :56:35. | :56:38.
weakness. It is such a wide age range. Some of the schools our | :56:39. | :56:42.
primary is and there might be the odd member eligible for a free bus | :56:43. | :56:47.
pass. As a result, it is difficult to blend the voices. But I love the | :56:48. | :56:52.
choir's ethos and I think they will do fantastically well tonight. | :56:53. | :57:33.
The final choir on stage tonight, the winners of the male voice choir | :57:34. | :58:01.
category. These guys saying with passion. They may not be as polished | :58:02. | :58:05.
as some of the other choirs, but they're saying makes me happy and it | :58:06. | :58:11.
warms my heart. -- they're singing it makes me happy. | :58:12. | :58:43.
Where is that trophy going tonight? Well, if I had to put money on it, I | :58:44. | :58:51.
would say it was heading to the United States of America. The winner | :58:52. | :58:59.
of Choir of the World 2016 is the Bob Cole Conservatory Choir from | :59:00. | :59:03.
USA! CHEERING. | :59:04. | :59:11.
Well, what a week and what a night for the Bob Cole Conservatory Choir! | :59:12. | :59:18.
Congratulations to all the performers who performed throughout | :59:19. | :59:24.
this event. And as the 70th Llangollen musical Eisteddfod draws | :59:25. | :59:28.
to a close, we will remember it as a cultural feast and full of happy | :59:29. | :59:34.
memories. From all of us, goodbye from Llangollen. | :59:35. | :00:07.
