Good evening. Diane is back tomorrow. We begin with the upset in

Washington. The Republican leader out. No one saw this coming. Once a

rising star in the Republican party, defeated by an underdog, an unknown

who raise less money for his campaign that he spent eating out.

What our voters telling Washington? How did he explain his loss? Our

correspondent reports. House majority leader Erich Kantor said he

is stepping down. Not in disgrace, but in a defeat he didn't see

coming. I am leaving the political analysis to do. White he lost to

this man, a virtually unknown college professor on a tea party

wave. . He orchestrated the coup from his Virginia headquarters with

two paid workers. This country has got to change. Kantor raised $5

million, 50 times more. He spent more at stake houses than his

opponent raised over all. As he wrote $9,000 cheques for jets,

expenses like $87 on office supplies were spent at Walmart. Brat will do

in his car last month. In contrast, Kantor arrived, making him seem

unstoppable. Kantor exuded confidence, but was caught offguard

and in the final weeks, the professor beat back an onslaught of

Kantor's TV ads with his own Youtube commercials. Crony capitalist putter

in DC. Also in his corner, conservative radio, making him a

star as the candidate to voters sent a message against the Washington

establishment. `` as the candidate against immigration. You learnt

about is amongst the establishment. I am told that speakers cried in an

emotional movement. He has been in the trench with his leader. Along.

And you fight about his replacement. `` his leader for so long. Now for

the high school shooting in Oregon. We learn about the gunmen and what

he carried in his guitar case and his back. Also, this image, look at

the bullet hole in the T`shirt. It is the gym teacher we learnt did

something to save so many. Our correspondent from the scene. Police

said the teenager responsible for this rampage was a 15`year`old

freshman, who arrived at school as though it were just another day. He

arrived on a school bus yesterday morning carrying a guitar case and a

bag. Inside, the assault rifle he used, plus a hunting knife, a

handgun and nine clips of ammunition. He obtained the weapons

from his family home. They had been secured, but he had defeated the

security measures. Authorities say he went into the locker room near

the gym, where he shot and killed his fellow freshmen. He killed the

`` the football coach heard what was happening and raced down to down the

alarm. The gunmen raced at the shooting. Look closely at the

loophole in his T`shirt. The local mayor told him the coaches quick

thinking saved lives. The lockdown was the saviour. He police say his

death was a suicide `` he is a hero. There are tough questions ahead.

Graduation is set for tomorrow and will go forward as planned, but will

include a memorial. We get a more clear picture of the

danger in American roadways. How long have drivers in tractor

trailers being a way? The driver at the centre of the crash involving

Tracey Morgan is in court today and we learn about his long commute

before he began his work. Our correspondent reports. Truck driver

Kevin Rudd are silent and in court, accused of slamming his truck into

the limo carrying Tracey Morgan. He is charged with vehicular homicide.

We investigate his com mute, and say he lives in Georgia but works in

Delaware. The accident happened in New Jersey. Prosecutors allege he

hadn't slept for 24 hours. His writing partner was killed and he

himself is still in a critical condition. Today, we hear first`hand

from a friend who was in the limo. It happened fast. When it stopped,

she was on top of me and I did not see anyone else. It is believed the

driver fell asleep at the wheel and intense debate comes. This woman is

sounding the alarm since her son was killed in a crash. 65% of drivers

admit to falling asleep at the wheel. Truckers tell us they don't

rest enough. This job is not easy to get sleep. Truckers are limited to

70 hour work weeks but Congress moves ahead with plans to raise the

limit to 82 hours, leading advocates like this woman to worry the

situation will worsen. The driver has pleaded not guilty and Walmart

tell us that as the fax continue to unfold, we will review our policies

and procedures. Millions of Americans in the path of

extreme weather. Those storms moving.

Tonight, the threat of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms drenching the

East. In North Carolina, two girls were kidnapped when this tree was

trapped on their house. `` trapped when this tree fell on the house.

Out west, some Colorado streams are dangerously above normal. It

ten`year`old girl and her parents had to be rescued by firefighters.

Those turbulent waters also aggravating the moment Kevin's

weekend rafting trip goes from adventure to nightmare. It takes

your breath away as soon as you hit it. It was quite frightening.

Everyone made it, but another man who fell out of a nearby raft was

killed. There are a flood warnings as new thunderstorms move into

night. We can now bring in a meteorologist

from Philadelphia. Great to have you with us. Let us get the right to the

two main areas of severe weather. One is across the nation's

heartland, from Texas to Minnesota. Also in the mid`Atlantic. The threat

of tornadoes continues. These storms have a history of producing damaging

winds. Slowly it is shifting to the east. Those violent storms will be

moving into the Gulf Coast. It all is going to expand north`east. This

atmosphere is loaded with moisture. Thank you. One more image before we

move on. This one from Texas. This house is teetering after this chunk

of Earth gave way. The family moved to just a couple of weeks ago at the

first signs of trouble. Overseas, we go to the crisis unfolding in Iraq.

A city in the north taken over by a terrorist group. We all remember

that iconic moment 11 years ago when US forces toppled Saddam Hussein's

statue in Baghdad, that city is bracing itself.

With breathtaking speed and Brickell de, the militants are advancing

towards Iraq's capital of Baghdad. Seizing American supplied vehicles

and weapons left behind by the Iraqi troops we trained who are now

abandoning their posts. Leaving hundreds of thousands of families

running from the violence. The militants so ferocious and barbaric

that even al`Qaeda disavowed them. Their goal is to build a brutally

strict Islamic state across the region. Trained in the chaos of

Syria, there have taken down one major city after an hour. Today it

was Tikrit's that fell. We saw the growing violence ourselves.

Thousands already killed. Retired General Peter spent two year

commanding troops in Iraq. All the Americans I served with, who served

in Iraq and died in Iraq and were wounded in Iraq watching this

unfolding the most unfortunate way possible. It is heartbreaking. We

can now go to Washington. What are they saying in Baghdad tonight?

Residents are afraid to move. Military forces from Baghdad have

been sent to form a defensive line 20 miles from the capital. But the

forces they just run. Now to another crisis, this would

fall `` one on the American border. Children getting trapped in limbo.

People sleeping on what looks like foil. One snapshot of what some are

calling on humanitarian problem. Exclusive new video raising new

questions. It is a huge humanitarian crisis on the border right now. A

gigantic unprecedented surge of minors. Without parents or

guardians. Crossing on their own by the thousands. Captured by the

younger children packed into cages on hard floors. Advocacy groups

complaining to the Department of Homeland Security that 80% of the

children have inadequate food and water. It is gruesome. I do not know

what you would call this. They are prisoners. The children are supposed

to be transferred within 72 hours. Into a more humane setting. A first

look at what the children do. Cafeterias, classrooms. And gym

classes. A far different scene from these children's first stop.

Undeniably there is a problem of humanitarian proportions. We must

deal with it. Most of the children crossing the border illegally are

not from Mexico. They are from Central America. There are often

fleeing violent crime. The number one point of origin is Honduras.

Our hidden team will stay on this. In the meantime, more ahead. The

couple who spent thousands on the trip of a lifetime left with nowhere
