Good afternoon. $$NEWLINEWHITE Israeli airstrikes have destroyed

the headquarters of Hamas in Gaza. Hamas called the strikes "barbaric",

and said neighbouring houses had been damaged. Since midnight the

Israeli military says it's attacked 180 targets in Gaza. It also said

that 55 rockets had been fired into Israel overnight. From Gaza, Jon

Donnison sent this report. For a fourth day, Gaza has taken another

pounding. With more than 200 Israeli airstrikes, so far today.

Once again, people here were waking up to find their world is upturned.

Just a few signs of normality are remaining.

This was the house of a member of Hamas's security forces. It was hit

this morning. This neighbourhood is called Jabalya. It is one of the

most densely populated areas in the entire world. Most than half of

Gaza's pap lated areas are children. Many of those hit are youngsters.

The children's school bags are on the floor. Her three girls and two

boys were all injured and taken to the hospital. She says that they

were innocent civilians. Elsewhere, Israeli has targeted the

headquarters of the Hamas Prime Minister. The building had been

evacuated. The Hamas leaders are in hiding. In Israel, people are on

the receiving end of Hamas rockets, but today, the number being fired

has dropped. Israel needs to decide what winning

means and how far its operation will go.

With this operation, until we bring some peace and quiet and normality

to 3 million Israelis, currently under immediate rocket danger.

Israel has been moving its forces towards the border.

For the rockets to stop it requires the removal rather than a weakening

of Hamas. A full ground operation could be needed, but if Israel gets

rid of Hamas, then what comes next? Our Middle East correspondent

Richard gap pin is in Jerusalem for us. Richard, what do the latest

attacks tell us about Israel's main aim here? Well, you know, speaking

to the Israeli officials they say that the goal has been the same

thing. They want to cripple Hamas and groups in the Gaza Strip, their

capability of attacking Israel. That means the rocket attacks. They

say even though it seems that the range of targets are expanding with

the attacks on the political buildings, they are saying that the

goals are the same. They want to stop the rocket attacks. They don't

make distinctions between the Hamas political wing or the military wing.

They want to end this knowing that there will be quiet in southern

Israel. So no more rockets to be fired towards Israeli towns. An

official described it as creating a new reality in the area, but still,

you know, it is very difficult. How will they decide that they have

managed to achieve that? I think one way that they are saying is

making Hamas realise that the price of firing rockets is simply too

high, not least in terms of public opinion. The Palestinians in Gaza,

how they are viewing Hamas. Thank you.

47 children have died in Egypt when the school bus collided with a
