The Government has been accused of watering down its long-awaited

strategy to tackle childhood obesity in England.

Campaigners are angry that the action plan

that will be published tomorrow does not contain curbs on junk food

advertising or restrictions on cut-price supermarket promotions.

Instead, the onus is on more physical activity in schools

and a scheme for the food industry to cut sugar content in food

and drink enjoyed by children by 20% over the next four years.

And a tax on drinks with added sugar will be confirmed.

The Government's strategy aims to further boost physical

Healthy food for school meals is another part of the plan here

in the London borough of Haringey, but there's a recognition there's

only so much they can do and there's a much bigger problem to be dealt

We're surrounded in this area by a whole host of cheap, you know,

99p chicken and chips meal deals and if you're on a lower income,

you know, you'll be drawn to those deals, or supermarkets that

are offering perhaps lower quality food at a price that's affordable.

The new Government plan for England is trying to tackle that,

focusing on cutting added sugar content of products in shops.

Making healthy choices isn't always easy, as this mum,

A lot of the stuff that are on offer are usually

the unhealthy stuff, the cakes, the biscuits, the crisps.

The things that are healthy, like the vegetables, the fruits,

they're the things that are never like buy one, get one free.

The Government's new childhood obesity plan tomorrow is expected

to include action on the reformulation of products to contain

20% less sugar over the next four years, and moves to promote

there will be no action on low price supermarket deals

on unhealthy food and promotions during family TV shows.

Work on the obesity strategy has been going on for months

David Cameron had been set to unveil it.

Now, Theresa May has taken her own view on what's

a reasonable balance between voluntary action

Based on what they've heard, public health campaigners say

the strategy has left out important measures, so it's

I think this is a major crisis that we face in children's obesity,

and a major crisis for the public health in the UK in general.

So we are very disappointed if these measures are not taken.

Policy makers can only hope the measures do something to reduce

what is seen as a major threat to the nation's health.

There are some concrete measures - why are campaigners angry?

One senior health source put it to me, if you had said a year ago, the

Government would be introducing a sugar tax and cutting sugar content

on a whole range of food and drink, you might have thought it was a

significant. That is the way the Government will present it tomorrow.

But attention has focused on what is NOT in it. Public Health England

came up with proposals last autumn which included curbs on and on

supermum supermarket promotions - and they are not in the plan,

leading to suggestions that the whole thing has been deluded. People

have been highlighting the cost to the NHS, more than ?5 billion a year

in England. It is being published in August, during the Parliamentary

recess, during the Olympics. The Prime Minister, the Health Secretary

and the Chancellor are all away. People are asking, does this raise

questions about the Government's commitment to this agenda?

British success long into the future.

A senior Olympic official has been arrested by police investigating

Patrick Hickey was held in a dawn raid at his hotel in Rio,

on suspicion of being involved in an alleged scheme to sell tickets

slaughtered like an animal. She was happy with her partner,

Ian Johnston, but he was sending explicit messages to his

ex-girlfriend, Williams, though he had no idea

what she was planning. If people feel that in some

way I've let them down, that I am responsible by texting,

I'm profoundly sorry for that, Williams and her friend,

Katrina Walsh, left a trail of CCTV evidence, though

they thought they were planning They even bought the murder

weapon, a knife, at Tescos Walsh recorded it all

in her diaries, delighting She wrote, "Sarah came round,
