Police are warning that disruption at the Port of Dover could last

They say motorists are currently experiencing delays of up to ten

hours on roads getting to the port, and there are 80 minute waits

Officials are blaming the volume of holiday traffic and stricter

French security checks in the wake of the lorry attack in Nice.

A family holiday abroad is not supposed to start like this.

Hundreds of people were forced to queue for hours for the roads into

Dover port, some had to spend the night inside their cars. There is a

family behind us all asleep in the car. The guy opposite has got out,

stretched his legs and he has gone back in and got his head down.

Yesterday tailbacks from Dover stretched all the way back to

Folkestone, the 820 and the A2 into Dover were gridlocked.

Holiday-makers waiting to reach the port suffered in the heat. The

situation is easing today, the travellers are being subjected to a

weight to reach border security. The Port of Dover says there are six

security lanes in operation today. Yesterday there were just three. The

doubling of capacity appears to have eased to traffic congestion around

the town. The Dover MP says the situation open the last few days has

been intolerable. I think there is a real issue that

when you get chaos at the border, as pointer gets so bad that they

literally end the checks altogether and wave them through, which is the

worst of all possible -- worlds. We want the national security big

threats to be a Tait, it seems to be common sense. Earlier, police A20

woke holiday-makers sleeping in their cars, asking them to move on.
