BBC Proms Last Night Celebrations in Scotland

Hello, I'm Jamie McDoug aland welcome live to the city halls in

Glasgow for the BBC Proms last night celebrations in Scotland.

We've got a fantastic night of music ahead with some wonderful

guests as we mark the end of another highly successful proms

season. Already on stage here, very much on home turf, we have got the

BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, guest-led this evening by Miranda

Playfair and they've had a busy summer including some highly

acclaimed performances at the proms in the Royal Albert Hall and at the

Edinburgh International Festival. Joining them, we have a stellar

line-up. You will be able to hear the soprano voice of car lean

Simpson and Joanna McGregor and we have some jazz. Tommy Smith appears

with the BBC SSO. All that's coming from the City

Halls in Glasgow. For those watching at home, you will be able

to see Nicola Bendetti play the Violin Concerto at the Royal Albert

Hall. Let's get on with music here in Glasgow, as I introduce you to

the man who'd steer us true this evening of a musical snorgs board

of delights, starting off with Bernstein's overture, please

A magical start to our concert there, part of Mendelsohn's 3rd

Symphony, also known as the Scottish Symphony and before that,

an overture by Leonard Bernstein from Candide, performed by the

Symphony and conducted by Stephen Bell. An exciting collaboration

from one of Mozart's best-known arias, it starts with a question -

you ask that I forget you. After hearing the rehearsal yesterday and

today, I can assure you this is a performance you will not forget.

year. Whether jazz, classical or contemporary, she knows no musical
