Hello, how are you? Welcome. Here we go then. The first semifinal of

Eurovision 2012. We are coming at you live from Crystal Hall in Baku,

Azerbaijan. It's created a lot of interest here this week. Tonight,

it is about what happens on that massive stage there. Scott is in

the Gods somewhere. Give us a wave. Hey, gorgeous! We will bring you

all the magic of Eurovision. This is what you can expect on tonight's

show: Coming up, we take you behind-the-scenes. We will be

chatting to some of the favourites and the Hump will be here. Now,

SCOTT MILLS: These are our three hosts for tonight. You will be

seeing them a lot. The man in the middle is Eldar. He is known as Ell

off Ell and Nikki and they won last year. On the right, that is Nargiz.

She is a TV presenter/lawyer. My name is Eldar. I'm a singer. And I

was born in Baku in 1989. My name is Nargiz. I'm a lawyer. And I was

born in Baku in... Well, let's proceed with the show, shall we?!

SCOTT MILLS: On the left is Leila, another TV presenter who likes to

edit fashion magazines. Thank you, Leila. And thank you, Dusseldorf.

Es war wunderschon bei euch. This year we have the honour to host the

three Eurovision shows: Two semi- finals - one today and the second

on Thursday. And then the spectacular Grand Final on Saturday.

As you know, some countries are already qualified for the Grand

Final. France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, plus,

of course, the host country. SCOTT MILLS: The big five are the

biggest financial contributors to Eurovision so they have guaranteed

places in the final, so we are in. 36 other countries compete for the

20 remaining places. Today we will see 18 entries singing for your

votes. Ten of them will make it to the Grand Final. On Thursday we

will see the last 18 semi-finalists and, again, ten will advance to the

Grand Final. This year the voting rules have changed slightly. And we

are very glad that we have a lawyer here with us. She can explain the

rules perfectly. I will, but later. Because this year, we will open the

phone lines after we've seen all the contestants.

That decision was taken by splitting the voting of the big

five countries and the host, Azerbaijan. So you can't vote

Contest begin! SCOTT MILLS: I went out on to a

balcony and nearly got blown off! Here we go. Semifinal one of

Eurovision 2012. It is a lengthy semi tonight, about two hours, so

sit back and enjoy. As we go along tonight, you will see 18 films

about Azerbaijan. They are supposed to make you think, "Maybe I will go

there on holiday one day." In Eurovision land, they are called

postcards. They reflect the landscape and culture of the

country. I have been here since Friday so I reckon you will see a

lot of tea drinking and carpets. And there will be an old man

playing chess with a child because there always is in these every

year! Look out for him. First up is Rambo Amadeus. He is representing

Montenegro. He is a cult figure. He has a donkey on stage and a sweaty

think she was playing them at times. It is the grannies! This could be

the highlight of your evening or your life! So far, 20 million views

on the internet. Introducing Buranovskiye Babushki. It's the

Russian grannies! They are so cute. There is six of them. One has one

hand because she lost it in an accident. They have made pastries

for every other contestant in the competition. They have an oven on

stage! They make them in their village. They are Russia's

equivalent of Gregg's! So many people have seen this. It's been

all over the British news. Two of them worked as milk maids. This is

them. For Russia, one of the highlights tonight, Buranovskiye

It was like almost the whole country was outside and cheering us.

tonight? I think they will get through it. They will win the

public vote. It depends on the juries. The song is not amazing. It

is a nice back-story. It will be quite cute if they won. Julia, you

were telling me you heard them sing a different song, right? Which? How

do you mean? The grannies? I got in there and they don't have great

English. I got their names. I wanted them to be eight women. Then

I knew they had done a cover of Yesterday. They started singing it

in English. They started singing it and it was magnificent. I kind of

wished they were doing something more traditional and not having

Party For Everybody. It is a young person's song. They moved me to

tears. They were magic. Anyone you think didn't do so well tonight?

tonight? Actually, I heard the girl from Albania. She has such a great

have you been in Baku? Three days. How are you finding it? Surprising.

I didn't expect all this. Very modern, but then also, you know,
