The entertainer Rolf Harris is behind bars tonight, beginning his | :00:08. | :00:12.
sentence for indecent assaults against children. | :00:13. | :00:15.
Any word for your victims, Mr Harris? The 84-year-old has been | :00:16. | :00:20.
sentenced to five years and nine months. One woman tells of her | :00:21. | :00:24.
ordeal over 40 years ago. Actually at the time I felt that I was going | :00:25. | :00:28.
to be rained. -- going to be raped and it was very | :00:29. | :00:34.
scary. Tonight, as more alleged victims come forward the | :00:35. | :00:37.
Attorney-General has been asked to consider whether the sentence is too | :00:38. | :00:41.
lenient. The former News of the World editor, Andy Coulson, is also | :00:42. | :00:45.
in jail this evening, beginning an 18 month sentence for phone hacking. | :00:46. | :00:50.
Thousands attend the sentence of a 17-year-old Palestinian thought to | :00:51. | :00:54.
have been killed in revenge for the murder of three Israeli teenagers. | :00:55. | :01:00.
I name this ship Queen Elizabeth. May God bless her and all who sail | :01:01. | :01:04.
in her. Named with a malt whisky, the US's | :01:05. | :01:10.
largest warship sails into a debate over Scottish independence even | :01:11. | :01:15.
before it hit the water. Red, white and yellow - Yorkshire prepares for | :01:16. | :01:17.
the Tour de France this Later on BBC London - forced out by | :01:18. | :01:25.
the cost of living. London's ambulance service warns of a | :01:26. | :01:29.
recruitment service. The mayor says he will step in to help save the | :01:30. | :01:34.
free school for these children. Good evening. The entertainer and | :01:35. | :01:56.
artist Rolf Harris is spending his first night behind bars having been | :01:57. | :02:00.
sentenced to five years and nine months for indecently assaulting | :02:01. | :02:05.
girls. His youngest victim was eight years old. The judge said he showed | :02:06. | :02:10.
no remorse for his crimes and used his status to take advantage of the | :02:11. | :02:15.
girls' trust. He told him, your reputation lies in ruin, you have | :02:16. | :02:21.
no-one to blame but yourself. Rolf Harris normally loves the | :02:22. | :02:25.
cameras. This morning, he tried to avoid them. He slipped away from his | :02:26. | :02:30.
plush riverside home sitting in the back of a boat, for this, his final | :02:31. | :02:35.
morning of freedom. Any word for your victims, Mr | :02:36. | :02:42.
Harris? Any word for your victims? There was no escaping the cameras | :02:43. | :02:46.
when he arrived for sentencing. On the walk into court something made | :02:47. | :02:51.
him smile briefly. It was the only emotion we all day. | :02:52. | :02:58.
Why won't you apologise? There were strong feelings from those he | :02:59. | :03:04.
abused. One woman bumped into him on holiday in Malta. 44 years later, | :03:05. | :03:10.
her identity protected by the court. You think about being abused. | :03:11. | :03:16.
And I was abused. Without being asked. Without having | :03:17. | :03:25.
a relationship with that person. It was straight, it was an abuse. I | :03:26. | :03:30.
almost at the time felt I was going to be raped. | :03:31. | :03:36.
And it was very scary. Very scary. In court, behind him in | :03:37. | :03:41.
the dock were two little bags packed. One matched his tie. He knew | :03:42. | :03:46.
where he was going. The judge described the crimes. These were | :03:47. | :03:50.
indecent assaults according to the laws of the '70s. These days, we | :03:51. | :03:55.
call it something different - sexual assault by penetration. The victims' | :03:56. | :04:03.
ages, 15, 13, eight. The judge said, you have shown no remorse for your | :04:04. | :04:05.
crimes at all: He reminded the court this was a man | :04:06. | :04:20.
who had been on television for more than 50 years. He didn't mention the | :04:21. | :04:26.
catchphrase he had back in the '60s. I had a curious catchphrase I use at | :04:27. | :04:31.
every available opportunity. If there was a bang, or somebody said, | :04:32. | :04:37.
hey, you! I would say without thinking, I never touched her, your | :04:38. | :04:42.
honour. It was a joke, but not for his victims. His daughter's friend | :04:43. | :04:47.
said she felt the years of abuse had left her feeling dirty, grubby and | :04:48. | :04:51.
disgusting. The woman he assaulted when she was just eight, said: | :04:52. | :04:59.
When the sentence was read out, his wife's seat in court was empty. She | :05:00. | :05:07.
was too ill to attend. Watching the TV coverage was a woman who had been | :05:08. | :05:12.
assaulted when she met him for an interview. Justice, she feels, has | :05:13. | :05:16.
been done. He's 84. He is an old man. He has health problems. He | :05:17. | :05:22.
didn't take into account his victims' ages when he preyed on | :05:23. | :05:26.
them, some of them as young as seven or eight. His daughter's friend, 13, | :05:27. | :05:32.
for many years. His daughter, Bindi, his only child, had stood by him | :05:33. | :05:35.
throughout. This was, the judge said, a betrayal of trust, both of | :05:36. | :05:40.
that 13-year-old's family. And then there's the celebrity, the fame, the | :05:41. | :05:44.
image. Of course, parents and children had trust in him. He was | :05:45. | :05:47.
Rolf Harris. And he betrayed it. | :05:48. | :05:54.
Take this TV programme - no-one questioned a 16-year-old being given | :05:55. | :05:57.
the job of looking after him. She became one of two women he assaulted | :05:58. | :06:01.
that day. 36 years on, she sees punishment, | :06:02. | :06:07.
but no remorse. I wish we could do something more than send him to | :06:08. | :06:12.
prison. It has only hit home today by pleading not guilty he's taken no | :06:13. | :06:17.
responsibility. A man whose life then has been a celebration of fun | :06:18. | :06:22.
and childhood innocence, left court a convicted abuser of children, in a | :06:23. | :06:31.
speeding van, bound for prison. Our home affairs correspondent is | :06:32. | :06:35.
with me now. Rolf Harris has just begun his first night behind bars. | :06:36. | :06:39.
What do we know about what his circumstances are likely to be, | :06:40. | :06:42.
where he's being held? Someone who knows the prison system well said to | :06:43. | :06:46.
me this evening, jails are not designed for old men. Now, tonight | :06:47. | :06:51.
Rolf Harris will undoubtingly be on his own, possibly in what is called | :06:52. | :06:57.
a first night unit or in a health care unit, possibly. As a high | :06:58. | :07:02.
profile paedophile, he's in a very vulnerable position in the prison | :07:03. | :07:06.
system. Now, in the coming days he'll be assessed and a decision | :07:07. | :07:09.
will be made on where he should be moved to. If he's going to make any | :07:10. | :07:13.
progress at all during the sentence, he will have to engage with what's | :07:14. | :07:19.
called the sex offender treatment programme and, as part of that, he | :07:20. | :07:24.
will have to acknowledge his guilt and the damage he's done to his | :07:25. | :07:27.
victims. Of course, this is something he's failed to do so far. | :07:28. | :07:31.
Now, just some other strands to this story - Rolf Harris was told today | :07:32. | :07:36.
he will not face a separate trial on allegations that he downloaded | :07:37. | :07:39.
sexual images of children. But of course, as we know, since this | :07:40. | :07:43.
current trial, more women have come forward with complaints that he | :07:44. | :07:47.
assaulted them. This is in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, so he | :07:48. | :07:50.
could potentially face further charges. Also, the Attorney General | :07:51. | :07:54.
was asked today by members of the public to look at this sentence, | :07:55. | :07:58.
this five years and nine months because some are complaining it is | :07:59. | :08:01.
not harsh enough. Potentially the sentence could go back to the Court | :08:02. | :08:05.
of Appeal. All in all, it seems the Rolf Harris story may not be over | :08:06. | :08:10.
yet. Thank you. The Prime Minister's former head of | :08:11. | :08:14.
communications, Andy Coulson, has been sentenced to 18 months for | :08:15. | :08:17.
phone hacking during his time as editor of the News of the World. The | :08:18. | :08:21.
judge at the Old Bailey said Coulson was largely to blame for the hacking | :08:22. | :08:25.
of public figures and victims of crime. He described the intercepting | :08:26. | :08:32.
of a call on the mobile of Milly Dowler as "unforgiveable." | :08:33. | :08:38.
It was the day a judge literally defined the limits of press freedom. | :08:39. | :08:43.
Among those heading to bell marsh this -- to Belmarsh Prison this | :08:44. | :08:50.
afternoon, Andy Coulson. This morning, Coulson had arrived at | :08:51. | :08:54.
the Old Bailey without his wife, who was looking after their three | :08:55. | :08:56.
children. The four other men convicted in this | :08:57. | :09:03.
case stood alongside him in the doctor sentencing. | :09:04. | :09:04.
Mr Coulson, the judge said, has to take the major share of the blame | :09:05. | :09:08.
for phone hacking. He jailed him for 18 months - the maximum possible | :09:09. | :09:13.
sentence is two years. Chief reporter, Neville Thurlbeck and news | :09:14. | :09:17.
editor Greg Miskiw were each jailed for six months. Another news editor, | :09:18. | :09:23.
a four-month suspended sentence and the private investigator who did the | :09:24. | :09:27.
hacking, Glenn Mulcaire, six months, suspended. | :09:28. | :09:30.
Mr Mulcaire, do you have a statement to make? The judge told Mulcaire, | :09:31. | :09:34.
you are the lucky one, because he had served a prison sentence for | :09:35. | :09:37.
phone hacking, the judge decided against jailing him again, but | :09:38. | :09:40.
described the previous sentence as too short. | :09:41. | :09:46.
Mulcaire's notebooks reveal some of what the judge said were thousands | :09:47. | :09:50.
of phone hacks. So many that at one point he sent an e-mail says he | :09:51. | :09:55.
couldn't cope. The victims included politicians, celebrities and | :09:56. | :09:59.
royalty. The judge focussed on the hacking of Milly Dowler's phone, | :10:00. | :10:03.
noting how the paper had delayed telling police about a message they | :10:04. | :10:07.
had listened to that suggested she was still alive. | :10:08. | :10:18.
Police think the victims of the 7/7 bombings were also targeted by the | :10:19. | :10:26.
News of the World. Among them the family of David Foulkes, killed at | :10:27. | :10:31.
Edgware Road. We cannot understand why anybody would think that cheap | :10:32. | :10:36.
headlines are a good way to get a story was to invade somebody's life | :10:37. | :10:41.
at the deepest and darkest points of their life. It is a scandal that has | :10:42. | :10:45.
seen journalists jailed as the public debates the meaning of a free | :10:46. | :10:50.
press. Reporters need to know, the judge said, that punishment will | :10:51. | :10:53.
follow if breaches of the criminal law are proved. | :10:54. | :10:57.
The Prime Minister, who has apologised for bringing Andy Coulson | :10:58. | :11:01.
into Downing Street, echoed the judge's sentiments. | :11:02. | :11:05.
What it says is it is right that justice should be done and no-one is | :11:06. | :11:09.
above the law, as I have always said. Thank you. | :11:10. | :11:16.
A close friend of Andy Coulson told me she spoke to him as he travelled | :11:17. | :11:20.
to court this morning. He has decided he'll find a positive out of | :11:21. | :11:24.
this. He'll deal with it. He says it is what it is and he hopes to come | :11:25. | :11:29.
out of the other side stronger. Andy Coulson is tonight in a prison cell, | :11:30. | :11:34.
perhaps reflecting on the judge's comments on his role in phone | :11:35. | :11:38.
hacking. He knew about it and encouraged it, when he should have | :11:39. | :11:43.
stopped it. Over 100 Imams across the country | :11:44. | :11:50.
have used Friday preyers to urge -- prayers to urge young men not to go | :11:51. | :11:54.
to fight. They have come together to urge people not to go to the call | :11:55. | :11:58.
for jihad. Friday prayers at Burnley mosque. In | :11:59. | :12:12.
this, the Muslim holy month. Today, over 100 prayer leaders, Imams from | :12:13. | :12:19.
across the country have written an open letter, urging Muslims not to | :12:20. | :12:23.
go to fight and avoid sectarian divisions. All the Imams I am aware | :12:24. | :12:27.
of are committed to this statement. We as British Imams are doing | :12:28. | :12:34.
everything in our capability to get the message - a mosque is only one | :12:35. | :12:38.
of those platforms, using social media, using outlets to ensure the | :12:39. | :12:42.
message goes out to everyone who might be inclined to take part and | :12:43. | :12:47.
go and travel to Syria. Mosques all over Britain show none | :12:48. | :12:53.
of the violent ideology you see in these jihadist propaganda videos. | :12:54. | :12:57.
Today's open letter by British Imams urging young men not to fight in | :12:58. | :13:02.
Syria will be welcomed by many. The problem is the radicalisation does | :13:03. | :13:05.
not happen in the mosques, it is mostly on the internet and it is | :13:06. | :13:10.
frightening how quickly young men's minds can turn to extremism. Amidst | :13:11. | :13:16.
the malstrom of Syria's horrific civil war up to 500 British | :13:17. | :13:24.
jihadists have gone to join groups. The BBC spoke to one man who has | :13:25. | :13:26.
been there for a year now. I don't want to come back to what I | :13:27. | :13:32.
left behind. There's nothing in Britain. It is a pure evil. If and | :13:33. | :13:36.
when I come back to Britain, it will be when this Islamic state comes to | :13:37. | :13:41.
conquer Britain and I come to raise the black flag over Downing Street, | :13:42. | :13:44.
over Buckingham Palace, over Tower Bridge and over Big Ben. These are | :13:45. | :13:48.
views completely alien to most British Muslims. What makes someone | :13:49. | :13:53.
give up a life here to quite possibly die over there? | :13:54. | :14:02.
Inside Al-Qaeda one convert got a unique insight into jihadist | :14:03. | :14:06.
thinking. It is a religious call for them. They believe they must join up | :14:07. | :14:10.
with their brothers in the struggle. This unity over there and to join up | :14:11. | :14:16.
with the Islamic army and fight the disbelievers. This is the aim. These | :14:17. | :14:20.
are uncomfortable times for Britain's peaceful Muslim | :14:21. | :14:22.
communities. They can only wish that the conflict in Syria and the | :14:23. | :14:25.
unwelcome publicity will end soon. Police in the south | :14:26. | :14:37.
of France have detained a mother accused of stabbing to death her | :14:38. | :14:40.
child's teacher in front of a class of five and six-year-olds. | :14:41. | :14:43.
The attack happened in Albi, near Toulouse, shortly after | :14:44. | :14:45.
the school opened this morning. The French President, | :14:46. | :14:46.
Francois Hollande, said it was an "awful tragedy". | :14:47. | :14:49.
More than 2000 people have attended the funeral of the Palestinian | :14:50. | :14:51.
teenager who was murdered in a suspected revenge attack. | :14:52. | :14:54.
17-year-old Mohammed Abu Khdeir was kidnapped and killed on Wednesday, | :14:55. | :14:56.
just days after three Israeli teenagers were found dead | :14:57. | :15:00.
in a field in the West Bank. From East Jerusalem, James Reynolds | :15:01. | :15:01.
has sent this report. Palestinian mourners, clearing away | :15:02. | :15:16.
for the coffin of Mohammed Abu Khdeir. | :15:17. | :15:20.
He is buried near his home in East Jerusalem, the city the Palestinians | :15:21. | :15:25.
want as their capital. At least 70 Palestinian children have been | :15:26. | :15:29.
killed in the past five years. But the abduction and killing of this | :15:30. | :15:34.
16-year-old, so soon after the killing of three Israeli teenagers, | :15:35. | :15:43.
stands out. Mohammed's father here accepts condolences. Mohammed was | :15:44. | :15:47.
one of his seven children. Israel is investigating his son's death, but | :15:48. | :15:52.
he will not wait for an official answer. | :15:53. | :15:59.
TRANSLATION: My son was killed by Israeli settlers. They killed him | :16:00. | :16:03.
and burned him. We know who did this. Naftali Fraenkel, on the left | :16:04. | :16:09.
of the poster, was one of the three Israeli teenagers found dead on | :16:10. | :16:12.
Monday. His family want justice for them, and also from a hammered. -- | :16:13. | :16:21.
also for Mohammed. It is very simple. A murder is a murderer. When | :16:22. | :16:26.
we read in the Bible, thou shalt not kill, it does not say a jute, Arab | :16:27. | :16:32.
or Christian. Murder is murder and a killer, regardless of race or motive | :16:33. | :16:37.
should be brought to justice. Israel has sent forces to the edge of the | :16:38. | :16:44.
Gaza script -- the Gaza Strip. Israel says that Hamas is | :16:45. | :16:47.
responsible for killing its teenagers. Palestinians inside | :16:48. | :16:55.
Gaza, here shopping for Ramadan, fear Israel attacks. Almost 2 | :16:56. | :16:58.
million Palestinians are crowded into this strip of land. There are | :16:59. | :17:07.
rumours that Hamas fire rockets and do not accept Israel's right to | :17:08. | :17:11.
exist, but many do not want war. TRANSLATION: Look at the air strikes | :17:12. | :17:16.
against the people. The children are afraid to play outside. They did not | :17:17. | :17:20.

fear the air strikes and they fear they might be killed. We demand a | :17:25. | :17:32.
cease-fire. And in east Jerusalem, Palestinians call for justice for | :17:33. | :17:39.
16-year-old Mohammed. This week has shown Israel is and is now | :17:40. | :17:42.
Palestinians that their children, their teenagers are often the most | :17:43. | :17:48.
vulnerable. The young pay the price for a conflict waged by adults. This | :17:49. | :17:54.
week has left parents on each side more frightened and more angry. | :17:55. | :17:59.
Israelis and Palestinians share suffering, but not necessarily | :18:00. | :18:05.
understanding. James Reynolds, BBC News, juristic them. -- Jerusalem. | :18:06. | :18:14.
has sent this report. The Queen has officially named the | :18:15. | :18:17.
largest warship ever built for the Royal Navy, HMS Queen Elizabeth. | :18:18. | :18:19.
The mammoth aircraft carrier, which stretches the length | :18:20. | :18:21.
of the Houses of Parliament, has already attracted its fair share | :18:22. | :18:24.
of criticism, over-budget, behind schedule and with no aircraft. | :18:25. | :18:27.
And as Caroline Wyatt reports, the ship has also taken on new symbolic | :18:28. | :18:30.
importance ahead of this year's referendum on Scottish independence. | :18:31. | :18:32.
HMS Queen Elizabeth, birthed alongside the ship she will replace. | :18:33. | :18:38.
This new carrier is a potent symbol of a kingdom still united and still | :18:39. | :18:42.
keen to remain a global force. Those who worked on her covered to | :18:43. | :18:48.
celebrate the vessel that has kept the shipyards alive. Employing | :18:49. | :18:56.
10,000 people across the UK. Then, time for the Queen to christen her | :18:57. | :19:00.
namesake with a distinctly Scottish flavour, a single malt whiskey, | :19:01. | :19:03.
rather than the traditional champagne. I name this ship Queen | :19:04. | :19:10.
Elizabeth. May God bless her and all who sail in her. | :19:11. | :19:26.
The carrier's journey so far has not always run smooth. The pieces came | :19:27. | :19:33.
together from shipyards across the land. She may be a giant but so is | :19:34. | :19:38.
the cost. The budget for both ships doubling to over ?6 billion. And the | :19:39. | :19:44.
Jets not ready yet. Critics say she is too big, too ambitious, a charge | :19:45. | :19:50.
that the Navy rejects. When you are a big nation you do big things and | :19:51. | :19:53.
this is one of those journeys. I feel strongly that over the next 50 | :19:54. | :19:57.
years we will look back on this early controversy, these early | :19:58. | :20:02.
questions and we will say, why were we so shy? Politically today, the | :20:03. | :20:07.
ship was a potent weapon for the UK Government, fighting to keep | :20:08. | :20:11.
Scotland in the union. This event is a reminder of just how many jobs | :20:12. | :20:16.
could depend on the result. It is a proud day for Scotland and for the | :20:17. | :20:20.
United Kingdom. This is the biggest ship the Royal Navy has ever had | :20:21. | :20:24.
delivered. And it is a long-term investment in Britain's security. | :20:25. | :20:30.
Scotland's First Minister returned fire, insisting shipbuilding will | :20:31. | :20:35.
continue here, come what may. What keeps it safe for the future is not | :20:36. | :20:39.
the willpower of David Cameron but this magnificent deepwater facility | :20:40. | :20:44.
and the skills of the workforce. The emphasis has been on the pride and | :20:45. | :20:48.
prowess of those creating this future flagship, sectoral waves for | :20:49. | :20:53.
decades to come. But uncertainty remains over the other carrier, the | :20:54. | :20:57.
Prince of Wales, and whether the next government can afford to run | :20:58. | :21:03.
two such giants of the ocean. Today, the Red Arrows flew above the ship | :21:04. | :21:07.
that, for now at least, embodies the kingdom she has been built to | :21:08. | :21:12.
defend, albeit at greater cost than anyone had planned. Caroline Wyatt, | :21:13. | :21:13.
BBC News. Wimbledon, and the old guard have | :21:14. | :21:23.
seen off the young pretenders to reach Sunday's men's final. | :21:24. | :21:26.
Top seed Novak Djokovic will face seven times champion Roger Federer, | :21:27. | :21:28.
who won with relative ease against Canadian Milos Raonic | :21:29. | :21:30.
in straight sets. It was more of a tussle | :21:31. | :21:33.
for last year's finalist Djokovic who saw off Bulgarian newcomer | :21:34. | :21:35.
Grigor Dimitrov in four sets. Both players struggled with their | :21:36. | :21:39.
footwork on a dry Centre Court, with the world number two eventually | :21:40. | :21:41.
winning to reach his third Wimbledon final in four years. | :21:42. | :21:46.
To Brazil and the World Cup, where Germany have become the first team | :21:47. | :21:50.
to book their place in the semi-finals, with a 1-0 victory | :21:51. | :21:52.
against France. It's the fourth time in a row that the Germans have made | :21:53. | :21:55.
It's the fourth time in a row that the Germans have made | :21:56. | :21:59.
playing now. Dan Roan has been watching the action. | :22:00. | :22:01.
Colombia, who are playing now. Dan Roan has been watching | :22:02. | :22:02.
the action. It is the most confident of | :22:03. | :22:12.
footballing countries but today this was a nervous nation. When Brazil | :22:13. | :22:17.
play, standing room only. In Rio, tens of thousands not lucky enough | :22:18. | :22:21.
to be at the match gathered on Copacabana to gain advantage point, | :22:22. | :22:24.
but they knew their team and yet to play like the champions many expect | :22:25. | :22:30.
them to become. It is so important for us to win this. If we lose, it | :22:31. | :22:36.
is like losing in our home. It is not good if we lose. What happens if | :22:37. | :22:43.
you lose? I don't know. Even thinking about it is too much. Kick | :22:44. | :22:50.
off in this World Cup quarterfinal against Colombia is just minutes | :22:51. | :22:54.
away. The excitement here is palpable. It is obvious just how | :22:55. | :23:00.
much this means to so many. Not least the select few who now had to | :23:01. | :23:05.
deliver. With the pressure ratcheted up once again, some in the build-up | :23:06. | :23:10.
had questioned Brazil's mental strength. Within seven minutes, they | :23:11. | :23:15.
provided the perfect riposte. The capped and calm the nerves and gave | :23:16. | :23:20.
the hosts the lead that they craved. Pandemonium back on Copacabana and | :23:21. | :23:26.
everywhere else. Colombia, however have arguably been the team of the | :23:27. | :23:30.
tournament so far and here was why. A warning shot. But this was a | :23:31. | :23:35.
Brazil that has rarely been seen this summer. Hulk was denied not | :23:36. | :23:41.
once but twice, as their opponents struggled to stem the tide. In | :23:42. | :23:48.
Rodriguez, Colombia have the World Cup's leading goal-scorer but he and | :23:49. | :23:52.
his team are being kept at bay. Brazil have a deserved lead at | :23:53. | :23:58.
half-time. I can tell you that the 50,000 Brazil fans below me on | :23:59. | :24:02.
Copacabana beach and 200 million others around the country remain | :24:03. | :24:05.
very happy indeed because their team is still 1-0 ahead. We are 20 | :24:06. | :24:12.
minutes into the second half and the hosts remain on course for a | :24:13. | :24:18.
semifinal match on Tuesday against Germany. They now know their | :24:19. | :24:22.
opponents. We can show you the action when they beat France here in | :24:23. | :24:28.
Rio at the Maricana Stadium. The German central defender Mats Hummels | :24:29. | :24:34.
scored a header early on, making it one - zero to Germany. The French | :24:35. | :24:37.
had no reply and it stayed like that in quite a disappointing game. At | :24:38. | :24:44.
this stage, it looks like Germany will be playing Brazil. Germany | :24:45. | :24:52.
going for a fourth World Cup. Brazil are under such phenomenal pressure. | :24:53. | :24:55.
As far as they are concerned, so far, so good. | :24:56. | :25:00.
the action. Now they'll be up hill and | :25:01. | :25:03.
down dale for two days when the Tour de France arrives in Yorkshire | :25:04. | :25:06.
for the first time this weekend. Nearly 200 | :25:07. | :25:08.
of the world's best cyclists will face more than 200 miles of the most | :25:09. | :25:11.
beautiful and undulating countryside the county has to offer. | :25:12. | :25:13.
Danny Savage reports from Harewood near Leeds where | :25:14. | :25:14.
the race will begin tomorrow. Yorkshire has been asked to go | :25:15. | :25:25.
yellow for the Tour de France, and the people have responded. Setting | :25:26. | :25:28.
out old bikes in the right colour all along the route. Some have gone | :25:29. | :25:33.
a step further, painting whole buildings in King of the Mountains | :25:34. | :25:37.
colours. And yes, some farmers have decorated their sheep. The man who | :25:38. | :25:43.
brought the tour here says this is a huge opportunity for the region. | :25:44. | :25:49.
This is massive for Yorkshire. There are millions of people in the world | :25:50. | :25:52.
who cannot point to Yorkshire on a map. This will go in 190 countries | :25:53. | :25:57.
around the world on television so after this weekend everybody will | :25:58. | :26:02.
know where Yorkshire is. The organisers were given an aerial tour | :26:03. | :26:07.
which convinced them to come north. On the ground, accountants estimate | :26:08. | :26:10.
?100 million of extra business is coming here as a result of the Tour | :26:11. | :26:15.
de France, which is reflected along the route. We have been so much | :26:16. | :26:20.
busier than usual. Even on wet days, when it can be quiet, we have seen | :26:21. | :26:26.
so many cyclists. Maybe too many men in Lycra, but there you go. But more | :26:27. | :26:33.
men in Lycra are on the way. This is the current champion, practising on | :26:34. | :26:37.
the route. It is out of this world, the way that every town on the | :26:38. | :26:41.
route, every village has embraced the Tour de France. You see bikes | :26:42. | :26:47.
everywhere, polka dots everywhere, yellow jerseys everywhere. It is | :26:48. | :26:52.
really special. The riders will even be marshalled along by French | :26:53. | :26:55.
police, happy to pose for friendly photos today. And do not | :26:56. | :26:59.
underestimate the logistics of the tour. All of these police will be | :27:00. | :27:05.
escorting the pellet on throughout their days in Yorkshire. This is a | :27:06. | :27:10.
huge exercise in keeping the Tour de France going, and keeping it safe. | :27:11. | :27:15.
But how much of a challenge will it be? Well, -- will the climbs of the | :27:16. | :27:21.
Pennines be just speed pumps to the professionals? It has lots of steep | :27:22. | :27:26.
inclines. It is going to be very, very tough. For the best view, many | :27:27. | :27:33.
people are tonight camping on the route, in true Yorkshire weather. | :27:34. | :27:37.
Nice to be in Yorkshire, in the rain. We are getting the tent up so | :27:38. | :27:42.
we are going to do it. Some riders have expressed concerns about the | :27:43. | :27:45.
narrow roads and stone walls. And let's hope these don't get in the | :27:46. | :27:51.
way either. Danny Savage, BBC News, Yorkshire. | :27:52. | :27:52.
the race will begin tomorrow. That's all from us. | :27:53. | :27:56.
Now on BBC One, it's time for the news where | :27:57. | :27:57. |
