Hello, good afternoon. Police in California have confirmed that a

British-born student carried out a killing spree at a university in

which six people died. Elliot Rodger stabbed his three male

housemates before shooting dead two women and a man in Santa Barbara. 13

people were injured. His father is a Hollywood film director. He was

later found dead in his car. In this chilling video posted

online, Elliot Rodger described the killing he had planned, revenge, he

said, for his failure with women. It all has to come to this. Tomorrow,

it is the day of retribution. The day in which I will have my revenge

against humanity. Against all of you. Hours later, he was dead,

crashing his car after a gun battle with Sheriff Deputy 's and

apparently shooting himself in the head. He drove to this deli, CCTV

capturing the panic as he started shooting. It was late in the

evening, but many saw what happened. I saw the car zoom past, he was not

shooting whilst I was on the balcony, but he hit a kid on the

bike, the guy flew off the bike, and he drove further down to the corner

of the street, where people were standing, because it is quite a big

thing, standing on the streets, for parties, and he started shooting

into the crowd. He was 22, the son of a British film-maker, Peter

Rodger, the assistant director of the hunger games. He had taken

Elliott to the Premier. The police had interviewed him after a previous

but he was not considered a threat. After stabbing three men, he shot

free women, two of them fatally, a male student was killed in the deli,

another injured by the drive-by shooting. He had guns and an edition

Thousands attended a vigil for those killed as another community in

Nigel Farage has shaken up the political landscape after gains in

the local elections will stop he is expecting even more success

tonight. While he celebrates, his opponents are struggling to deal

with the UKIP effect. It is a protest party, most of the people

voting for them are disillusioned voters of other parties who have

moved to UKIP to send us a message, and we have got one year to show

that we have got that message. The Liberal Democrat leader has never

been popular with some in his party for going into government with the

Tories. After the loss of hundreds of councillors, somewhat him to

stand down, that senior figures are putting up a robust defence. He is a

man of courage, integrity, decency, the best Prime Minister Britain has

not got. In the context of a general election, this will come through. Ed

Miliband's performance is under scrutiny, Labour has made progress,

or unfortunate photo opportunities have left some questioning whether

he is the man to lead them back to power. His allies have no doubt. The

idea of easy predictions is for the birds, what we know if the facts, we

are moving forward, Ed Miliband is in touch with people's concerns, and

we are putting forward those policies. UKIP seems to be thriving

because voters do not feel the established parties are on their

side, but there is little sign this will lead to radical changes in

policy. There will be a special European

election results programme presented by David Dimbleby, from 8pm on the

BBC News Channel, and from 11pm on BBC One.

Security has been stepped up at a Jewish -- at Jewish site across

Belgium following the fatal shootings of three people. A fourth

victim is in a critical condition. A man detained by police shortly after

the attack has been released without charge.

People continue to come here outside the museum to lay flowers and the

police are still trying to work out who the gunman is. Prosecutors say

whoever carried out this attack probably acted alone. They are going

to release CCTV footage later, and they are calling for the public to

help. Flowers for the dead. The gunman who

brazenly opened fire inside the Jewish and in this plush area of

central Brussels remains on the run. Security has been stepped up at

Jewish site across the country. It is hard to feel reassured, said this

community leader. The reality is an attack could happen anywhere at any

time. Three people died at the scene, two were from Israel, a

couple in their 50s on holiday. A French woman was also killed and a

Belgian man seriously injured. Investigators say they are working

on a number of leads but say they cannot get confirm it was an

anti-Semitic attack. The Jewish community in Belgium is 40,000

strong, its leaders have recently reported a rise in hate crimes. In

Israel, the Prime Minister spoke out. TRANSLATION: The act of murder

is the result of incessant incitement against the State of

Israel by elements in the middle is and Europe. But in Brussels,

forensic teams continue to search for clues. Officers say no one has

claimed responsible T. European leaders have been sending

their condolences, David Cameron has written to the Belgian Prime

Minister, condemning this attack. He wrote that Britain will work with

Belgium to confront bigotry across Europe.

There have been angry scenes in parts of Ukraine as voting gets

under way in the presidential election. In Donetsk, pro-Russian

separatists smashed ballot boxes. Staff at some stations are reported

to have been threatened. Pope Francis has described the

Israeli /Palestinian conflict is increasingly unacceptable and has

invited President from both sides to the Vatican to pray for peace. He

was speaking on the second day of his visit to the Middle East. On his

way to say Mass, he made an unscheduled stop at the high

concrete barrier Israel is building in and around the West Bank. What is

the reaction to his visit so far? Just to let you know, the Pope is

It was earlier, just before his final press, at the open-air Mass he

had in the square, he made this unexpected invitation to the

president. That got a warm welcome from the worshippers that were here.

Vatican officials came out, calling it a creative and courageous step by

the Pope. We have just heard from President Peres's office, welcoming

the offer. The Pope said he was coming here to the holy land for

purely religious reasons, and quickly we see he has got himself

involved in the political situation, the long-standing

conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. He delivered a message

when he was meeting the Palestinian president at his palace in

Bethlehem, talking about the need to intensify efforts for peace. This is

a month after talks between Israel and the Palestinians broke down

again. Now, he will make his way to Israel, then to Jerusalem, so we

will see what the message is as he continues on his visit.
