Good afternoon. Staff are preparing to deep-clean a

neonatal unit in Belfast where throw babies have died from a

bacterial infection. Efforts are continuing to identify the source

of the pseudomonas outbreak at the Royal Victoria Hospital. A fourth

child is being treated for the infection. We have this report.

The results of tests carried out on all of the babies in the unit at

the time of the outbreak have come back. A further four newborns were

found to have been affected by the bug. Two have recovered, one is

receiving treatment, but another died of an unrelated cause.

Pseudomonas is a bacteria that can be carried on the skin and spread

by touch it is most dangerous to those already ill, especially

infants and those with lung problems as it causes severe

breathing difficulties. The source of the jub is yet to be identified.

The hospitals here in this complex in Belfast makes up effectively,

the centre of healthcare in Northern Ireland. The Royal Jubilee

Maternity Hospital has a strong reputation. Healthcare

professionals from outside of the Belfast Trust have expressed

confidence that everything that can be done is being done.

The, obviously, trying to track the source of the organism. They are

doing a deep-clean. They are obviously monitoring all of the

babies who could possibly have been infected thoroughly indeed. Clearly

one baby is being treated for infection. It is hard to say

anything else that they could do. Consultants have not ruled out

further testing. Hospitals across the UK are well versed in carrying

out deep cleans where bacterial outbreaks occur, a similar protest

is under way at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

Lawyers for some of the survivors of the Italian cruise liner, the

Costa Concordia claim that passengers should be given �100,000

each in compensation. This morning a search and rescue team has

boarded the ship. At least 11 people are known to have died in

the accident, 24 are unaccounted for. Officials say that they will

not stop looking until the whole ship has been searched. We are live

at the scene now with Luisa Baldini. What is the latest on the search

operation? There has been a lot of activity. It started at dawn. We

saw scuba divers getting into their wet suits. The first team went to

the wreck at David Beckham, the main aim to gain access to the

fifth deck on the submerged side of the ship. This do that they carried

out explosions to make holes inside of the vessel. It was then up to a

separate group of divers to get in and start the search. I asked a

colleague of theirs, if up until now on any of the dives they have

found an air pocket, but the answer was that there were no air pockets,

just water. Have they given an indication as to how long the

search operation will continue? There is a news conference being

held at the moment. A type of briefing. We are hoping to hear

more, but this morning, certainly, the coastguards told me that they

will not stop until they are confident that every part of the

shy has been everyone ised, but they keep stopping and starting

because of fears that the ship is moving, so it is taking a very long

time. Until they have completed the search phase, the salvage teams

can't start pumping out the 2,000 tonnes of oil. While the oil

remains on board, there are concerns for the environment,

should there be a leak. To that end, an Italian Naval ship has been

deployed here that specialises in oil spills. It is moored close to

the wreck of the Costa Concordia. I was taken on board this morning,

but the commander said that they are just waiting, they are here as

a precaution. Thank you very much.

The widow of a British hostage whose body has been handed over to

British officials in Baghdad have said that the family can now grieve

for him properly. Alan McMenemy was one of four security guards taken

hostage along with an IT consultant Iraq in 2007. The bodies of the

three other guards were handed over in 2009. The consultants Moore, was

later released alive. The Foreign Office says it is

helping a woman and her daughter from Birmingham after her husband

was shot dead in front of them in Pakistan.

The man died after he and his wife were attacked by masked gunmen

during a family visit to Rawalpindi earlier in the month.

Eye witnesses in Nigeria have told the BBC they have counted more than

20 bodies after a series of blasts in the city of Kano.

The militant Islamist group, Boko Haram said that it carried out the

attack. We have this report from the capital, Abuja.

Fires and chaos, the immediate after math of the attacks. This was

one of several police stations targeted in Kano. The assault by

the armed militants spread panic across this huge northern Nigerian

city. The sounds of explosions, four of

them before I came out. Then I saw a dead body on my way out. A young

man was lying dead. I proceeded for then to the emigration office, that

was where the first bomb-blast started in front of the gate.

This was perhaps the most brazen attack yet by Boko Haram, an shrath

International Cricket Council group that's emerged a -- an Islamist

group that has emerged, a group responsible for a wave of attacks

across northern Nigeria. On Christmas Day, the Boko Haram

group attacked churches, the group, its name means forbidden, warned

all Christians to leave the north. The President here has called the

crisis worse than a Civil War. Today, the city of Kano is under

strict curfew, but the attacks, designed as a show of force, have

exposed the limitations of Nigeria's security services.
