Israel hits more than 200 targets in Gaza, including the Hamas

government headquarters. They say there are still hundreds

of targets they want to strike. Hamas calls the bombing "barbaric."

Israel continued bombarding Gaza and Palestinian fighters sent more

than 100 rockets in the opposite direction today. Hamas called

Israel's bombing of more than 200 sites, including its government

headquarters "barbaric." Tonight the Arab League gave its backing to

Egyptian efforts to secure a truce. In a moment the view from Israel,

but first Wyre Davies sent this report from Gaza.

This afternoon, the Israel military released this video of an air

strike on a large building in the heart of Gaza city. One of more

than 200 attacks across the Palestinian territory. And this was

the same building today. The now flattened headquarters of the Hamas

Prime Minister in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh. He was not in the building

because like other Hamas leaders, he is in hiding, after receiving

direct flets from Israel. After hitting 850 targets over four days,

Israel is preparing for phase 2. -- direct threats.

If this operation was all about protecting Israeli civilians, is

that phase almost finished? And is Israel now determined to undermine

Hamas as a political organisation as well?

But targeting Hamas officials puts civilians at risk. Another bombed

site today in Jabalia, the most crowded part of the Gaza Strip.

Here stood the home of a member of the Hamas security forces.

Sana lives next door. Her possessioned now scattered across

her broken home. Her three girls and two boys were injured in the

bombing. She says they had done nothing

wrong and asks what have they ever done to aurt Israel?

-- to hurt. Now, as in previous conflicts,

Israel is making the most of its air superiority. Only then would it

contemplate a ground assault. There is renewed talk of a ceasefire

tonight. But if that fails, and if Israel invades, with a wider

assault on Hamas, there maybe many more deaths here.

Well, hundreds of rockets have been fired into Israel since Wednesday.

One was shot down by Israel's Iron Dome defence system. The Israeli

military have been massing tanks and other armoured vehicles at the

build-up close to Gaza points to a looming ground operation. Israel

has declared some roads here a closed military zone. Almost

immediately we were told to move on. More and more Israeli troops and

armoured vehicles are coming here it the Israeli side of the Gaza

up and many of them ordered down here, the Israeli government says

up to 75,000 of them will be drafted altogether. The feeling on

the ground is that an Israeli incursion into gz is getting ever-

population. Are they planning on going in on the ground?

family flat in Ashdod, 40 kilometres from Gaza, moments after

a rocket came clashing through their bedroom window. The young

family had been eating lunch when they heard sirens and rushed to

their building's bunker just in time. In a house nearby, this man

is so scared for his children's safety, he won't let them sleep or

play outside their bomb shelter. It's very scary. We can't go to

school and, really, we can't go out to the garden. These are anxious

times for families on both sides. In Egypt, 50 children have died

after their school bus collided with a train on a level crossing.

The children, who were aged between four and six years' old were

travelling near the city near Manfalut 180 miles south of kieree.

Israel's Transport Minister has resigned following the accident.

Comet is planning to close over 40 of its stores by the end of the

month unless a buyer can be fund. Administrators say redundancies

will be inevitable but they will try to redeploy staff to the

remaining outlets that will continue trading as usual.

The Government is to give Parliament another chance to decide

whether prisoners should be gich given the vote this Thursday. It

will -- given the vote. It'll come a day before Britain has

to comply to a European ruling. A vaccine to protect children

against one of the most common and ddly forms of meningitis is set to

be licensed for use in the UK -- deadly forms.

More than 1,800 people contract meningitis B UK every year with one

in ten dying. The charity Meningitis UK describes

this as a landmark ruling. Meningitis B is the most deadly

strain of the disease. But the only form of defence so far has been

advice on early detection. Now, for the first time, a vaccine has been

recommended for approval. Julie Backhouse's twins, Lily and

Lucas both contracted meningitis B. Her son recovered by lily

tragically died. She was just 23 months old. The day before she

seemed perfectly happy and the family said they had no early

warning signs. It was an extremely quick, from the initial symptoms of

waking her up in the morning to losing her at night. So it's

absolute fear. For me, that other parents would have to go through

what we went through that day. UK is a hotspot for meningitis.

Meningitis B accounts for 55% of all cases. It affects an average of

1,870 a year and results in the death of around one in ten. It's

very exciting news. This has been a very difficult type of meningitis

to develop a vaccine against because there are men subgroups

within the meningitis B. It's been worked on for many years and it is

very good news that we have finally got a vaccine. Meningitis B is a

complex disease. This vaccine offers protection against three-

quarters of the known strains. The Department of health is broadly

welcoming its development and a group of independent experts is now

considering the cost effectiveness of the vaccine.

It's something that scientists have been trying to crack for decades.

After licencing and Government approval, immunisation could be

available as early as next year. Sport now. For a full round-up here

England's cricketers are facial an uphill task to avoid defeat in the

first Test in India. They made a much better start to

-- Temperatures are falling nicely under clear skies. Many places

could look like this in the morning. A clear start with sunshine.

At the moment cloud in the south of England and East Anglia which will

take all night to clear. Clearer skies elsewhere, showers continuing,

mainly for western Scotland. Snow had the hills and the risk of icy

patches. These are the numbers in towns and cities. In rural areas it

will be much colder. Minus two, maybe even minus three. So a

widespread frost on the way for Sunday morning. A lovely day to

come, though. Except maybe with the showers we have in the north-west

of Scotland and then later the cloud will increase across some

western areas. It's just thin, high cloud coming into Wales and the

south-west. We'll lose the sunshine eventually. But for most of the day

a lovely day threw the Midlands. Certainly a blue sky day across

eastern England. One or two early showers coming in off the Irish Sea,

otherwise fine. It'll cloud over in Northern Ireland in the afternoon.

Rain not far away by the end of the day. Still a few showers running

into the north-west of Scotland. The rest of Scotland dry but rather

chilly. Through tomorrow evening and tomorrow night it changes.
