Good afternoon. The Health Secretary, has ordered

an urgent review of the safety of breast implants which have been

made by the French company PIP. Andrew Lansley said he is unhappy

and concerned about the quality of the data provided by some cosmetic

surgeons. The review is to report next week, he insisted that there

is no evidence to justify the removal of the implants. Our

Medical Correspondent Fergus Walsh reports.

PIP implants do not pose a breast cancer risk, but authorities in

Paris recommended that women have them removed as they have a high

rupture rate and the silicone could cause inflammation. The PIP

implants were banned as they contain a non-medical grade of

silicone. 40,000 British women have the implants. 95% of the operations

were done in the private sector. The medical watchdog here says that

the rupture rates were no higher than with other implants, but the

Health Secretary has received new evidence from a large private

provider. I'm unhappy with the fact that a

private provider previously had reported data and now says that

they have data that was not disclosed to the regulator. That is

something that makes me cross, something that I want to be sure

that the expert group and others get to the bottom of what this data

is and what it means. They told us about it yesterday.

The Health Secretary has asked an expert group to review the safety

data from here and overseas to report next week. He stressed that

the Government's position is unchanged, that there is no need

for the route yeen removal of implants.

A soldier from the Yorkshire Regiment has been killed by a

member who now helps young people. Overall, nearly 1,000 people

received awards. He's been entertaining audiences

is also appointed CBE. In sport, US Open winner, Rory

McIlroy becomes an MBE. Winner of the British Open, Darren

Clarke becomes an OBE. At this time of the year, it is

sinking in what I managed it achieve, but this is certainly a

massive honour for me. I am privileged to be awarded the honour.

And with retired umpire, Harold Dennis Bird, also made an OBE for

services to cricket and charity. It kaifpl as quite a surprise, but

I feel very humble, but I am also delighted and honoured to get this
