Peggy Lee could sing anything and I would love it.

I was a big, big fan of Peggy Lee's.

So when she was on the show it was always fun. It was always a treat to sing with her. She had such a style.

'I feel privileged to have worked with Judy Garland.

'She was a tremendous star from the time she was very little.'

That's really pretty.

It was near the end of her career.

Physically, she couldn't hold the notes so she used to hold them.

She always had a wobble in her voice

but it was so endearing to her.

She could make you cry just by listening to her voice.

So much pathos in her voice.

Pearl Bailey, she was a lot of fun to work with.

She had more innate natural rhythm

than anybody that I worked with before.

She could be talking, the music is going and then she starts singing.

She'd know exactly where the bars were.

She talks, "Andy, that's what I mean..." And then starts singing.

In the middle of a phrase, you know?

She had terrific time

and she was fun. She was great fun to work with

and that's one of my favourite numbers of all.

How do you feel about exercising your vocal cords?

That's all. I told you before we started the show.

Well, I thought we'd do a little vocalising.

Bing Crosby was on several times which really made me delighted

cos I was such a big fan of his.

And when I was 14, my brothers and I made a record with him,

called Swinging On A Star, and it was a big, big record.

And to be able to have him on MY show, you know...

And sit on a stool next to him and sing duets with him.

And in the medley, we even did Swinging On A Star,

from 20 years earlier. 30 years earlier maybe.

If I had to pick an ultimate duet I would say Ella Fitzgerald and me.

This is because it was so complicated and so hard to learn.

And it it was such a privilege to sing with her.

Um, and to do these fantastic arrangements.

And so, it wasn't something you'd learn in a day,

you had to spend some time on it.

But she was quick. I wasn't quite as quick as she was.

I look at the shows now and I wonder how we got all the people.

A lot of vibrant people writing and directing.
