The Vamps, they are definitely ones to watch in 2014.

Hey, Reg, let's have a catch-up. OK. How's your year been?

It's been a good year, really, no jail time, so, yeah, pretty good.

Positive, excellent. Good.

Well, tell you what, plenty happened in the year of 2013,

let's have a look at some of the biggest stories of this year.

If there's one man who undoubtedly owned 2013,

it has to be pop polymath Pharrell Williams.

His stamp of genius was all over the two biggest songs of the year -

Get Lucky with Daft Punk

and with Robin Thicke on what was to become

this year's biggest-selling song.

Blurred Lines gave Robin his first UK number one,

but, of course, his controversial song had its critics.

Not least returning popstress Lily Allen who took the Mick

out of Mr Thicke in her comeback track Hard Out Here.

# Inequality promises that it's here to stay... #

# As long as I've got my suit and tie... #

Mr Sexy Back himself, Justin Timberlake, also returned to form

with The 2020 Experience, his first number one album in seven years.

# I'm lookin' right at the other half of me... #

# Hey, hey, hey, it's a beautiful day... #

But, believe it or not, Canadian crooner Michael Buble outsold JT

with his album To Be Loved.

The veterans of pop proved they could show the young ones

a thing or two about chart success.

David Bowie chalked up his eighth number one album with The Next Day

and following in his footsteps,

fellow rock legends Rod Stewart, Cher, Sir Paul McCartney

and Black Sabbath all scored top-five albums.

# If you close your eyes... #

Without a doubt one of the big success stories of 2013 were Bastille,

fronted by singer-songwriter and man of excellent hair, Dan Smith.

Their debut album went straight to number one

and their signature tune Pompeii was the anthem of the summer.

This year's Radio 1's Big Weekend found itself

in the fair city of Derry-Londonderry.

The UK's City of Culture played host

to some of the world's hottest stars.

On the other side of the pond, Mr Kanye West was keeping busy

with a number one album, a newborn baby girl

and a typically OTT proposal to Kim Kardashian.

2013 also saw the biggest girl group of the century,

Girls Aloud, send tremors through the pop world

when they announced they were breaking up.

And things went from bad to worse with the shocking news that

Marvin, JB, Oritse and Aston - better known as JLS -

had decided to call it quits after six years and six million records.

Now, next up, a brilliant band who are also lovely lads.

They've been making music together since they were 13 years old.

This year, their debut album went straight to number one.

Yeah, they are off on a worldwide tour in 2014,

it's safe to say that most of us now know the answer.

Our Bajan princess RiRi continued to smash records in 2013.

With her buddy, Mr Mathers, she had a number one single with Monsters

which means that she enters the record books alongside The Beatles

and Elvis by having a number one hit every year for seven years.

After a two-year absence, Lady Gaga was back and she didn't disappoint.

winning two MOBOs to shed his persona of the Banksy of pop.
