More evidence tonight pointing to a bomb as the cause of the Russian

:00:00.:00:07.

A week after the disaster, investigators say the plane broke up

:00:08.:00:13.

very suddenly after an unexplained sound on its flight recorder.

:00:14.:00:18.

A noise was heard in the last second of the CVR recording.

:00:19.:00:27.

More planes bring British tourists home from Egypt.

:00:28.:00:28.

But it could take ten days to bring them all back.

:00:29.:00:31.

We will have the latest on the investigation.

:00:32.:00:33.

David Cameron issues his strongest warning yet that he's

:00:34.:00:36.

prepared to back leaving the EU if there's no reform.

:00:37.:00:42.

The six-year-old boy shot dead in his father's car.

:00:43.:00:44.

Two US police officers are charged with his murder.

:00:45.:00:51.

And the new household essential, a promise of broadband

:00:52.:00:53.

Investigators in Egypt have said the Russian passenger plane

:00:54.:01:19.

which crashed last weekend suffered a sudden and catastrophic break-up.

:01:20.:01:22.

They've confirmed there was an unexplained noise

:01:23.:01:24.

on the plane's voice recorder, at the moment the disaster unfolded.

:01:25.:01:28.

French investigators have told the BBC they believe that to be

:01:29.:01:31.

Our correspondent Mark Lowen is in the Egyptian resort

:01:32.:01:36.

First from Egypt there was denial, then anger but today the hint of an

:01:37.:01:42.

acceptance that something untoward may have caused the crash of the

:01:43.:01:44.

This was the first time the authorities here gave detail of the

:01:45.:01:51.

Journalists were not allowed inside Sharm el-Sheikh airport today.

:01:52.:01:56.

This is a nervous country wary of a negative image but perhaps the

:01:57.:01:59.

A week on from flight 9268 they remembered.

:02:00.:02:17.

Russian soldiers laying tributes at the site of their nation's worse

:02:18.:02:20.

It's becoming clear something sinister caused the crash.

:02:21.:02:22.

Egyptian officials today said debris was scattered over 13 kilometres,

:02:23.:02:27.

The auto-pilot was engaged until the end of the black box

:02:28.:02:30.

recording and there was a sudden sound on the data recorder.

:02:31.:02:33.

A noise was heard in the last second of the CVR recording.

:02:34.:02:36.

A spectral analysis will be carried out by specialised labs in order to

:02:37.:02:39.

An American TV network says US officials have reported they picked

:02:40.:02:47.

up chatter between ISIS operatives boasting

:02:48.:02:48.

The Egyptian Government today hit out saying intelligence was

:02:49.:02:52.

We are the party which is mainly connected with

:02:53.:03:04.

the issue and we expected to have the information on a technical

:03:05.:03:07.

level, instead of it being released to the media in this public manner.

:03:08.:03:11.

But that's refuted by the British Ambassador here, insisting there's

:03:12.:03:13.

been constant co-operation and that Downing Street is reviewing

:03:14.:03:17.

The situation that's going on is very frustrating for everybody

:03:18.:03:25.

involved because it's an attack that's caused great human tragedy.

:03:26.:03:28.

I personally have been in close contact with

:03:29.:03:36.

the Egyptian Government around the clock at the highest level.

:03:37.:03:40.

We have made all the information available and we have explained to

:03:41.:03:43.

them the basis for our decision-making and I am sure every

:03:44.:03:45.

Meanwhile, the travel chaos continues.

:03:46.:03:48.

British planes are flying elsewhere in Egypt.

:03:49.:03:50.

The current assessment is that it's safe.

:03:51.:03:52.

The airport is struggling to cope with this logistical challenge

:03:53.:03:55.

but it could be overwhelmed as Russians too try to leave

:03:56.:03:59.

after Moscow's dramatic decision to suspend all flights to Egypt.

:04:00.:04:04.

79,000 Russians are thought to be in this country.

:04:05.:04:08.

The backlog of people trying to fly from here will last for days.

:04:09.:04:14.

And that's the worry for Rob and his family waiting for news

:04:15.:04:17.

of their flight to Luton, now delayed for three days.

:04:18.:04:19.

Regular calls to easyJet have given him no update,

:04:20.:04:21.

They're getting tired of living out of suitcases and simply want clarity

:04:22.:04:28.

We are out of money, we are out of clothes.

:04:29.:04:40.

With three little kids sort of getting now clued up

:04:41.:04:43.

on what's going on and they're getting a bit panicky, as well.

:04:44.:04:47.

So the frustration for passengers goes on but for Egypt, which

:04:48.:04:49.

If a bomber did infiltrate this resort bringing down a plane,

:04:50.:04:53.

the impact will be felt far beyond these shores.

:04:54.:04:57.

Mark Lowen, BBC News, Sharm el-Sheikh.

:04:58.:05:01.

The investigating team said it was too early to say for certain that

:05:02.:05:04.

But their initial findings will add to fears that

:05:05.:05:08.

Our diplomatic correspondent James Robbins reports.

:05:09.:05:20.

The Egyptian-led investigation in the desert is huge.

:05:21.:05:21.

There are no conclusions yet but what was disclosed today is telling.

:05:22.:05:30.

First, the spread of wreckage, scattered over a vast area of the

:05:31.:05:33.

Sinai desert about eight miles in length, that only happens when an

:05:34.:05:36.

Second, the flight data recorder shows auto-pilot was engaged

:05:37.:05:39.

until the recording stops, suggesting the flight crew had no

:05:40.:05:42.

warning of disaster or they would have taken back manual control.

:05:43.:05:44.

And, most telling of all, an unexplained noise was picked up

:05:45.:05:47.

by the cockpit voice recorder in the final second.

:05:48.:05:53.

All the data from the two recorders will have

:05:54.:05:56.

Although the Egyptians insist the transcript of conversations is

:05:57.:06:02.

not yet complete, experts say spectral analysis of that final

:06:03.:06:10.

second of unexplained noise, looking at the wave form, the signature of

:06:11.:06:13.

They know what an explosion sounds like.

:06:14.:06:16.

They know what a fuel tank blowing up sounds

:06:17.:06:28.

like and they know the sound of an aeroplane coming apart.

:06:29.:06:31.

From all the evidence, if a bomb is eventually confirmed,

:06:32.:06:33.

then the Russians were victims of an extremist outrage perhaps

:06:34.:06:36.

All sorts of hints, particularly in Washington,

:06:37.:06:38.

point to possible involvement of so-called Islamic State.

:06:39.:06:40.

Although Britain and the United States refuse to discuss their

:06:41.:06:43.

specific intelligence publicly, the fact that Russia has now

:06:44.:06:46.

suspended flights to all Egyptian destinations, an even more drastic

:06:47.:06:54.

response than Britain's, suggests the Kremlin fears their

:06:55.:06:56.

And if so-called Islamic State was behind it, that would be

:06:57.:07:00.

It would mark a major shift in tactics,

:07:01.:07:04.

The consequences would be felt far beyond Egypt and Russia

:07:05.:07:12.

and governments would face a new test - could they put aside

:07:13.:07:15.

some of their differences in the face of such a growing menace?

:07:16.:07:17.

The Prime Minister is to issue his strongest warning yet that

:07:18.:07:23.

if European Union leaders fail to meet his demands

:07:24.:07:25.

for a new relationship with the EU, he will consider leaving it.

:07:26.:07:40.

As he sets out the changes he wants in Britain's relationship with

:07:41.:07:44.

Europe. Our political correspondent is in Downing Street. A tougher tone

:07:45.:07:47.

but are we getting more details about what he wants? Yes, this will

:07:48.:07:52.

be the strongest warning yet from the Prime Minister to other EU

:07:53.:07:56.

leaders that February doesn't get what he wants, then he is prepared

:07:57.:07:59.

to consider life outside the European Union. He will say that if

:08:00.:08:04.

they turn a deaf ear to his demands, which he does not expect, then we

:08:05.:08:09.

will have to think again about whether the European Union is right

:08:10.:08:14.

for us. Now, that speech will coincide with the publication of

:08:15.:08:17.

this much anticipated letter that he is going to write to the President

:08:18.:08:23.

of the European Council Donald Tusk. Downing Street say that will set out

:08:24.:08:28.

the broad outline of his agenda, undoubtedly Eurosceptics will say we

:08:29.:08:32.

still want to see much more detail but we do already know that he wants

:08:33.:08:36.

an end to that commitment to ever closer union. He wants to restrict

:08:37.:08:42.

the benefits which EU migrants can claim and he wants more protection

:08:43.:08:46.

for the countries that are outside the eurozone. We are now about to

:08:47.:08:50.

see the start of those formal negotiations. David Cameron is

:08:51.:08:53.

making it clear that if he doesn't get what he wants, then he is

:08:54.:08:57.

prepared to walk away. But ultimately, it will be down to all

:08:58.:09:02.

of us in that referendum by the end of 2017. Thank you very much.

:09:03.:09:09.

The Work and Pensions Secretary, Iain Duncan Smith, is said to be

:09:10.:09:12.

resisting efforts by the Treasury to make the new Universal Credit

:09:13.:09:14.

The Chancellor, George Osborne, is seeking new savings after

:09:15.:09:17.

the House of Lords rejected his plans to cut working tax credits.

:09:18.:09:21.

A close ally of Mr Duncan Smith said protecting Universal Credit was

:09:22.:09:24.

Sierra Leone has been declared free from the Ebola virus by the World

:09:25.:09:30.

Health Organisation, after six weeks without a case of the disease.

:09:31.:09:32.

The WHO said the country would now enter a 90-day

:09:33.:09:35.

period of enhanced surveillance to detect any new cases.

:09:36.:09:37.

Nearly 4,000 people have died from Ebola in Sierra Leone.

:09:38.:09:39.

When Sierra Leone finally won the war against Ebola.

:09:40.:09:58.

Britain pledged hundreds of millions of pounds to the fight,

:09:59.:10:00.

But what's most important is that the work that we have

:10:01.:10:07.

What we don't want is a repeat performance and, therefore,

:10:08.:10:12.

we hope that what we can put in place will ensure a resilience.

:10:13.:10:21.

There's another legacy here, we are heading to Hill Station

:10:22.:10:23.

When I was here last year at the height of the outbreak Save the

:10:24.:10:30.

Children were training up community volunteers on how to stay safe.

:10:31.:10:34.

I have returned to meet community nurse Joyce.

:10:35.:10:37.

Last time, the avoid body contact rule was in full force.

:10:38.:10:39.

We started to have casualties, we have one room.

:10:40.:10:51.

15 of them die. Only this was the survivor.

:10:52.:11:00.

Ibrahim and another family were hit by the virus here but the community

:11:01.:11:03.

did manage to contain the outbreak to just those two households.

:11:04.:11:09.

One of Ibrahim's most prized possessions

:11:10.:11:11.

My younger brother, my younger sisters and my brothers,

:11:12.:11:31.

infected and they did die. Ibrahim tells me he can't get a job.

:11:32.:11:35.

So many Ebola survivors here face stigmatisation.

:11:36.:11:38.

Many also report health problems after they recover.

:11:39.:11:40.

This is the reality of what Ebola has left behind.

:11:41.:11:42.

And it's why celebrations today are bittersweet.

:11:43.:11:54.

Two police officers in the American state

:11:55.:11:56.

of Louisiana have been charged with murder, after a six-year-old boy was

:11:57.:11:58.

Jeremy Mardis was hit by five bullets and

:11:59.:12:03.

From Washington, Laura Bicker reports.

:12:04.:12:09.

Six-year-old Jeremy Mardis was strapped in his father's car.

:12:10.:12:12.

It's thought they were being chased by police.

:12:13.:12:13.

But soon after their car backed into an alley, shots were fired.

:12:14.:12:22.

Five hit Jeremy in the head and the chest.

:12:23.:12:25.

His father, Chris Few, was badly wounded.

:12:26.:12:29.

Let me tell you something, I am not going to talk about it,

:12:30.:12:37.

It is the most disturbing thing I have seen.

:12:38.:12:41.

That little boy was buckled in the front seat of that vehicle

:12:42.:12:44.

Late last night two police officers were arrested,

:12:45.:12:50.

individuals described as having tarnished the police badge.

:12:51.:12:52.

Officers Norris Greenhouse and Derrick Stafford are charged

:12:53.:12:57.

This is the latest high-profile police shooting in the United States

:12:58.:13:06.

and will add to growing criticism of perceived police brutality.

:13:07.:13:11.

The six-year-old with autism was described as a delightful child who

:13:12.:13:15.

Investigators have vowed to continue their inquiries

:13:16.:13:19.

The Government is promising to provide all homes and businesses

:13:20.:13:29.

in the UK with a fast internet connection by 2020.

:13:30.:13:31.

It says broadband should be regarded as a basic, universal service.

:13:32.:13:35.

Our business correspondent Rob Young has more.

:13:36.:13:38.

Now the Government's adding broadband to the list.

:13:39.:13:45.

But for many going online can be frustrating.

:13:46.:13:49.

In some rural areas downloading can take ages, some still use painfully

:13:50.:13:54.

About two million homes don't have access to fast internet.

:13:55.:14:02.

The minimum speed most homes need to watch streaming video, for example,

:14:03.:14:05.

The Government says everyone will be given the legal right to request

:14:06.:14:12.

that type of fast connection no matter where they live.

:14:13.:14:15.

This is for the most hard to reach premises and businesses that

:14:16.:14:20.

people who, as it were, are in the very last 5% in very rural areas

:14:21.:14:24.

and what this will do is give them a guarantee that over the next few

:14:25.:14:27.

years they'll be able to get the kind of broadband speeds that

:14:28.:14:31.

many people living in towns and cities have got used to.

:14:32.:14:33.

Critics say previous digital promises have come to little.

:14:34.:14:36.

Technology experts argue the Government's proposed speed

:14:37.:14:37.

In five years' time, many parts of the countryside will be surfing at

:14:38.:14:47.

The British Government have been something out of touch with reality

:14:48.:14:53.

Famously back in around 2010 they said that Britain

:14:54.:15:00.

should have the best superfast broadband in Europe by 2015.

:15:01.:15:02.

Clearly, we have not met that objective and it's hard to see

:15:03.:15:05.

whether or not this one is going to stand up to the test of time.

:15:06.:15:09.

The Government's already spending ?1.5 billion extending superfast

:15:10.:15:12.

internet to 95% of the UK connecting the rest won't be

:15:13.:15:18.

Andy Murray has reached the Paris Masters tennis final for the

:15:19.:15:28.

first time after a straight sets victory over Spain's David Ferrer.

:15:29.:15:31.

He wrapped up the match 6-4, 6-3 and will meet top seed

:15:32.:15:33.

and defending champion Novak Djokovic in tomorrow's final.

:15:34.:15:37.

Murray will finish the year second in the world

:15:38.:15:39.

And in Rugby League, New Zealand have levelled the Test series

:15:40.:15:48.

against England with a 9-2 victory at London's Olympic Stadium.

:15:49.:15:51.

Winger Shaun Kenny-Dowall scored the only try of the game.

:15:52.:15:53.

The third and final test takes place next Saturday.
