Good afternoon. Police looking for the missing three-year-old Mikaeel

Kular have found a body. It's understood his mother has been

detained for questioning. The boy was reported missing from his home

in Edinburgh on Thursday. A bungalow in Kirkcaldy in Fife is being

searched. Live to our correspondent Robert Hall, who's there now.

Robert. Adam, the dramatic shift in this

investigation came soon after midnight, hundreds of people have

been asked to rejoin the search this morning. They awoke to the sad news

that they would no longer be needed. The hunt for Mikaeel Kular had moved

from the streets of suburban Edinburgh to this rain-soaked wood

in the Fife. His face had become familiar to all of us, the smiling

three-year-old who had reportedly vanished from his bed. Almost 48

hours after that report was received, Assistant Chief, the

Malcolm Graham emerged from Edinburgh's police headquarters with

grim news. Good morning, everyone. The investigation into the

disappearance of Mikaeel Kular has been wide-ranging and fast-moving.

As a result of these inquiries, I can confirm that we have recovered

the body of a young boy in Fife. Shortly before midnight.

20 miles north of Edinburgh, a major crime scene investigation has begun

in and around a bungalow in the town of Kirkaldy. The area currently

sealed off includes the house and a woodland to the rear of the

property, popular with local walkers. Mikaeel's mother, Rosdeep

Kular, has been detained by police. The house is said to belong to a

relative of her mother. Police say she had told them that she put her

son to bed on Wednesday evening, when she went to check on him in the

morning, he was gone. Hundreds of local people rallied to help with

two days of searches, but there was no trace of Mikaeel. Some of those

who had been involved laid flowers in his memory. Forensic teams have

now arrived in Kirkaldy. There work year is likely to continue for many

hours yet. -- their work year. Under Scottish law, Rosdeep Kular

must be charged or released within a maximum of 24 hours, so we are

expecting a further update from police later this afternoon.

The former Conservative Party deputy chairman Lord McAlpine has died. He

was 71. His family said he passed away peacefully last night at his

home in Italy. Lord McAlpine, a close advisor to Margaret Thatcher,

was more recently wrongly implicated in a child-abuse scandal. Alex

Forsyth has this report. Lord McAlpine was at one time a very

powerful figure within the Conservative Party. He was deputy

chairman as well as treasurer in Margaret Thatcher's government. He

was considered among the closest and most loyal aides. Known as a jovial

and cultured man, outside of his political career, he was an author,

art collector, property developer and fundraiser. He spent the later

years of his life out of the public eye, running a bed and breakfast in

southern Italy. Most recently, Lord McAlpine was wrongly implicated in

child sex abuse allegations by the BBC Newsnight programme, for which

she received an apology and a substantial damages. Today, he was

described by the Prime Minister as a dedicated supporter of the

Conservative Party. David Cameron said his thoughts are with his

family. In other tributes, he was called a man of integrity who made a

huge contribution to public life. Lord McAlpine, who's died at the age

of 71. Two Britons are now known to be

among the 21 people killed in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan. One

of those who died was a Labour Party candidate in the forthcoming

European elections. The bomb exploded outside a busy restaurant

frequented by westerners in the capital city, Kabul. Mike Wooldridge

The scene outside the popular Lebanese restaurant after the

attack. It took place around 7:30 in the evening local time as the

restaurant was full of diners. First a suicide bomber detonated his

explosives outside the gate. Then two gunmen rushed in and started

shooting people inside. Among those killed was a Labour candidate for

the European Parliament, Del Singh. The party today paid tribute to his

work in various conflict zones. This is one of Kabul's deadliest

attacks. The UN lost four of its staff. We are very shocked, and we

are very sad, and it is a very heavy day for the UN in Afghanistan. The

The Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg says the party's former chief

executive Lord Rennard should be barred from the parliamentary party

harassed. An internal investigation found that while the claims could

not be proven beyond reasonable doubt, they were credible. The

report recommended that Lord Rennard apologise. He denies all

allegations. Parts of the UK are at risk of

flooding today with further heavy rain expected to fall. Major roads

in Surrey, West Sussex and Kent have already been closed. The Met Office

has issued yellow weather warnings, asking people to be aware, and the

Environment Agency has more than 40 flood warnings in place. The

heaviest downpours are expected in south-west England and south Wales.

Andy Murray has reached the fourth round of the Australian Open after

what he said was his best win since back surgery. The Wimbledon champion

defeated Spain's Feliciano Lopez in straight sets in Melbourne. Next up,

he will play the French qualifier Stephane Robert for a place in the
