at the news as seen across the United States a couple of hours ago,

in ABC World News with David Muir. Tonight, breaking news as hurricane

Arfa hits. This is a monster hurricane 400 miles wide. There are

mandatory evacuations. In a showdown near the border, a bus full of

families who tried to cross the border, stopped by angry protesters.

Inside the fiery meeting of neighbours taking sides. A mother

and son were swallowed by a sinkhole. This is the one won one

call. `` 911. And a sunken cruise ship, what it reveals.

Diane is with her family this holiday. As we go to air, millions

of Americans are bracing for Hurricane Arthur. This

could be a category two hurricane. 4th of July celebrations have been

cancelled all across the coast. We are reminded that at least three

storms all named Arthur have taken aim at North Carolina. We

are tracking every step of this hurricane. This is the earliest that

North Carolina have seen a hurricane. It is the same setup.

There is plenty of warm water. It will move into colder waters, which

will collect and share it down. This is timing. By 2pm on Friday, it is

south`east of New York and then it will go to new England.

Massachusetts will steal it. `` feel it. The cold front will sweep a lot

of it away. There will be 90 mph winds. I want to look at this hour

by hour. That is at 2pm tomorrow at Boston. All of this will clear out

by the time we see the weekend. There will be some showers in the

early morning. These are the warnings. Please be careful if you

are in coastal North Carolina. Hurricane Arthur has turned across

North Carolina. There are traffic jams and blinding rain to get

through. We join our reporter. We have watched Hurricane Arthur come

in. We have started to feel it over the past hour or so. The wind and

rain that comes with it becomes colder. It will become worse in the

coming hours. The Carolina coastline tonight was lashed with wind and

rain. Hurricane Arthur 's storm clouds come into Carolina. The

midday sky is black. 35 miles out to sea, there are as wells as taut as

two building. `` swells as tall as two`storey buildings. Roads are

blocked with crashed cars. This line to walk the coast stretches miles

down the road. People are driving away from the coast and traffic is

bad. With the storm coming, people are boarding up. Many are heeding

the Governor 's Corp. Of those areas that are not evacuated, peace hunker

down. We are surprised to see that people are still here. It seems that

a lot of people didn't get the word that the storm is headed directly

for this town. Four inches of rain is forecast over the next 12 hours.

Flooding is going to be an issue. Moving up the coast where there are

mandatory evacuations under way, families are giving up evacuation

plans and are trying to get out of harm 's way. We had to our reporter.

Families are on the move. Some families have left, but others have

decided to stay and ride out the storm. This is the bulls eye of this

hurricane. It is the earliest to hit North Carolina in recorded history.

As it moved up the coast, the signs to evacuate were clear. They told

you to go and you are? It is better than having our car flooded. They

are packing up their vacation here. We are going to safe grounds and

hope they call us back. Thousands of residents and vacationers have to

decide whether to stay or go. We thought we might leave later this

afternoon. This family are keeping their eyes on the TV for the

first hurricane of the season that is taking strength. Shutters are

going up aren't they are trying to protect Windows from debris, which

can do this. Businesses are worried that their cash registers will be

hit by the storm. This is traditionally the busiest week of

the year. The timing is not good. Back at their vacation home, they

have made a decision about leaving. Are you going to stay? I think we

will. We will write it out. I heard you mention a fourth place, called

Arthurs. It is an oyster bar. They are selling out of their T`shirts.

We are going to find out just how awful they are in a couple of hours.

There is one more concern from the storm. A major breach that connects

communities has been damaged before and they have now put a new one end.

It is going to be a test. There are concerns are baked a vital

lifeline. This is a bridge that connects the islands of the owl to

banks. It recently reopened. There are worries that as Hurricane Arthur

approaches, a major storm surge could create major damage which

would cut off communities. This is some of the damage that hurricane

Sandy did. It buckled bridges and isolated towns. They will watch that

carefully. across Napa Valley. So far, no one

has been injured. An emotional meeting in Southern California.

Protesters blocking a boss of undocumented immigrants, forcing it

to turn around. Neighbours say they are not welcome.

is an invasion. A wealthy community 90 miles from the border that now

symbolises the fear and anger some feel towards the Central American

children and their mothers illegally crossing into the US.

Why can't we just send them back across the border? Their

demonstration blocked a convoy of buses carrying the immigrants for

processing in their town. A hotbed of outrage and misinformation.

President Obama went to all of those countries and invited them all in.

There is no evidence of that but it is close to what Rick Perry said at

this Congressional hearing today. You can cross and the federal

government will not impede you. That is why Americans are upset. The

White House says it is aggressively sending the opposite message, today

unveiling a new commercial campaign in the Spanish, bearing in Central

America and telling the story We spent weeks on the scene with

these new pictures tonight. Divers tonight taking us on an eerie tour

into the doomed Costa Concordia, capturing haunted images of a

disaster frozen in time. Here, winding up a case of stairs inside

the vessel, then a reception area, as it was left when passengers fled

for their lives. Finally emerging from the water into the huge central

atrium of the ship. The rules still prominent on the walls. It has been

more than two years since the luxury liner slammed into rocks in shallow

waters. Within minutes, it started flooding and tilting. The ship is

twice the size of the Titanic, and over the past year we saw how they

began hauling the ship up. We have been watching them slowly raised his

hulk of a ship, which weighs hundreds of tons. Later this month,

it will be floated to a nearby port and scrapped. Tonight, these

lingering images of a tragedy at sea.

Extraordinary pictures. Back at home, they thank you note from a

former president. We showed you former President George Bush jumping

out of a plane, and tonight he says he heard from so many people, he

thinks his friends for getting his 90th year off to a wonderful start.

We have a passing note. Louisa Porrini has died, and if you are one

of the many who has read this book, you will know he was a track star,

Japanese prison camp. He likes to say that the secret to survival was

soldiers coming home as well. Helping them to get new appliances,

helping them to move. Every spare moment he has he dedicates to them,

and never asks for anything. But what he didn't know, was that his

community became aware of his efforts. Both of these players about

to run a new idea, operation home makeover. We have to think of an

elaborate plan to get him out of his house, and then for us to stay in

his house for a few days. They told him he had to go on a short road

trip for a charity weekend. With Eric gone, the Colts assembled a

different team, bringing in new furniture, and looking for a new

place for homework for his daughters. And a new man cave for

him. On this war will have his army should frame. After three days, Eric
