across the US couple of hours ago. Welcome. Tonight, a breakthrough in

the search for the missing passenger plane. A US ship races to a new

site. Word that the plane continued to fly four hours after it vanished

from radar. And, what ABC news has learned about clues suggesting this

may not have happened by accident. On the move, Russian forces

preparing to invade Crimea? And, should shoes worn by US military be

made here in the USA? A big decision coming our way.

We bring you breaking news in the mystery of the passenger plane that

vanished into thin air. US investigators tell ABC news they are

considering the possibility, based on new clues, that what went on

inside the cockpit of this play may not have been an accident. All of

this as the US ship races to a new location.

Two sources have told ABC news that two communication systems on the

triple seven were shut down separately, suggesting there was not

a catastrophic failure. They shut down less than an hour into flight.

Our source called it systematic. This, as the surge is expanding.

American ships are on the move tonight, looking for the jetliner

even further away from its original flight path. Our top source says

there is an indication it went down in the Indian Ocean, so the search

grid is getting bigger and could get much bigger. Two senior US officials

told us that the plane may have flown up to four hours after its

last sighting on radar. It was apparently pinging a satellite every

power. It is part of a monitoring system airlines can pay for the keep

track of jets in the air. Malaysia Airlines was not paying, but our

sources say that even if the airline is not buying the data, the signal

still scope to the satellite. Based on some new information, and

additional search area may be opened in the Indian Ocean. Flying four

hours at at that speed mean it could have gone hundreds of miles. I don't

think the aircraft is underwater and you will get a valid signal coming

from the of the sea. This latest information comes from US sources.

Remember those satellite photos from China that showed floating debris,

the Malaysians looked today and found nothing. They say they were

told by the Chinese that the images were released by mistake. With our

sources telling us these communication systems were shut down

deliberately, that would suggest either a hijacking or pilot suicide.

Now, the search area is shifting to the Indian Ocean. 2400 square miles,

they will do a grid over it. It will take months to search.

If it is possible that there was control still inside the cockpit,

and the plane was airborne for hours, could it have reached land?

If so, where? Could the plane have soared straight

past where they are searching in the ocean, crashing on dry land or even

landing safely? The closest island is here. It is a tiny, rocky spot,

jutting out of the ocean. No likelihood of a landing. Further

out, we reach a group of 600 tiny islands and rocks, some popular with

tourists. At only 37 of the islands are actually inhabited. The others

are full of dense forest, but isolated. The odd that, the vast

Indian Ocean. If the plane was flying for four or five hours, widen

at the lens, and you can see that it could have reached as far as the

jungles of Thailand, Burma, or India. There was enough fuel on

board to reach those destinations. Experts say that there are spots

in Kuala Lumpur are in full force, but many are wondering that if the

plane was travelling for hours, would the search be shifting in that

an elaborate plan to take the aircraft somewhere and do something

with it. All of those things we were thinking about yesterday were

probably leaning more towards something that those pilots or one

of the pilot did, that involved something catastrophic. What that

illiterate act may be is still to be determined. Four hours. We now know

that it flew for four to five hours. Dig about how far it could have gone

in and length of time. We know this from some US capability. Do we know

pretty much exactly where the plane is? Unfortunately not. The data that

is coming out just says that the aeroplane was airborne. It doesn't

tell us how fast it was going or in what direction. All we know is that

it was flying. That means it could be anywhere within about 3500 miles.

Is it possible that the plane could have landed somewhere and we have no

idea? It is possible, but that would be a stretch. Following a new twist

in the clues. The end of 18 will be staying on the street to bring you

new details. Now we turn to the other big news of the day - the

Ukraine. The growing fear of Russian military action. The vote is coming.

We look at the countdown. Preparing a full-scale invasion, that is what

Ukraine fears these Russian forces are doing. Almost 9000 troops,

hundreds of tanks and artillery. Russian forces already control the

peninsular. After a referendum on Sunday it will almost certainly

asked to join Russia. There is no justification, no legality to the

referendum. So far, neither threats nor diplomacy have produced results.

Ukraine's instability is becoming deadly. In the eastern city of

Donetsk, at least two were reported killed. An ominous sign of a country

being pulled apart. Vladimir Putin said Russia did not instigate the

crisis. He appears ready to welcome Crimea. The question is, will he

wants more? The unrest in Ukraine rustled American stocks here at

home. The market in a freefall, down more than 200 points after news of

the Russian troops on the move. Next - a crash into a crowd of their

popular music festival. Mayhem in the streets of Boston after police

they a drunk driver blasted through barricades. Tonight we are seeing

the face of the alleged driver. Police say they believe it was an

intentional act. The made in America team are back. Washington is taking

the challenge to the Pentagon. Should American employees were shoes

who's foot. All it needs now is the sole. If we can find them, what

about Washington? The Pentagon tell us that the Department of defence

has heard from several manufacturers saying they could produce a 100%

American-made shoe. They added, we are evaluating the proposals. On

Capitol Hill, some lawmakers say it is a no-brainer. I found a senator

who told me about the labels on the sneakers. They are made in Vietnam,

China, all over the world. She points out a 1941 law requires every

part to be made in America. She says there is a loophole for sneakers. I

have heard the conversation change in America. Fuelled by workers.

Three new balance factories are sending a message. They have also

sent us the prototype they have pitched to the Pentagon. Others shoe

companies are also saying they can do it here. An ultraviolet pen,

to stop the blood. A downer, and a shattered door. It was

reconstructed. When he realised he had killed Reeva Steenkamp, the

story is that he put in his prosthetics to knock down the door.

A forensics expert suggested he lied. The marks on the door are

consistent with him not having his legs on. The prosecution has accused

of lying, suggesting the death was anything but an accident.

It is hard to believe it has been a year since they show a cardinal from

Argentina walked onto the balcony as Pope Francis. He marked the

anniversary with this post on Twitter. He also received an

invitation from the U.S. Congress to address a joint session. If he says

power to heal, like a doctor, with medicine. We have strangers saving

fragile lives. The neonatal intensive care unit, full of

machines, bells, safeguarding the most fragile lives. Babies like

these, twins born three months premature. How reassuring is the

sound of that voice? Oliver clings to it, and that is that his father,

not even a nurse. He is a volunteer at a children's hospital. He and his

wife have been cuddling babies here for 16 years. The nurses were

telling me that this has an immediate impact for these babies.

It is measurable. Look at this blue number. That is blood oxygenation.

As it starts to climb, the babies are relaxing. This doctor says it

leads to better tolerance of pain, more stable body tablature, and

stronger vital signs. In your childhood, your mum's hard was the
