A Red Arrows plane has crashed during an air display in Dorset.

Eyewitnesses report seeing it hit the ground near Bournemouth Airport.

The MoD starts an investigation. There is no official word on the

condition of the pilot. Under fire during the riots - new

CCTV footage shows how police were targeted by youths armed with

handguns. And victory for Liverpool, with a

2-0 win against Arsenal at the Good afternoon. A Red Arrow plane

taking part in a display in Dorset has crashed near Bournemouth

International Airport. Eyewitnesses described seeing the plane hit the

ground near a river, and members of the public jumping into the water

to try to reach the cockpit. There's no official word on the

condition of the pilot. Earlier this afternoon, this was

the team preparing to begin the display. The BBC was filming the

Red Arrows for a documentary. Not long after, as the pilots were

heading back to land, ground staff realised something had gone wrong.

This amateur footage sent in by a viewer shows one of the hawks

descending towards the ground. It then disappears from view behind

the building. It crashed on farmland. From a distance, large

pieces of the wreckage can clearly be seen. It came down about 100

metres from us. Most of the plane was on the other side of the

riverbank. On our side, there was loads of debris spreading back

across the field. In queues guests at Bournemouth Airport were

counting the planes back in. watch them do the fly past. Then we

waited around here to see them come in. But we just saw eight comeback,

rather than nine. We saw a bit of smoke. The emergency services have

cordoned off roads around the area as they work at the scene. The Red

Arrows have flown for 46 years, completing more than 4000 displays

in 53 countries. Many of the pilots and support staff have recently

returned from duties in Afghanistan. The Ministry of Defence says it has

launched an investigation. And Alison Moss is at the scene for

us now. What more can you tell us? As that investigation has been

launched, eyewitnesses are able to give us a better picture of what

they have happened. At the airport, the Arrows were coming in at the

end of their display over Bournemouth seafront. They split

into a manoeuvre, but only eight returned. Here on the ground, close

to the crash site, witnesses reported hearing a loud crack, not

an explosion of. They saw the wreckage go nose first into the

water, with just its tail visible. We have heard that there is a

police investigation and an MoD investigation now under way. We

have no news about the conditions of the pilot. The emergency

services are still working on the scene.

Opposition forces in Libya have been tightening their grip on

territory taken from troops loyal to Colonel Gaddafi. They're calling

on the people of Tripoli to be ready for their arrival, and they

say a former prime minister has fled the capital. Rebel forces now

control much of the east of the country, with strongholds in

Benghazi and towns along the coast road. Today they claimed to have

taken Brega. Further west, they're in Misrata and Zlitan, while

Colonel Gaddafi's forces are centred on the capital, Tripoli,

and in Sirte. The rebels have also been fighting in the Nafusa

mountains to the south and in the town of Zawiyah. From there, Rupert

Wingfield-Hayes sent this report. This morning, the rebels took us to

see their latest prize. They have already dubbed this play smarters'

Square, but it is a grim victory. The debris and destroyed buildings

tell their own story of what happened here. We drive on East two

N T streets towards the new frontline. Then suddenly, we find

it. You can hear the incoming rifle fire, the remnants of Gaddafi's

forces are not far ahead. So we are now right on the eastern edge of so

we have. The rebels have pushed right through the east of the city

this morning. We are now on the outer edges of the city. We have

been told that Gaddafi's forces are 500 metres down the road, still

clinging on. They are trying to drive them out of the city. Ahead,

the rebels are coming under heavy sniper fire. They bring up a tank

to shelve the building the snipers are thought to be in. On top of the

tank, they celebrate what they believe is a direct hit. Are you

going to fight all the way to Tripoli? I hope so, if I do not die.

In a side street, rebel fighters are resting. Gaddafi's green flag

still flies over the building they have taken. Gaddafi's soldiers were

here in Zawiya. They are now going back. The rebels are going towards

Tripoli. I mid-afternoon, fighting still rages on the edge of the city.

The rebels know they now have Gaddafi's forces on the run, but

the cost in destruction and lives has been heavy.

Police in Birmingham have released CCTV footage of shots being fired

at their officers and the force helicopter during the riots earlier

this month. They've described the film as "disturbing" and say they

are treating the incident as attempted murder.

Mast and hooded, a figure steps forward with a gun. He aims and

camera's range. Above in the force helicopter, officers zoom in to

find that they are also in someone's sides. This was last

Tuesday night in Aston. Today, police in Birmingham appealed for

help to find the man they say tried to murder their officers. I look at

that footage, and think that the only motive could have been to

maximise the harm that they could cause to police officers and

potentially other members of the public. The mob began with bricks

hurled at a police car. Then it turned on a pub. As officers came

under fire outside, inside, the owners were putting out their

petrol bomb bar. I am really scared, you know. I am really scared. We

live upstairs. Two men have been charged with violent disorder.

Police say they are hunting the rest. With 11 shots fired from at

least four different handguns, the chief constable is in no doubt that

his officers with their lives protecting this community. He now

wants people to come forward to help them. This week, 20,000 people

attended the funerals of three young men who died in Winson Green

following the trouble in Birmingham. Detectives say these pictures show

how close they came to a second murder inquiry on the same night.

In today's Premier League matches, there were wins for Aston Villa,

Queens Park Rangers and Newcastle. Arsenal put their unsettled

midfielder Samir Nasri in the side to face Liverpool at the Emirates,

but they lost 2-0.l Cricket, and England's progress in the fourth

and final Test against India was He things you thought you would

never see this season, Samir Nasri in an Arsenal shirt again.

Manchester City could be wavy the chequebook somewhere else, of

course. More likely, Arsenal were just desperate. Nasri was just

about the best available player they had. Martyn Kelly hit the post

for Liverpool in the second half. Robin Van Persie now in possession
