The former Conservative Prime Minister, Sir John Major, | :00:18. | :00:23.
who wants to keep Britain in the EU, has made a scathing attack | :00:24. | :00:27.
on the Leave campaign, branding it fundamentally dishonest. | :00:28. | :00:31.
He said it had been deceitful and that, on the issue | :00:32. | :00:34.
of immigration, it verged on being "squalid". | :00:35. | :00:38.
Boris Johnson has responded for the Leave campaign, | :00:39. | :00:39.
defending the focus on immigration, and claiming the UK's population | :00:40. | :00:42.
could rise to 80 million if not brought under control. | :00:43. | :00:44.
Here's our political correspondent, Chris Mason. | :00:45. | :00:53.
As Prime Minister he was caricatured as grey, even boring. Sir John Major | :00:54. | :01:01.
himself acknowledges he was often understated. Not this morning he | :01:02. | :01:06.
wasn't. Take a look at this. I am angry at the way the British people | :01:07. | :01:12.
are being misled. What they have done now they've begun the campaign | :01:13. | :01:16.
is to feed out to the British people a whole galaxy of inaccurate and | :01:17. | :01:21.
frankly untrue information. I think their campaign is verging on the | :01:22. | :01:25.
squalid. What they have said about leaving is fundamentally dishonest. | :01:26. | :01:28.
I think this is a deceitful campaign. And he wasn't finished. | :01:29. | :01:33.
After the Leave campaign promised the NHS an extra ?100 million a | :01:34. | :01:39.
week, Sir John said those who said that simply couldn't be trusted. | :01:40. | :01:44.
Well, Michael Gove wanted to privatise it. Boris wanted to charge | :01:45. | :01:49.
people for using it and Iain Duncan Smith wanted a social insurance | :01:50. | :01:54.
system. The NHS is about as safe with them as a pet hamster would be | :01:55. | :02:00.
with a python. The former Prime Minister suggested that claims that | :02:01. | :02:04.
Turkey would soon join the EU is misleading. Is it seriously | :02:05. | :02:10.
suggested, as they do, that all 88 million Turks would come here, | :02:11. | :02:13.
apparently for our high ermine mum wage. On the one hand they say are | :02:14. | :02:23.
depressing wages and on the other hand they are not. It is nonsense. | :02:24. | :02:28.
Boris Johnson was uncharacteristically understated | :02:29. | :02:32.
today but defended a Leave poster claiming Turkey would soon be in the | :02:33. | :02:38.
EU. If the poster said that it is Government policy that Turkey at | :02:39. | :02:42.
some stage should join the EU it would be true. Turkey is ginning the | :02:43. | :02:50.
EU, it is not true. It is policy that Turkey's membership should be | :02:51. | :02:54.
accelerated. A direct question to and answer from a fellow Out | :02:55. | :02:58.
campaigner. You would reduce immigration currently from outside | :02:59. | :03:01.
the EU and from inside the EU to tens of thousands? Yes. The stakes | :03:02. | :03:06.
are getting higher, and there's And Chris is here now. Chris, the | :03:07. | :03:08.
stakes are higher than ever now. Quite. Let's be clear. What really | :03:09. | :03:20.
hearts now is the referendum in a couple of weeks rather than ructions | :03:21. | :03:24.
in the Conservative Party. But there's just one thing that's | :03:25. | :03:27.
guaranteed in politics in the next three weeks. And that is whatever | :03:28. | :03:30.
the result, Conservatives are still in Government. Whoever is at that | :03:31. | :03:36.
top table has to deal with a tribe that's been prising itself apart | :03:37. | :03:41.
publicly for months. The expectation if the language is like this now | :03:42. | :03:45.
with two-and-a-half weeks to go, things can only get far more bitter | :03:46. | :03:49.
and that will have consequences. Chris, thank you. | :03:50. | :03:53.
The family of Muhammad Ali say people from all over the world | :03:54. | :03:56.
are invited to his funeral in the boxer's home town | :03:57. | :03:58.
Details of the service were revealed at a news conference in Arizona, | :03:59. | :04:03.
where Ali died yesterday at the age of 74. | :04:04. | :04:06.
David Willis sent this report from Phoenix. | :04:07. | :04:08.

preparations are under way for the final homecoming. | :04:25. | :04:27.
On Friday his body will be driven through the streets ahead | :04:28. | :04:30.
of a multi-faith memorial service at a local basketball arena. | :04:31. | :04:32.
President Obama tweeted this old photo, with the caption, | :04:33. | :04:42.
The celebration will reflect his devotion to people of all races, | :04:43. | :04:51.
religions and backgrounds. His extraordinary boxing career only | :04:52. | :04:53.
encompassed half of his life. The other half was committed to sharing | :04:54. | :04:57.
a message of piece and inclusion to the world. Following his wishes, his | :04:58. | :05:01.
funeral will reflect those pins polls and be a celebration open to | :05:02. | :05:03.
everyone. President Obama tweeted this | :05:04. | :05:04.
old photo, with the caption, "He shook up the world, | :05:05. | :05:07.
and the world's better for it. Whilst Bill Clinton, | :05:08. | :05:09.
who will deliver a eulogy at Ali's memorial service, | :05:10. | :05:13.

the first time, I thought, you know, we're looking at something | :05:18. | :05:21.
we may never see again. Meanwhile, further details | :05:22. | :05:27.

like no other. Just as people around the world | :05:58. | :06:01.
clustered around their television sets to watch his epic title fights, | :06:02. | :06:03.
so millions will witness his final We can go live now to Louisville, | :06:04. | :06:06.

there, Aleem Maqbool. Yes, we saw those tributes from | :06:23. | :06:36.
world leaders, and from the boxing fraternity, including Larry Holmes, | :06:37. | :06:41.
who famously cried after beating Ali in the early '80s, and from | :06:42. | :06:47.
Hollywood, from the actor Michael J Fox, as Muhammad Ali did for 30 | :06:48. | :06:53.
years, suffered from Parkinson's syndrome. | :06:54. | :06:57.
Before I was diagnosed with Parkinson's, I admired him | :06:58. | :06:58.
and I admired his athleticism, his poise, his class, | :06:59. | :07:01.
his style, his stoicism, his belief in what he felt | :07:02. | :07:03.
was right, and his willingness to accept the consequences | :07:04. | :07:05.
All that was impressive, and then to have actually met him | :07:06. | :07:09.
and joined with him in a common cause, a common fight... | :07:10. | :07:12.
Who else would you want in your corner? | :07:13. | :07:20.
And that funeral for Muhammad Ali will be held in an arena a few | :07:21. | :07:27.
blocks from here in the centre of Louisville. It will be led by an | :07:28. | :07:33.
Imam. Some say it is a testament to the man that even though he was a | :07:34. | :07:40.
Muslim and a funeral will be led by an Imam, there'll be prayers said | :07:41. | :07:43.
across the country in churches today. Aleem, thank you. | :07:44. | :07:47.

Tennis, and Andy Murray will make sporting history today | :08:17. | :08:24.
when he appears in the final of the French Open at Roland Garros | :08:25. | :08:28.
to take on the world number one, Novak Djokovic. | :08:29. | :08:30.
He's the first British man to reach this stage of the competition | :08:31. | :08:33.
since Bunny Austin, almost 80 years ago. | :08:34. | :08:34.
Our sports correspondent, Andy Swiss, is in Paris for us. | :08:35. | :08:39.
Well, it's certainly not going to be easy. I suppose the good news for | :08:40. | :08:50.
Andy Murray is that he is playing the best clay court tennis of his | :08:51. | :08:55.
career. He was superb in the semifinals here when he beat the | :08:56. | :09:01.
defending champion, Stan Wawrinka. Only three weeks ago he beat Novak | :09:02. | :09:05.
Djokovic in the final of the Italian open. But Djokovic is the world | :09:06. | :09:09.
number one, the top seed. This is the only Grand Slam title he has | :09:10. | :09:13.
never won, so he is desperate to win this. But Murray knows that if he | :09:14. | :09:19.
can win here today he'll be the first British man to win the French | :09:20. | :09:23.
Open title since Fred Perry way back in 1935. He has made history before. | :09:24. | :09:29.
Can he do it again? We'll find out in about half an hour, when it all | :09:30. | :09:31.
gets under way. You can see more on all of today's | :09:32. | :09:34.
stories on the BBC News Channel. Good afternoon. It was a bit of a | :09:35. | :09:56.
slow start today for some of us, with mist, fog and low cloud. But | :09:57. | :09:59.
pretty much all of that has disappeared and we are into a sunny | :10:00. | :10:03.
afternoon. It is early June, sunshine is strong. It's going to be | :10:04. | :10:08.
a warm afternoon. This is the view from one of our weather watchers in | :10:09. | :10:14.
Shropshire. Blue sky here, but it's not the case for | :10:15. | :10:15. |
