News with Dianne Sawyer. Welcome the world news. Tonight, the

hunt is on for the savage killers from the terrorist group ISIS.

Speaking with a British accent, executing an American. The notes,

breaking news, there was a rescue attempt that failed.

New scenes from severe storms. What the victims as he they return home.

The high`speed police chase that ended inches from customers sitting

outside in a cafe. Good evening. As we come on the

air, the hunt is on for the brutal killers from the terrorist group

ISIS. Experts are studying these eyes. The man with the British

accent who executed American journalist James Foley. A family

showing the face of strength. His mother and father anguished, but

urging everybody to be proud, to be American. We have been looking at

all the clues of the tapes. As outrage spread around the world

today over this scene, James Foley's parents said they had never

been proud of their son. He was strong, courageous, loving. We

hardly recognise our little boy. He was a hero. His last words were, I

wish I had more time. To see my family. US and British authorities

spent the day looking for clues on the video about the identity of the

hooded executioner. Using a database of known jihadist fighters to look

for a match with his eyes, his hands. It looks increasingly likely

that it is a British citizen. This is deeply shocking. In the last

year, hundreds of foreign fighters from Western Europe and the US have

joined ISIS. It has conducted a well`financed and well on the brutal

holy war, seizing large areas of Syria and Iraq. Now increasingly

threatening to US. A French hostage who was held with James fully for

seven months told ABC News that he was often singled out for harsh

punishment. He had brutal punishment. Including punishment

conspired by the American War on Terror. He filed his final report

from Syria for the global post just before he was captured. Almost two

years ago. You have been on the phone and have

raked in use? `` breaking news? That is right, about a failed rescue

attempt. There was a US military operation in Syria earlier this

summer to rescue James Foley and several others hostages. But when

they arrived, there were no hostages present. Several dozen US forces

were involved. A number of ISIS fighters were killed. There were no

American casualties apart from one slight injury. An attempt that

failed, thank you so much. The question continues, what is the US

going to do? ISIS is estimated to be more than 10,000 strong and

growing. They have taken over a third of Iraq and parts of Syria.

What are the President's options. In the gruesome murder video, James

Foley's executioner calls up President Obama by name, demanding

an end to air strikes in Iraq. We will be vigilant and we will be

relentless. When people hiring Americans anywhere, we will do what

necessary to see that justice is done. We will the cancer so it does

not spread. The US has conducted at least 40 more airstrikes since the

video was released. The President has additional options. He could

send more of weapons to Kurds on the front line. He could send special

forces. The biggest step, he could take the fight to Syria. He could

launch airstrikes for the first time on ISIS targets. The one thing the

President has ruled out sending out ground troops. But the president

accounts ending the war in Iraq as a big part of his legacy and now faces

a new fight in Iraq. We will tone now. We can go to our

correspondent has`beens begin to special forces about the number of

Westerners joining extremists. These are white people are so

concerned about James Foley's execution. The killer speaking

English is thought to be British, a Westerner. Westerners are flooding

into Iraq and Syria. Mix this 19`year`old. She looks like an

all`American girl next door. The FBI says she was hellbent on going to

Syria to join ISIS. More than 100 Americans are thought to have gone

to Iraq and Syria. There are passports could give them easy

access. There is an intensive effort under way to track these people.

Some are back at home, under investigation and surveillance. The

FBI director said they are doing everything they can and it is

possible that some Islamic radicals could slip out.

porch is also gone. The only thing that kept the home from being swept

away is that the tree. It was right here. I did not know what to do. The

threat is not over. This could be just the beginning.

And today in Japan, a massive mudslide carved a path of

destruction through parts of Hiroshima. Rescuers helped victims

escape as such teams looked for survivors. We also have an update on

the deadly Ebola virus outbreak. The death toll has jumped to 1350

people. In West Africa, Liberia, protesters clashed with soldiers as

some tried to break out of a neighbourhood quarantine. Now to

Ferguson, Missouri, a city still on edge after the death of Michael

Brown. A source close to the police officer who shot Michael Brown. He

says that the police officer 's face seriously injured. The fate of

Darren Wilson, seen in this new video, receiving a department

commendation, is now in the fate of grand jurors. The prosecuting

attorney says he will not rush the process and does not expect a

decision from the grand jury until mid October. They will have

everything there is, every piece of paper. Including a hospital picture

of Darren Wilson's face, not yet released. A source close to him says

that he suffered a serious facial injury during the initial struggle

at the patrol car window. His supporters also points to this piece

of videotape they say is key to his defence full it is taken just after

the shooting. The unarmed 18`year`old's body is still in the

street. One of them says he watched Michael Brown shot as he walked

towards the firing patrolman. Wilson's supporters say that

directly conflicts with other witnesses, who said the teenager was

moving away from the officer and turned to face Wilson with his hands

up when he was shot. The officer has not spoken publicly but the

prosecutors says that the grand jury will hear his account. Watching over

the investigation is the federal government. Today, Eric Holder shook

hands with the Highway Patrol Commander now in charge of

patrolling the streets of Ferguson. Residents are all waiting on a grand

jury is still eight weeks from a decision. And now the news on that

tense hostage drama outside Chicago Bulls top the stand`off came to an

end when heavily armed police stormed the house. Eight hostages

including six children. Police say the stand`off began when the suspect

shot at police during an attempted robbery. Two men were arrested and

no one was hurt. And a new tool for everyone confused by those car

recalls. There is a new government website that lets you put in your

car's vehicle identification number and instantly learn if there are any

recourse on your car and whether the safety issues have been fixed. ``

recalls. And now to a wild police chase in California. The driver

slams into a cafe inches away from customers sitting at a table

outside. Watch the end of this police chase, as the suspect's

vehicle slams onto a Northern California sidewalk. One coffee shop

patron is pinned against the wall. The man is wanted for alleged

domestic violence. Two police cars chased the suspect for a mile.

Injuries only in this case but last week, a car being chased in Houston

hit another vehicle, killing six people in all. Chasers happen every

day and on average, one person dies every day. 342 people killed in

2012, a reminder for this man, whose son was an innocent victim in a

police pursuit. Often times, protecting the public means breaking

the law and not continuing that pursuit. Most police departments

have guidelines of when and how to chase a suspect. Now, in 24

jurisdictions, this system. A police officer shoots a GPS tracker beacon

onto the suspect's car, allowing them to watch where the suspect
