public over. Mike Embley will be here at 2am, but time for a look at

:00:00.:00:00.

the news as seen across the United States a couple of hours ago, in ABC

:00:00.:00:10.

World News with Dianne Sawyer. Tonight, the mystery deepens, the

:00:11.:00:16.

plane that is of course before it was lost. And, video of the pilot

:00:17.:00:21.

about to captain a vanishing flight. Roads washed away by floods as

:00:22.:00:27.

weather gets ready to deliver a parting shot to 89 million people.

:00:28.:00:32.

And, unlocking a secret, panic attacks on live TV that set Dan

:00:33.:00:37.

Harris on a search for a happier way to live. He tells you the answer he

:00:38.:00:41.

found that could help your life also. Good evening to you. We begin

:00:42.:00:55.

with the mystery of the aeroplane that vanished 239 souls on board. It

:00:56.:01:01.

is four days into the search and one new theory has emerged, take a look.

:01:02.:01:06.

Investigators thought the plane travel this route, then disappeared.

:01:07.:01:12.

But, tonight, clues suggest the plane could have veered off course

:01:13.:01:16.

radically, meaning a vast new stretch of ocean to be searched. Our

:01:17.:01:20.

correspondent is in Beijing with the latest on the disappearance of

:01:21.:01:26.

flight 370. The military is quoted as saying the

:01:27.:01:35.

jet headed off course. The flight, carrying 239 passengers, banked hard

:01:36.:01:39.

to the left, and the military said it soared over hundred of miles of

:01:40.:01:44.

land, never sounding an alarm, cruising low into the Strait of my

:01:45.:01:49.

luck, a busy shipping lane near a tiny rocky island. The boat, no one

:01:50.:01:56.

on land never spotted it. An unimaginable manoeuvre, sparking

:01:57.:01:59.

more questions tonight. From the sky, it is like looking for a needle

:02:00.:02:02.

in a haystack for the 40 aircraft and ships. Up at this, the BBC, with

:02:03.:02:11.

a view aboard the searched shopper. Officials are using their naked eyes

:02:12.:02:14.

to try and spot anything in the water that seems out of the

:02:15.:02:21.

ordinary. -- search chopper. They thought they spotted something but

:02:22.:02:26.

it was a false lead. They are even crowd sourcing, asking the public to

:02:27.:02:31.

help, by scouring images for clues, taken by satellites high above the

:02:32.:02:35.

region. There was some progress today, we learned that two men who

:02:36.:02:38.

were on the flight using fake passports are both young Iranians, a

:02:39.:02:44.

19-year-old and a 29-year-old travelling to Germany. One, possibly

:02:45.:02:49.

seeking asylum. Officials in contact with one of the men's mother, said

:02:50.:02:52.

they do not think the men have connection to terror. Still,

:02:53.:02:57.

criticism of the investigation and the search is mounting. Complaints

:02:58.:03:02.

the Malaysians are not co-ordinating the investigation. It is haphazard.

:03:03.:03:07.

There does not seem to be any reason or centralised control. The idea

:03:08.:03:14.

that the plane may have veered off course, without communication, is

:03:15.:03:17.

hard to explain. But experts say that this means the pilot may have

:03:18.:03:23.

been rogue, perhaps a hijacking. But there is no evidence of that and so

:03:24.:03:30.

the mystery continues. As you say, the focus shifts to the men who were

:03:31.:03:34.

flying the plane. Any clues that their lives may have left behind.

:03:35.:03:39.

Our correspondent has spent the day tracking down new details. The

:03:40.:03:50.

captain was a pilot's pilot. Seen on his YouTube channel at the controls

:03:51.:03:54.

of a flight simulator. This is a you Tube video that I have made as a

:03:55.:04:07.

community service -- you Tube. A veteran of the airline. But his

:04:08.:04:11.

co-pilot was much less experienced. Today, it was said they would be

:04:12.:04:16.

investigating reports he was an airborne playboy, violating safety

:04:17.:04:21.

standards. According to an Australian news report, these two

:04:22.:04:24.

women were invited by the pilot to ride with him in the cockpit on the

:04:25.:04:30.

fight to Kuala Lumpur. They turned in their seats, talking to us, and

:04:31.:04:34.

they were engaged in conversation. There is nothing known about the

:04:35.:04:38.

pilots that suggest foul play. But their backgrounds are coming into

:04:39.:04:43.

focus. That comes with a report the plane veered off course for an hour

:04:44.:04:47.

after turning off its transponder tracking signal, raising questions

:04:48.:04:54.

of a hijacking or pilot suicide. We cannot discount any theory. Who had

:04:55.:04:59.

the ability to turn the transmitter? Just last month, the co-pilot of an

:05:00.:05:05.

Indeo PN airliner, landed in Switzerland, seeking asylum. This

:05:06.:05:15.

has been tied to the mysterious crash of an Air France flight into

:05:16.:05:20.

the Atlantic, when they found the pilot flew into dangerous weather

:05:21.:05:24.

and did not take other action after developing a mechanical problems.

:05:25.:05:28.

Authorities tell ABC News the homes of the two pilots have been

:05:29.:05:32.

searched, looking for clues that might answer the mystery of why are

:05:33.:05:41.

and how, the plane disappeared. Next, a bold move in the battle over

:05:42.:05:47.

Obamacare. Even if you are President of the US, if you want the attention

:05:48.:05:52.

of young Americans, you put your dignity on the line and go where

:05:53.:05:57.

they laugh. Tonight, and impudent website has recruited hundreds of

:05:58.:06:03.

people to check out Obamacare, all because the president sat down with

:06:04.:06:12.

the funny guy from the Hangover. My guest today is President Barack

:06:13.:06:17.

Obama. The strangest presidential interview ever? First question. In

:06:18.:06:30.

2013, what do you have planned for 2014? We will probably pardon

:06:31.:06:44.

another turkey. Barack Obama appeared on the internet show for

:06:45.:06:49.

one reason, to push young people to unroll in Obamacare, with just three

:06:50.:06:53.

weeks to the final deadline. What did you come here to plug? It is

:06:54.:06:59.

fair to say I would not be with you today if I didn't have something to

:07:00.:07:02.

plug. Have you heard of the Affordable Care Act? I'll yet, I

:07:03.:07:06.

heard about that. That is the thing that doesn't work. It works great

:07:07.:07:12.

now, and millions of Americans have got health insurance plans. Will

:07:13.:07:20.

this get young people to signup? By midday more than 6 million people

:07:21.:07:27.

have watched the video, and 19,000 had gone directly to signup.

:07:28.:07:34.

Staying in Washington, the gloves were off amid allegations of spy

:07:35.:07:38.

games. Senators accusing the CIA of spying on their work. Tonight, the

:07:39.:07:46.

justice department is investigating. Today, the spy agency is accused of

:07:47.:07:53.

spying on the US Senate, infiltrating computers used by the

:07:54.:07:58.

intelligence committee. I have great concerns that the CIA search may

:07:59.:08:01.

have violated the separation of powers principles. It stems from a

:08:02.:08:07.

Senate investigation into the CIA's secret interrogation techniques used

:08:08.:08:13.

after 911. Senate staffers were invited into an undisclosed CIA

:08:14.:08:18.

office to review documents. It was there that the CIA secretly searched

:08:19.:08:24.

computers, removing documents. Nearly 1000 pages went missing. The

:08:25.:08:29.

CIA director strenuously denies the charges. Nothing would be further

:08:30.:08:34.

from the truth. The White House says it is taking the allegations

:08:35.:08:42.

seriously. A CIA officer says he has never seen such a stand. I recall

:08:43.:08:48.

nothing like this. One senator is seen tonight, this is Nixon staff.

:08:49.:08:57.

Federal investigators say they are on the trail of what could be a

:08:58.:09:01.

staggering crime. 37,000 pills missing from a string of stores in

:09:02.:09:08.

California. All of them for a prescription painkiller, which is

:09:09.:09:12.

found in like an end. It is one of the most widely used prescription

:09:13.:09:21.

drugs. -- Vicodin. Authorities say the pills may have already been sold

:09:22.:09:23.

on the black market. Tonight, March is living up to its

:09:24.:09:29.

billing. Despite the taste of spring weather, 89 million people across 14

:09:30.:09:35.

states are back under winter watches. This raises new fear about

:09:36.:09:40.

floods as how meteorologist shows us.

:09:41.:09:48.

A flood emergency in the west. Ice germs terrorising towns from Montana

:09:49.:09:55.

to Wyoming. Dozens stranded as floods wash out roads. In Wyoming, a

:09:56.:10:03.

drone, capturing the immense scope of that ice jam. Much of the issue,

:10:04.:10:15.

the rapid swing into spring. Look at how much snow cover we had just a

:10:16.:10:21.

week ago, almost 54%. Earlier today, that was cut by more than half.

:10:22.:10:25.

While the surge of warmth is exciting, what goes up is already

:10:26.:10:30.

coming down. West of Denver, this snow is heading east. We had 65

:10:31.:10:38.

degrees here in Central Park, spring fever has gone wild behind me. But,

:10:39.:10:42.

there are ugly reminders of the harsh winter still around, but won't

:10:43.:10:48.

melt. We are about to get cold. Snow on the way for some folks. From

:10:49.:10:53.

Chicago to Detroit, and Cleveland you will get it tonight. Five to

:10:54.:11:02.

eight inches likely. In Interior New England, Wednesday night through

:11:03.:11:05.

Thursday it will really start to push into Vermont, and places like

:11:06.:11:14.

that. Saint Lewis at 81 degrees today, and by tomorrow their high

:11:15.:11:23.

temperature only in the 30s. -- St Louis Full --.

:11:24.:11:32.

Next, finding more happiness in your life. The search that started with a

:11:33.:11:41.

panic attack on live TV. Dan Harris sharing the secret he found for a

:11:42.:11:42.

happier life. Next, the search of the secret of

:11:43.:12:25.

changing your life. Last night, Dan Harris told you about a panic attack

:12:26.:12:30.

on live TV. That was the wake-up call that started him asking the

:12:31.:12:33.

questions about the way we can all get more control of what really

:12:34.:12:37.

makes us happy. Tonight, he brings the simple answer he found, and

:12:38.:12:41.

which takes only five minutes per day. We are going to go to Dan

:12:42.:12:50.

Harris at the newsdesk. This is me, ten years ago, having a panic attack

:12:51.:12:56.

on good morning America. My heart is racing, my palms sweating, literally

:12:57.:13:03.

cannot breathe. This meltdown was all, I later learned, brought on by

:13:04.:13:07.

a personal struggle so many of us face. A combination of doubt, drive,

:13:08.:13:14.

depression and drug abuse. So, I went in search of something to tame

:13:15.:13:20.

my mind. I interviewed a gaggle of gurus. Joe Vitale, who charges for a

:13:21.:13:34.

ride in his Rolls Royce. To more mainstream figures, like Deepak

:13:35.:13:46.

Chopra. It turns out, all along, there was a simple way to turn down

:13:47.:13:53.

a voice in our heads. Something this fidgety, sceptical reporter always

:13:54.:13:57.

thought to be uniquely ridiculous. Meditation. Then I found out that

:13:58.:14:04.

millions of Americans are doing it. Lots of successful people are

:14:05.:14:08.

included, from the co-founder of Twitter, two athletes like Novak

:14:09.:14:17.

Djokovic, to US Marines. The ability to steal the deafening quiet of

:14:18.:14:24.

meditation, you can realise that those dangerous voices you hear

:14:25.:14:29.

saying that you are not good enough, can be turned down. There are

:14:30.:14:34.

basically three steps. Number one, sit upright. It can be on a chair,

:14:35.:14:42.

on the floor, whatever. Number Ten, feel your breath coming in and out.

:14:43.:14:53.

Number three, return your attention to your breath when your mind starts

:14:54.:14:59.

to wander. Scientific studies show that meditation can, among other

:15:00.:15:02.

things, lower your blood pressure and boost your immune system. Brain

:15:03.:15:09.

scans show that short daily doses of meditation, literally grow the grey

:15:10.:15:14.

matter in areas associated with self-awareness and compassion, and

:15:15.:15:17.

shrink the area associated with stress. Meditation doesn't just help

:15:18.:15:24.

the blood pressure. It helps with things like psoriasis, and

:15:25.:15:29.

autoimmune disease. It changes how your body response to the world

:15:30.:15:34.

outside. What has done for me, the guy who once had a panic attack in

:15:35.:15:39.

front 5 million people? Meditation has helped me slow down enough that

:15:40.:15:42.

the good stuff in my life has become more vivid, from the fact that BBC

:15:43.:15:47.

News allows me to be a co-anchor, to eating cookies with my wife, to

:15:48.:15:52.

playing with our cats, even if they don't like it as much as I do.

:15:53.:15:59.

Five minutes! Yes, I say five minutes. Nobody is so busy that they

:16:00.:16:06.

can't do five minutes. I was able to focus on what is happening right

:16:07.:16:10.

now, rather than being lost in times of the past. Why only being 10%

:16:11.:16:22.

happier? Athletes and economists will tell you that 10% is a pretty

:16:23.:16:24.

good return. From couch potato cats to pooches

:16:25.:16:38.

with porches, you tube is full of fat pets. They say a moment on the

:16:39.:16:47.

lips, a lifetime on the hips. Little wonder America's obesity problem

:16:48.:16:50.

extends to our 4-legged friends. Now, a high-tech solution. This is

:16:51.:16:58.

the first of several fitness track for animals to come on the market.

:16:59.:17:03.

It clicks onto the dog's Kholo, and keeps a log of their activity,

:17:04.:17:08.

sending it to your phone. It is especially useful for animals left

:17:09.:17:12.

alone through most of the day. I can access and check up on how much

:17:13.:17:17.

exercise she is getting. How much exercise your dog needs depends on

:17:18.:17:21.

its age and breed. The device not only keeps track, it also lets you

:17:22.:17:28.

see how your pet stacks up. You can compare it to other dogs in the same

:17:29.:17:33.

age and weight group. It won't teach an old dog new tricks. Maintaining

:17:34.:17:39.

that girlish figure is hard work. This high-tech device is just one

:17:40.:17:45.

more piece of motivation. Thank you for watching.

:17:46.:17:59.

A promise of dry weather across the country throughout the week is

:18:00.:18:06.

holding true. The area of high pressure that has been influencing

:18:07.:18:09.

our weather recently is drifting away

:18:10.:18:10.
