United States a couple of hours ago, in ABC World News with Dianne

Sawyer. Welcome to World News. Tonight, flight alert: all US

airlines told to stop their flights to Israel. One plane was diverted

mid`flight after a rocket breaches the iron Dome. New evidence about

the final seconds for all those passengers on Malaysian flight MH17.

And the big mystery, who scaled the Brooklyn Bridge, stole the American

flags, and put these up instead? Good evening to you on this Tuesday

night. As we come on the air, every US airline in this nation has been

put on notice. Do not fly into Israel's biggest city for the next

24 hours. This is an extraordinary warning. Something the FA hasn't

done in more than 20 years. Our correspondent is on the ground ``

FAA. A powerful rocket managed to penetrate the legendary iron Dome.

You can see right here, it happened this morning. A rocket was launched

into this neighbourhood, landed in this spot, completely shattering

this area behind me. This is less than one mile from tell the airport.

This is a very close call. So close `` Tel Aviv. So close in fact that

our flight was rerouted to Paris mid`flight. Prompting the call for

all US carriers to be prohibited from flying to or from Tel Aviv for

24 hours. A move not seen since the first Gulf War in 1991. The

passenger jet being shot down over Ukraine has raised the fear of

flights over war zones. On a given day, a large number of flights from

around the world here. Tonight, flight radar showing skies over

Israel quiet. The rocket which forced the flight to be rerouted it

just after 10am. Israel's defence system failed to intercept it. The

woman inside this bedroom survived. A neighbour left for work at just

five minutes before it struck. He believes Hamas was targeting the

airport, but hit this instead. From here, one kilometres straight.

Casualty numbers rising on both sides tonight. Israel struck several

targets inside Gaza today. More than 630 Palestinians have been killed in

the past 15 days. The UN believes 75% could be innocent civilians. As

for Israel, seems like this. Thousands at a funeral for a soldier

killed. 28 soldiers and two civilians killed so far. The

military confirming one of the soldiers is Bill missing, unclear

whether he is dead or alive. There is no indication right now of any

upcoming ceasefire. `` still missing. Israel continues to brace

itself for attacks like this. And from the Middle East, to the

Ukraine. New evidence about flight MH17. Those last seconds before the

passenger plane was blown out of the sky. Tomorrow the first bodies of

the Thames will arrive in the Netherlands. The nation that, and

the families, observing morning `` tomorrow, the first bodies of the

victims will arrive at the Netherlands. Today, the passengers

of flight 17 were taken from the crash site to the Ukrainian city of

Kharkiv. Then they will fly to the Netherlands, which lost hundreds of

it citizens. I am very aware of the fact that for my people, Rahm my

country, we are bringing our victims back home. `` from my country.

Ukraine. While the US Embassy posted a schematic diagram pinpointing

where they believe the missile intercept of the plane, here at the

crash site, a team of Malaysian and Dutch investigators got unfettered

access to examine the wreckage, looking for crew tarmac clues. This

is the kind of thing investigators will be looking at. Is it shrapnel

damage? Is a damage from the breakup of the plant? And has the wreckage

been tampered with? International monitors said that the wreckage was

significantly altered since the crash, and that they have seen local

workers cutting away at it. We did see workers using a diesel powered

soar to get a closer look at the fuselage. We can't draw conclusions,

that is not our role. But that is an observation we have made. Tonight

the intelligence community is doubling down on the claim that

Russia is ultimately responsible for the attack. They point to pictures

of the wreckage, which they say shows strong evidence of a

Russian`made missal fired from rebel held territory, which brought down

the plane `` missile. And ABC aviation consultant, up a retired

fighter pilot. We know what it may have been, in the moments before the

missile hit the plane. That's right. The missile defence system we see in

the graphic is believed to have been responsible for bringing down the

aeroplane. When it gets close to the target, it explodes a warhead which

sends out a large fan, impacting with pieces of hot metal into the

target is attacking. It explodes away, but sends a spray towards the

target. We have seen pictures which appear to show this sort of damage,

from these hot pieces of metal which will puncture the skin and goat into

the aeroplane. It looks very much like shrapnel damage. And a question

about the black boxes. Can they be penetrated without anybody knowing?

Would you know for sure if they had been tabled with? There are seals on

them. So they will make sure the seals are unbroken. Even if somebody

could get inside, they could not change what is recorded on those

programmes. So we will be confident in knowing whether it has been

tampered with or not. In New York, a mystery that is

raising security concerns. Two white flags are cross New York landmarks.

Who put them there and why? And airy site flying high across the Brooklyn

Bridge. There are normally American flags. The ability to pull this off

is as troubling as it is mysterious. There is an indication of pre`

operational planning. The Stars and Stripes normally fly

around the clock, take a look at this footage at 3:30am. The weaving

American flag suddenly disappears. Watch again. That light seems to go

out. Police said that these alumina hands we used to cover the bridge

lights. `` aluminium pans. After taking down these symbols of

surrender, police reviewed the footage of people crossing the

bridge. Your security is not effective. What more of a signed you

need to show you that you are not doing a good job? This is a high

profile terrorist target and is under 24`hour surveillance. On this

bridge, there are three security cameras just there. There is also a

sign alerting you to presence. The NYPD are having a full review. The

police say that whoever was responsible had training in climbing

and construction. They don't believe this was a terrorist act. They

believe it may be an elaborate art project. Next, to Washington state

and a wildfire which is the largest in the history of the state. We are

talking to the family who are so grateful to be alive. This wildfire

in central Washington is raging out of control. This video shows deer on

the scorched earth. Some of these homes were burnt to their

foundations. It was very hard to come here. I teared up. We sifted

through and tried to find some memories. It is all gone. It is the

largest fire in Washington State history. The fire is nearly five

times the size of Seattle. 2100 firefighters on the ground and 150

homes have burned. The fire darkens the sky with an eerie red. These

trees are the perfect fuel. The rain is giving the firefighters time to

build fire lines. The file started because of lightning strikes. We go

to Washington, DC and they day for Obamacare in the Federal Court. The

decision could cause premiums to spike. Hours later, a second appeals

court issued the opposite warning, saying that Obamacare can proceed as

planned. There is a good chance that Obamacare will wind up again at the

Supreme Court. People streaming across the border. There is a 117%

increase this year in unaccompanied children 12 years old and younger.
